He is probably the longest serving member for Mikael... and he is not even Swedish ! If you would like to get to know something about Fredrik , the lead guitar player , I recommend this video (though it is a bit guitar-nerdy) ... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CsvIciZmD38.html I also like the moments when Swedish people talk with each other in English... there is something to that ...
Being from Argentina, Uruguay´s neighbour, I can tell you that all the uruguayans I met are really chill and calm people. Didn´t know until this video that Martin López was born in Sweden, lived in Uruguay as a child and teen and then return to Sweden.
"The beast from Montevideo" - Mikael Åkerfeldt. You need to watch Mikael's stand up show haha One of the greatest is the one before Demon of the Fall from the Roundhouse Tapes DVD
Read about how Mikael and Peter fired Johan de Farfella, the original bassist of the first 2 albums. (He wasn't the first, because Opeth wasn't Mikael's band initially or none of the founders actually remained in the band, that's a whole another different story). The after Johan was fired and the drummer (who was the childhood best friend of Mikael & of Brazilian descent) didn't come back to Sweden after going on a visit to Brazil, they put up an ad for a new drummer and bassist. Martin Lopez & Martin Mendez saw those adverts in music stores, torn all the ads and went for audition themselves. Mikael & Peter instantly liked the exoticness in their groove but were worried about hiring them, as both of them were good friends, and Mikael thought this might lead to faction formation in future between the 2 potential groups. Eventually, theye were hired and the rest is history. Btw, if you listen to the first 2 albums, Johan plays bass in it and Anders Nordin played drums. Johan played a cool fretless bass (he had influences outside metal as well). You can listen the distinctive bass. In fact he wanted to take the band in his creative direction which led to his firing. Interestingly, he is a conservative politician nowadays in Swedish political scene🤣
If I'm not mistaken Anders just left the band when they fired Johan. Johan and Anders were good friends too just like Martin and Martin. What's mystery is what happened to Anders. No one knows. There are some rumors going around that he went back to Brazil to find his true parents after the first 2 albums. But no news about him now. Damn Johan's playing is ahead of it's time. Jesus the Bass on Orchid and especially Morningrise are Chef's kiss. He would've done really well on BWP, Ghost Reveries and Still life if he played the bass there.
I do believe Martin would rather be called by his given name as most of us would . One look at him & Martin Lopez you can tell they are not Swedish , at this time with Lopez on drums it 's easy to tell Mikael & Peter were .
I know it's not Opet related but this video just adds more proof as to why you call Jay, Jay "Awesome Sauce" Weinberg ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-deUsdeezXWk.html
😄 You seem so confused that a bassplayer can be so chill while talking. That seems a bit odd to me. Why wouldn't hè be chill? Just a human being like you, like me like anyone. With that difference that he can play bass a lot better than me and you(?)....
@@floridabelle Hey, How are you, big time Opethian? Ever heard of an English band named 'Sylosis'? I recommend them to you because I think you would love them. Old Sylosis has got a couple of very atmospheric albums ('Conclusion of an Age' and 'Edge of the World). I just wanted to let you know. They are along with Opeth my personal favourites. When you decide to try and listen, enjoy 👍🤘
@@markblaauw4961 Hey Mark. 👋 I've heard of them, but never listened. I'll give them a try, probably tomorrow. Thanks much for the suggestion. P.S. Did you see Mikael's upload here today on youtube? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q0gWU-aOX4U.html
