That's Nyango Starr, a Japanese mascot of a prefecture known for it's apples. Nyango helps to keep his town from dying by attracting tourism to his area. The apple-cat character has a back story, if I recall... it's the spirit of a dead cat reincarnated as an apple. When the cat had died, it was buried under the owner's apple tree. Nyango has a scar from when he fell off the tree. According to the story, he's on some kind of mission to become famous with his drumming in order to get his owner to recognize that he's his beloved cat. Hope I got most of that right 🤷🏻♀️ . So, he's an apple-cat hybrid. He still has his white cat fur on his belly, as well as his whiskers and cat ears...😺
@@warlord_drums 😄 Japanese mascot culture appears to be a serious thing. Their personas are accepted by the people and it's a no no to allude to the human behind the mascot. It's usually us foreigners who are super curious trying to find out who it is. 🤔😊
The name is also quite clever... Nyango Starr is obviously a play on Ringo Starr, and "ringo" means apple in Japanese. "Nyan" is the noise that Japanese people say cats make (like in English we say they go "meow").

The author, owner and performer of this character does this as his full-time job. He's anonimous though. The whole point is to let the character have it, make it real.

I'm Japanese and I desperately enjoyed ur reaction.Some Nyango Star's performance include collaboration videos with professional Japanese metal rock bands. This is a video of drums being played at an event for children. His playing is not really suitable for children, and some children seem to have stopped enjoying it halfway through.😅

Great video! First time seeing the apple cat drummer, late to the show. Quick question looking at getting the Roland Electronic V-Drums Kit, have you played them? And if so, do prefer the yamaha and why? None of my drummer mates play electric or have, and due to space restrictions, and neighbours looking to change up. Oh and we are, we're, we are the Leeds!😁
Thanks my dude. Ahhh The Apple Cat Drummer! Now I know it's name. Roland are sick dude, I would definitely recommend them. I have just always used the Yamaha DTX series because I have felt comfortable with it. I think the Roland e-Drums have more features with the sound and backing tracks etc however. The Yamaha DTX PRO series (which I use) are definitely awesome however. I would say go to a drum store and play them both to see which you find more comfortable. Leeds fans are always welcome here mate don't worry. If it is drum related, pull up a chair, we are mates. Hope you can stick round for my next reaction video!
@@warlord_drums Thanks for getting back to me , great explanation, good to hear your reasoning. Yeah, the sound module that comes with Roland kits look sick, easy for recording and overlaying tracks as well as backing tracks. Yorkshire born and breed but living in the hills of Wales, so it might be a little while until I get back to civilisation and anywhere near a place that stocks either of the kits. I was hoping to just order on-line, but you are right should try before I buy. Used to go see Sheff United and Wednesday on and off when they played at home, I like a good football match, affiliations aside. NyangoStar is ichichara, not a person in a suit NyangoStar almost falls off the throne when NyangoStar slows down on the kick pedal. NyangoStar is either a metal drummer who is jazzy, or a jazz drummer who is metal.
Uh, yeah, there's plenty of women in Japan who can absolutely hammer the drums with the best of the best. Not sure if Nyango Star is Nao Kumamoto but whomever it is, they're incredibly talented just like she is.
