@@bana-nice Death is the loss of someone's active presence in the world. In the author's terms, it means their character arc is cut short and they can no longer interact with other characters. To many people, it's difficult and one may wish to avoid it, to think "They never died," but if you ignore their death, ignore the fact they've passed, you also ignore their presence in life. To deny their passing is to deny their existence.
Having been in a community performance of it . . the script and the story aren't brilliant. But the performances can really lift it up and make it an enormously fun show - as seen in this example above!
I like the attention to detail in the ancestors' motions, behaviors and even parts of their instrumental introduction. It's not as readily noticeable for the pilgrim and the saloon girl, at least not on the musical side, but starting with the conquistador the musical cues seem to become a bit more defined and associated with different ancestors. For the conquistador there's a consistent rattling noise almost like a ratchet to go with his spinning motions, almost like clockwork. As the lamenting bride approaches, the drums in the percussion take on the beat of the opening trumpet chords of the "Wedding March"; the soldier has a more defined tone and rigid melody and percussion, which is shared by the next ancestor (from the looks of it, the nurse). The flapper naturally has a 20's-sounding riff to match her dancing, and the Native American and caveman have an emphasis on the drums in their portions, followed by the fluttering of the wind instruments in the last ancestor's showy dance moves. It's little things like that that add to the atmosphere, love little touches like this.
I know this is old and I know this is so small but the ancestor in the bustle I believe came from the late 1700s instead of the 1800s. And the nurse is actually a 50s/60s flight attendant!
Dj Hendricks I'm pretty sure it's not a tribute. She's just wearing braids. If that means anyone wearing braids could be a Wednesday Addams tribute. Its just a Native American ancestor
Maeve i only came to that conclusion because it's more than just the braids, it's the design of the dress, the placement of the feather, that type of stuff that mirrors movie Wednesday pretty well
It's always those little touches that makes me love productions so much, be it theater or film. I especially love how their interactions differ with each ancestor, like how Morticia does a curtsy to one and how Gomez and her gossip (?) when it was the bride ancestor (I'm assuming she was left in the altar). :))
Oh my gods..you have no idea how much I adore you for putting this up! I will never be able to see the full production, all I have are videos kind people like you put up so thank you from the bottom of my Addams heart..you rock :)
I know this show wasn't any kind of monster smash but I'm not sure I can think of a more perfect casting job with Nathan and Bebe in the history of the theatre....

I was in this show at my local theatre and I was obsessed. I love all things spooky and this was just one of my favorite shows I’ve ever done. Move towards the Darkness and Crazier than You will forever remain two of my favorite musical theatre songs ever
Just seen the show on a school trip with my daughter on the 14th -- I haven't laughed sooo much!! The kids got to do a workshop with the ancestor cast earlier in the day & learned the routine & song. it was an awesome day!!!
I’m doing Addams family this year ( As Morticia ) and I’m realising how different the scripting is to our version lol. Also side note, covid just hit Melbourne hard so our show has been postponed 😔
My least favorite thing about this show was the lack of a good villain. The plot is cute and all, but it's very cheesy. The movies were good because it juxtaposed the sweet but macabre Addams family with evil humans that were somehow far more insidious than they were. The wedding thing should have been a b plot.
I mouthed the whole thing, I’ve heard it so many times I might as well play Gomez. I’m a girl though. I’m also in a production of The Addams Family, playing Alice, which is why I’ve heard it so many times... help.
saw it in Buenos Aires back in 2013 and was stunning about its production. However now I get the smartness on every single lyric, the costumes and dancing referring the series (the clapping fingers and twist back from the 60s) and the movie, bout the clan the dancing parties at Addams graveyard and house, all was a kind of honoring
Thank you for this! I want very much to see the original cast performance, but it doesn’t seem to be available on any home video format yet. Am I mistaken?
I was in this show in high school I was a hippie anchestor all the other girls had pretty dresses or cute shirts and I had to wear pants I hated it at first but then I got really used to it and having fun with it
This is what my school is doing for the musical this year but because the ensemble is 20 people with only 2 boys meaning i got put as one of the girl's playing a guy. I'm the spanish conquistador (the one with the real fluffy pants) and might have to borrow a few dance moves
I doubt many will see this, and it is possible that not many have seen the 1998 adaption of The Addams Family but does anyone think that the very last ancestor could be Cousin Vlad?
Hypnotoad except i cant find an obc recording anywhere.. there was one posted here but i didnt have time to watch then the same day it was taken out lol
@@l.7282 hello! This is the chicago preview (it's split in parts but you can find the rest in the channel) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fwEmMyxviDM.html Tho this version doesn't have this song at the beggining, instead one called "Clandango" I believe. But there is a boot with the "When You Are an Addams" song, if I find it I'll share the link
honestly this musical is trash but that "Family first and family last" piece at the end is so good. this show has several blips that are really inspired, like One Normal Night. The rest? eh. haha
