When You're Really Hungry and in a Rage 

My Brother found a baby fox squirrel and hand raised it while I was away in the Army. It was like a cat, it came and went out of a cat door, my mom kept a bed box for him in the house. He was lovable and playful. Even liked to cuddle up and sleep in your lap at night while you watched TV. He finally started staying away at night for longer and longer periods. We think he finally found a mate and reverted to being wild. It was a great experience to share time with him. Being around him, I’ve never seen him get really mad. But I’ve never seen him deal with another squirrel either. I guess it’s why I enjoy your videos so much. Growing up we had a flying squirrel named Peeper who was very tame. A female raccoon named Baby, who stayed with us for 3 and a half years. She finally went her way and would return to visit every so often, usually with her litter to get a free meal. We hand raised four opossums from tiny kits, and released them into a state forest. We rescued a baby beaver and took it to a local vet who turned it over to a zoo. I recently rescued a large soft shell turtle and took it to our local zoo. ( it was in the road, and might I add, damn they have really long necks!) I’ve had pet birds, snakes and of course dogs and cats. My favorite animal we had has to be the Fox squirrel he was soooo smart. We called him Boxie. I went to college in Florida, and one time on campus I saw five or six squirrels attack a girl with an armful of books (the girl had the books, not the squirrels). I've never looked at squirrels the same way since.

Ohhhh, graham crackers!!!!!!!! I never thought of that! Thank you for the idea! Mine are gray squirrels, and were destroying my little cheap bird feeder, so I threw in the white towel and now I just feed everybody on the ground in 5-6 areas. Multiple dogs (retired, racing Greyhounds of my own and countless fosters) for the last 20 years so no grass at all now, but all the dogs have passed on to T-bones in the sky, so using the bare ground as a dinner table, I began feeding in one area, but find I get more of God's amazing, clever creatures if I spread the joy, so now I spread the bird seed, wildlife food and special treats among 5-6 different areas right on the ground. I start watching them and then realize hours have gone by and I've gotten nothing done in the house. My squirrels scolded me quite loudly for any blend of food with dried corn. They hated it, and so did the larger birds: even blue jays turned their beaks up at it and the chipmunks, blind as they are - they find food by smell, ignored it completely. So now I make my own 'blend' and everyone seems happy. "My" squirrels don't squabble or fight over food, but perhaps that is because it isn't nice and tidy in a protective box. I think you are so clever and have such a big heart. And can I also just say, the 'theme' music sends this 60+ woman into giggles and peels of laughter all the time. I truly enjoy you sharing your 'back yard clan' with us.

I have a blowgun for this very reason. If I saw some aggressive bully squirrel like that, I'd just take him out. And feeding them is only enabling these nuisance animals.

One has to wonder if, when dealing with an animal that's hoarding a mound of food, any animals had the bright (Machiavellian) idea of deliberately attracting other animals, possibly including a predator, to said mound of food that's being hoarded in the hopes that the animal that's hoarding the food would become so distracted by all the other animals that it'd be easy to land a sneak attack when that animal's back is turned, or going in for the attack after the animal has already fended off the other animals, thus is in a weakened state.

I wonder where you and your squirrels live? None of our eastern gray squirrels have those reddish tails and the red squirrels in the western part of our state are much smaller and red all over. With 268 squirrel species there are lot of choices.
