Very informative. One use of the present tense I encounter constantly is the historical present. I'm studying French primarily to read academic studies of French history (biographies of queens, kings, writers, etc.) Such narratives generally employ the historical present, whereas history texts in English may only occasionally utilize the present (to give the narration added vividness). I've also ordered Le Petit Robert in order to read definitions in French, thereby speeding up the learning process. Thanks again for your inspiring videos. 👍

Hi! First of all thank you for the lession, I'm learning french for some time but I've been living in Switzerland for 1 month so, I must tryhard it ahah. When you ask "depuis quand est-ce que vous etes maries?", if the answer is "Ça fait un annee qui nous sommes maries" it is ok right? Only the "l'annee derniere" is wrong because it's refering the year before, so answering "since last year" instead of "we're married for one year" or similar. Would the first answer with ça fait be "valid" also, even if we do not use depuis?

L'année dernière is not wrong, but in this case, it would be used in the past in French compared to the present in the past structure.

Hi Dylane, one stupid question. When we say “in Canada”, we use Au Canada. When we say “in France”, we use en France. How do we distinguish? Is it because of the gender of the country? Thanks a lot......

In Google translator when I am typing ça fait verb for expressing my staying years in Canada, then from un to sept the translator is showing, "I have been living" But from huit the translator is showing "I have lived" For example "ça fait sept ans que j'habite au Canada" is translated as "I've been living in Canada for seven years" whereas "ça fait huit ans que j'habite au Canada" is translated as "I've lived in Canada for eight years" I can't understand why it is happening ? Will be much obliged if you can explain it mam
