I used to have two Siamese cats - brother and sister - and they got lonely during the day. They were usually fine but if we got home later than 6 p m they'd unroll all the toilet paper and shred it to show their displeasure!

They should have activities where they can meet other cats

No kidding, cats can understand human languages and try to mimic them to communicate with their human family members! You keep talking to them, their talking will become clearer in time to come, like babies first learn to talk. 😊

♥️ My cat does that too! At my age I've had 15 cats and she's the first one who "speaks English." When I tell her I have something for her, she says "for ME?" When I say, "you're a good girl," she says "I am!" My mother, at whose feet random cats would run up out of nowhere and throw themselves, had a whole code worked out with her own: when Smudge asked for something, usually food or to go outside, Mama would pretend to misunderstand and go through a list of what Smudge might want, to each item of which Smudge would just yowl until Mama finally named it. THEN Smudge would say, "Urrr!" from her diaphragm. I borrowed Mama's trick for my cats; it worked with some of them better than with others. Mine who agrees that she's a good cat had only one yowl for any desire, but after six years it's become somewhat more nuanced, so she'll get there just about the time we both die. 😂😹 🪦
