At Warren Pond in southern Maine there is a small little well that looks like that. No idea how old it is, but the area has these massive stone cliffs in the woods and huge boulders around. Every time I go there I feel there must have been some serious Native American and Settler history there that is now gone. It’s a great spot.
I wonder if you tag each find with a GPS location so that a report can be printed out showing clusters of finds? I bet that your local college's archeology department would love that!

It refers to the metal alloy of copper and zinc with some added metals for color like lead, tin , arsenic. It has a higher copper content. Seen it spelled tombac.
More evidence of the year with no summer... people fled for temp improvement. No worries, no where to flee towards with next calorie shortfall. Except where there are less people... in New Hampshire !
