Whoever owns the boat ramp ( private or city) should be responsible for keeping the ramp clean. Or anybody that uses the ramp could keep a rake, broom in their truck to clean it when they need it for themselves.

I've gotten into arguments with the park rangers at my local ramp. It is county owned and there is a fee to park. Ramp is 9 out of 10 times full of crap, why am I paying? I ask them where the money is going and why they can't grab a broom. At the end of the day, I'm paying their salary.

With open diffs, applying a light brake while giving some gas can sometime help give traction to all the tires. A bigger tow vehicle usually helps. Maybe some rubber traction mats should be on his list. This tidel steep ramp that get algea growth really need better mantainance.

Deflate your tyres or get a long rope and tow from the top of the ramp, or get a front tow hitch or, God forbid, a proper 4x4! 😁

Deflating the tires works in sand, not pavement.
@Nick_G7IZR

@@robertheinkel6225 It helps on all surfaces as there is more surface area to the tyre when deflated. It might not work as well as on sand, but every little helps

I was going say the same thing. If he deflated to 15 psi and put it low he could crawl out but it seems like nobody knows what low gear is for, or that low-pressure = more grip.

@@robertheinkel6225if that were true rock crawlers wouldn't need bead locker rims to keep the tires on at 8 psi

Every time he takes the boat out, He should switch to rock crawler wheels, and balloon tires, then switch back in the staging area of the parking lot.

I've gotten stuck at the ramp a few times years ago before I had a 4wd truck. I unhook the winch from the boat then run it forward and tie-off to a cleat/pile. I then use the winch to help pull everything up and out. Takes a bit of time when you're by yourself having to run back and forth, but it's always gotten me out.

How does that work if you're alone? Do you put the vehicle in neutral? I can't visualize this.
@marcseclecticstuff9497
@marcseclecticstuff9497 6 месяцев назад
@@peterbretherton3546 It happened several times when I was by myself. I had a '79 Ford F150 with a broken leaf spring and a bad rod knock I used to pull a 1972 Caravelle Stingray 17' runabout. I think I had a issue once or twice with my 24' Bayliner, but never alone. If alone, I'd get up the ramp as far as I could then put it in park. Jump out, run back and connect the winch to a cleat in this case, then start winching it forward with as much pressure as I thought it would take (3/16" steel cable). Then jump back in the truck, put it in gear and try again, typically only gaining an inch or two. Rinse/repeat a dozen times maybe. It usually didn't take that much to get it 'over the hump'. It was a lot easier when there was somebody to drive the truck as you could just crank it up and out. I have a 30' Doral I yank around now with a Chevy 2500HD 4wd and haven't had an issue (it's a very long, steep ramp). I now keep about 30' of 3/8" chain in the truck just in case I have an issue but I've never needed it.

@@peterbretherton3546 I was fortunate to have had parents that taught all of us kids to be self-reliant. It's served me well over the years, I can fix just about anything because of it. I also try to be prepared for things going wrong, especially when out on a boat. I carry tools, spare parts, manuals, etc. at all times. Only had to get towed off the water 1 time when the lower unit Chernobyled, and that was by my sister in her boat. I've had fuel pumps fail, belts let go, hoses blow out, ignition systems fail, even had a battery explode (that will wake you up!). Always had enough tools and supplies onboard to finish my vacation and make it back to the ramp.

I've seen it for years. Front drivers attempting to pull a boat out of the water with most of the weight off the drive wheels. Most of the time they line up several people on the front bumper, jumping up and down!😆

The groves in the ramp should be going horizontal or at least 45 degrees across the ramp. Our ramp at San Diego Shelter Island gets a lot of slime at very low tide. But, the grooves going across rather than down the ramp help a lot. Oh and AWD with good tires helps too. If your tires are worn with little tread, old an hard, or just crap tires…you aren’t going to get traction.

@@korndawggy1801 It's a different structural strength, but yeah, should be strong enough. Being it's long though does present possible problems with rigidity which could result in a twisting of the frame. The larger the boar, the stronger the frame. Why are the grooves cut parallel to the slope? Newport oregon ramp is much steeper with grooves perpendicular, no one ever gets stuck, even with much bigger boats.
