He is a top 3 pitcher and hitter, how does that not make him the best? Is Maholmes a top 3 QB and LB?

I actually disagree a little here, Ohtani has already won two MVP awards and has finished 4th in Cy Young voting. Just his inability to have the same workout, focus, and preparation as all other qualified starting pitchers on all teams, while generating 4 or 5 times the physical effort throughout the year is a pretty deep handicap. I think he's pretty far ahead of any other baseball players when you consider he's hitting from a farther tee. It's not to say there aren't pitchers that couldn't play everyday or everyday players that could pick up 20-30 starts on the mound, but none of them are actually doing it at the moment.

@razkable Sure, but he's not retiring from pitching, he's recovering from elbow surgery. Most pitchers in that same situation aren't traveling with the team and hitting in the 2-hole. He's playing and rehabbing simultaneously. Not just playing, he's 3rd in hitting, 2nd in HRs, 1st in total bases. I'm a Royals fan, so it's whatever, but it's hard for me to pick another player and think they are just "better" than Ohtani at baseball.

I disagree. For a number of years people argued Peyton or Aaron Rogers as the best QB in the NFL, the same time Brady was in his prime performing.

I think Brady was only truly the best QB in one year (2007), and he still wasn't the best player in the league (that would have been the receiver he was throwing the ball to).

Not too sure about right now, But Simmons probably was for awhile there.

@@happycanayjian1582 when someone says he's "clearly" the best I disagree with, I see him, Mackinnon and Kucherov as 1A,B and C. All 3 are on a different level when you see them on the ice. They all have certain strengths and weaknesses, for example McDavid is the best offensive player in the game, but Mackinnon ain't far behind and he's better defensively so I call it a wash.
