He seems like very genuine nice guy, I remember hearing about his court accusation one time, he really doesn't feel like the type of guy to be a creep, people should be ashamed of themselves for spreading lies about people like him.
To think that Lawler would've been a convicted murderer had the criminal not been smart enough to puncture his tires before smashing his windshield...XD
@jonathanwilliams2183bruh he literally said he tried but the tires were slashed that’s vehicular Homicide he probably would’ve gotten away with it then but ppl like me and you today oh yea we would be facing prison time
Once upon a time, in the 1970s, then-AWA World Champ Nick Bockwinkle was SHOT BY A GRANDMA shortly after getting in the ring for a match. Luckily, the bullet hit his championship belt that he still had on at that moment, and it acted as body armor and saved his life. True story.
People said that was fake. Fans never attacked the wrestlers. Why wouldn't they attack the wrestlers? People attack actors all the time for roles. People are nuts.
I can listen to these stories all day. So awesome to get to peek behind the curtain & get more info from past events or matches with certain wrestlers.
Back then wrestling was always in character now things are more open, what happens on screen is half of what we see, really love hering these stories from these legends
piper got stabbed in the chest, one inch from his heart. he cut a great promo the next day, little white bandage on the wound. if that isn't the worst, then it has to be what happened to a montreal wrestler named bob "legs" langevin back in the 40's or 50's. a woman stabbed him from behind, upwards, in the crotch. had to be castrated. he was 19. still went on to have a pretty good career. he gave an interview 3 weeks before his death at 93yrs old, & said that his sex life was finished the moment he was hit.
That was before they knew about blood borne diseases really. But there's at least one story of a guy (I want to say Piper?) getting stabbed with a knife that had pig blood on it and it...had an effect.
Jerry Lawler was in the room and said it was true when David Schultz told a story at his Cauliflower Alley Club induction in 2019 about a guy pulling a gun on Lawler and Schultz took the gun away from the guy.
Was at a house show in the Tacoma dome in 1997. Bret Hart came down the isle and a fan threw a full beer close range on him. Bret pointed at him and out of nowhere 2 huge security guys grabbed the guy and threw him over the rail. They dragged him (he didn’t walk back)to the back and no telling what they did to him after that
The level of fan interaction in pro wrestling is amazing. You don’t see this with any real sport. Not even close. And that I think is one of the reasons people love wrestling so much. But with the good comes the bad, the idiots that take it way to serious. But I love the ways the wrestlers deal with unruly fans. And why shouldn’t they? These people are literally threatening their livelihoods. If someone tried to handicap me on a job site I’d go ballistic too.
Whether you love them or you hate them i.e. Jeff Jarrett or Lawler, you have to admit, they tell fantastic stories from the territories. I would love to sit down and pick their brains apart with tons of questions about memphis wrestling and NWA/WCW etc with Dutch Mantell.
One night we were doing a show at a National Guard armory in Arab, Alabama. Some drunk mark came over the rail after Dangerous Mr. Hyde, our heel manager. Long, LONG-time fans may recall Hyde as "Referee Jimmy Taylor" from the Gulas days. Anyway, this guy comes over the rail and tackles Hyde. He's on top of Hyde trying to punch him, when suddenly the heel door bursts open and RPM Alan Martin comes out at a rate of speed I didn't think he had in him. Alan sprints over there and kicks the drunk in the face like he's trying to kick a field goal. The guy's head snapped back absolutely as far as it would go, and he was done being violent for the evening.
Sportatorium, Dallas Texas circa 1983. Saw Michael P.S. Hayes of 'The Fabulous Freebirds' get attacked by the short, skinny, foul-mouthed man behind my stepdad and I. I'm eight-years-old at the time. Dude was yelling, cussing, going bananas at the heels the whole time. Stepdad and I couldn't believe how belligerent the guy was but we got a small kick out of his antics. Michael Hayes was in a match against one of the Von Erichs and, in classic heel fashion, left the ring when he thought his opponent and the ref were getting the better of him. Michael strutted right down the isle next to my stepdad and I. Crazy dude lunged and Michael grabbed him by his thigh and armpit, threw him, head over heels, into an empty section of metal folding chairs like a pillow, knocking them down like bowling pins, without missing a beat and returned to the ring. Cops swarmed crazy dude like bees and his lady screamed like a banshee. Never saw crazy dude again. Michael wasn't even one of the physically imposing guys but he was gorilla strong. I'll never forget that!
A wrestling fan since I was a kid, Dallas born and raised. Hearing stories like this from before my time is always amazing. I can only imagine the wrestling history from this city.
Saw Terry Gordy Knock the Hell out Cold a Hillbilly one night in PorterDale Georgia, the guy was as big as Gordy but didn't even get a chance to do anything before he was flat out Cold , with a big fist full of chewing tobacco hanging out of his mouth , they were leaving after wrestling that night and the guy approached them in the concession ticket lobby on the way out ,
Is there anybody who has heat w/ Jimmy Hart? I have to believe everyone loves that cat. Out of or In character Jimmy is one of the true icons of Wrestling and I'd be quite surprised to find he weighs more than 160 lbs. soaking wet.
The Cleveland Arena riot was an epic night of chaos -- when baby face turned heel (and NWF co-owner/trainer/head writer) Johnny Powers enlisted Ox Baker to heart punch heel turned baby face Ernie Ladd into a shaking, trembling mess.
People who attack wrestlers are dumb....alot of those wrestlers can leave you in a coma till your death. Anyone reading this, please don't let their profession fool you. Let's just say They're trained killers without the official certification.
It was great to see the guys arrive at the site, "kill each other" in matches and then after fans had cleared, get in same car together to head for the next town. I also had a Jaguar with personalized plates that began with RSB and having fans (mostly girls), waiting because they thought it was Ricky Steamboat's. 😅😅
It’s so fooking sad what we don’t live in a time where we’re allowed to take people out the back and give them a kick in... these were glory days of life
I used to go to the shows that Maple leaf gardens in Toronto. But I always get stuck next to a idiot fan at ringside who decides to take a steel chair try to hit a wrestler misses and nails me with it so as far as I'm concerned the best and the safest seat in the house is in front of my TV
damn... i'm from montreal, & yes, you're lucky! dino was a beast. i'm sure volkov was no slouch, but dino had a hot temper & fast hands the size of cinder blocks.
i pushed arn anderson once when I was 12 and he almost fell over. he grabbed the dude next to me and threatened him. after he let him go a police officer grabbed me. he actually saw what happened. i was terrified and apologized and he let me go. i was thinking they were going to take me to the back and beat me up.
DDP used to be a heel manager in the AWA,think it was late 80's. One show, Page was causing havoc, running around the outside of the ring when POW! some fan put him on his ass with a sucker punch to the face. Page played it off,but it was a serious shot,an actual assault. From what I remember the cops got the guy since they were already in the crowd. The footage exists on those old AWA shows between 1986-91 or so that ESPN used to run late night. Wouldn't need a reenactment since DDP actually got rocked.
god i miss when wrasslin' was "REAL". sometimes i think i'm the only person that lets themselves fully buy in to kayfabe. i just enjoy it all so much more when i do.
Does anybody know where I can find Jim Cornette telling the story about Junkyard Dog being blind and the fan coming over to him with a gun telling him he had his back?
I remember at a awa matches in Minneapolis Minnesota . it was a king Kong Brody match a lady threw a cup at him and ran pass my family , and the cops were chasing the both of them and one cop got the pepper spray and went to spray the lady and got me too , my dad was so mad help the cops catch the lady and pick me up and took me to the bathroom to wash my eyes out , while he was doing that Verne Gagne and Wally Karbo and a sports doctor came in too check me out . 😢😅❤
now i knew the reason why Hogan hates the small wrestlers, because big guys can really tear you apart, bringing the wrestling as an intimidating reputation.
Producers made a amazing concept but forgot The Real OG " Jim Cornette " , He is a must to be part of these type of old school discussion ... i cant believe he is not here
I punched Jimmy in the gut at The Anaheim Convention center when he was leaving the ring with Moondog Spot. Some guy behind us threw a beer on him and they took that guy down hard.
Nah, why would you as an actor beat up your fans in the back room for? The fans bought into your heel acting. You’re responsible for getting them all riled up.
