I'll never forget meeting my ex-wife's Dad for the first time. She warned me he liked to scare her boyfriends at some point, so I was waiting for it. At one point he wants me to go out to his garage with him. He starts showing me all of his gun collection. Instead of shaking in my boots, I get all excited and start asking him questions. When he sees that isn't working, he shows me a "human skull" that he keeps. At this point, I look at it quietly for a few seconds, letting him enjoy his moment and then I say: "So, was this somebody you know? Or did you just buy it from somebody?" He kind of hangs his head and says: "I bought it from the flea market." For the record, I saw it was plastic and too well made, so had no doubt it was fake. After that, he thinks I'm the coolest guy in the world. He's trying to give me some of his guns. Every time we hang out, he brought out the good Scotch and would tell me about the good old days. And I would just go along with his wild stories and act like I was as hardcore as a dude could get. When my ex and I split, I figured he would hate my guts. But was cracked up to learn that years later, he was telling her new husband that he was a loser, even though the guy makes way more money than me. And the he wished his daughter would have stayed with me because I was a real man who knew how to take care of his family. At least I had one fan!

I remember being in a similar situation. A girl invited me to her place and I was under the assumption that it was fine with her parents. Her younger sister was there, and warned me that she's not allowed to bring guys home uninvited. I thought we'd be having dinner with the parents, guess not. I confronted her, and then I heard a car engine and the gate opening. Her father was home. She told me to hide, but I didn't. I went straight out to him, greeted him, explained to him what impression I was under and asked him if I could leave and come back another day to properly meet and visit. He asked me to stay, gave me a beer, we talked a bit and then he sent me on my way. Never talked to the girl again, pretty sure she got an earful after I went home.

The key to getting along with your girlfriend's dad is talking about WWII, Van Halen (old Van Halen), and Grilling. Every one of my ex's dads loved me...if only my exes did too.

Sometimes you just have to stand up for yourself. I called my first girlfriends dad an asshole to his face for talking about my brother behind our backs. And broke up with the girl. He said that was the first time someone has stood up to him like that.

My ex’s dad is similar, but not to this level. He was always a douche, but would say things in between the douchery that gave me insights to his daughter’s personality. After a few years with her things went to sh*t pretty hard. Looking back on it I realize the things he told me were warnings. Especially the statements comparing her personality to her mother’s.

This episode is a total food-for-thought. -why did she want to bring him home? -what kind of guys she brought before, to worry her brother? -is she really trying to piss her father? -does she really like him, or is just another toy for her? -why get him involved in something he certainly doesn't want to? -Why the father had make it even worse for Sebastian? Also, considering how the big goon that punched his stomach looks, either is the eldest son, or someone who is too deep that want to take control of the operation when the current boss can't. Who knows if he does not want the gf for himself just to be officially part of the family.

To be honest, one of better possible solution might be to come clear with everybody. Considering she knew her father was a psyho and still decided to bring him home, she might as well just emotionally torturing both man. Confronting her technically won't brake an agrament, (making somebody angry is not equal to breaking her heart) Also lots of professional man like her father, respect honor, truth and strength. Still situation is dire.

When I told my bf about some of the protective thing my dad had done for me from my past boyfriends, rather than being scared off by it, he just agreed and said, “Yeah, that’s completely understandable. I totally agree with that.” Lol 😂

I thought meeting my gfs dad would be something like this, obviously less extreme but you get the idea. A big reason why i thought that is because hes a cop, so is the mom, infact alot of her family are a bunch of cops and veterans, her brother was in the army. another reason is because im 18 and this is my first relationship so I have no past experience of meeting gf's parents, so i just thought it would be like how i seen it in the movies, where the dad is a hardass. The dad is incredibly chill and we talked about random things, the mom is super nice and generous, always offering food and to drive us places, the brother is also nice. The best part is she said her family loves me.
