Neko Chan playing the basic notes of Twinkle Twinkle doesn’t magically translate to playing something much more complex and expressive. If you can play a beautiful, elaborate rendition of Twinkle Twinkle, you can play this, not because it’s fundamentally the same, but because you can play complex music expressively. If this were true, anyone who could play a full scale could play any piece of music in that key. Bullshit.

Audrey Lin It is not like reading Chinese or Japanese. The hard bit in reading music for me is the Italian speed bits. Then again I have been playing since Year 2 and it is different to everyone.
@jasonreed1352
@jasonreed1352 6 лет назад
Italian speed bits? Interesting issue. This was one area that I didn't find too difficult. To me, learning the terminology made me think it unfair that Italian students had an advantage as learners of music notation. Quite indicative of how "learning" music, for me, has been a painstaking process of wishing I had just put the effort and time in from day 1 of my learning instead of NEEDING to understand how so many parts of the process were actually necessary. After all, I didn't need to understand biology and physics to learn how to sing. I think I'm learning the importance of starting again since I deviated from the learning plan as soon as I began professional instruction. I can't bring myself to advocate for the blind following of teachers, nor can I advocate for the use of more forceful insistence on teachers to not allow the free-thinking of their students. Drill sargent style music teaching is narcissistic and serves to inflate the perception of the teacher (a product of doing what you love for a living, in my opinion). If that is how this lovely little girl learned how to play like that it explains why she is not crying her eyes out while she plays. If she is a prodigy I am even more interested in learning about her. Holy shit, even with these two guys interrupting her she captivated me. (By the way, the two guys are not too bad themselves. Sight reading something like that requires a little more than zero talent.) This video and its commentary may have been a catalyst for me following my passion once more. Thank you, little girl and you two "talentless" musicians.

When you're a teenager and your were so happy that you were able to do a simple do re mi with a violin. Then suddenly you got destroyed by an Asian kid that is younger than you.... *Self esteem dropped by 99%*

Susan the best piano player yeah definitely, I think partly because with violin there’s only 1 line, rather than 2 lines of music you have to read at the same time

I'm sorry but what does sightreading mean? I don't play violin.

@@zack1634 its when you get a sheet of music you haven't seen before and you try to play it without looking at it properly beforehand

true story: I was forced to study a Wieniawski concerto by a teacher I hated in college. I hated the concerto even more (all show and no substance). Struggling to make some kind of connection, I commented in a lesson that I liked a melody in the 2nd movement. The teacher's reply was that he stole that from another composer.

Same here, but I'm a freshman in high school studying Concerto No 2 in D Minor. It's SOOO Hard.

Would you be willing to specify (A) which Wieniawski, and (B) which concertante work to which you're referring? As far as I know, I possess a copy of every recorded concertante work by both Henryk and Józef Wieniawski. Was this by one of them, or another by this famous musical family? I think I only have in my pretty large collection recordings of music by those two, but I do know that other members of the family were also composers. Anyway, if it was a concertante work by one of those two brothers, which piece was it? Was it a violin concerto? A piano concerto? A cello concerto? Though I don't rate either of the two Wieniawski's of whom I have heard works among my favourite composers, I will have to say I've heard not a single piece that I'd consider even close to "no substance". I like hearing other people's opinions and would like to revisit the work to which you're referring to see if I can get a handle on why you'd consider it to be "all show and no substance".

This girl is perfectly prepared for the concert and plays it without using scores. You gentlemen, you play him avista. And you are so great.
