That is not true. Me and a friend regularly get kill assists intentionally (for special/daily tasks) by having the person that needs the assist crit the target and the second one finish him. That gives the assist to the person that initially crit the target about 90% of the time but sometimes it gives the kill to the person that only crit the target, I don't know why. The only thing I can say for certain is if the target is not already considered dead, whoever kills the pilot gets the kill. So (this is speculation) if a pilot dies to damage from fire that would give the kill to the player that started the fire. For those curious if the target is already considered dead, even if they are landed, killing the pilot gets you a kill assist. Also for the sake of completeness, you can also get an assist for just hitting an enemy if they die very soon after you get the hit. It should also be noted you may not get a kill assist if too much time passes after you crit an enemy. For hits the time they expire is very short, maybe 10 seconds or so, crits last substantially longer at least a minute or two.

Very long. Over a year if you don't play diehard. Premium time is cheaper if you play regularly but a rank 7 premium is faster to grind if you know how to play rank 7. Depending on which nation I suggest a rank 3 or 4 premium rather than higher because they can grind out until rank 4/5 with 100% but from my experience they still gain enough RP for rank 6.
