Whoever constructed the obstacle obviously made it for taller people that could kick off from the start. But the total lack of teamwork after the first failure was probably the most disturbing. Any half way sensible leader would have spotted the problem and had the tallest ones give the shortest ones a boost to get across and the short ones wait to catch the tall ones if they are not able to make it under their own steam, have the middle people carry the guns so they have someone to boost and someone to catch and finally hook together a couple of rifle straps to use as a lasso to extend the reach of the catchers for the last one across. That was not only comical it was depressing.
