Rob Knoops was born in Belgium and has studied at the Belgium universities of Hasselt and Leuven. Now he works for CERN, the European Centre for Nuclear Research, where thousands of scientists from all over the world collaborate to answer some of nature's most fundamental questions. Knoops is a theoretical physicist fascinated by the strange ways nature behaves when you zoom in on very closely on it to the quantum level. He is part of theoretical physicists, whose main tools are chalk and blackboards to try to understand nature by using logic and mathematics.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I'm writing a piece on the quantum physics and I'm doing a lot of research about this subject, and what strikes me is how difficult it is to explain something that we simply can't get our mind around. I have even more respect now for people like Einstein that knew how to write something down and explain it so that people would understand it, even though he was talking about things nobody ever thought of before. If you are bored and want to stay busy, try explaining to people what Quantum physics are to us and how we can use it in real life. I bet you never get an end to the conversation that follows.

'They' feel there are ten dimensions, because the mathematics which explain string theory only work in a universe which has ten dimensions. The strings themselves are vibrating strings of energy, and the rate of their vibration is what makes gold gold, and silver silver. Just as the vibration of wind at a specific frequency gives Middle C.

"The universe seems to be expanding." I have suggested that string theory with the infinite nature hypothesis implies supersymmetry exists in nature, the universe is expanding, and dark-matter-compensation-constant = 0. However, consider the following Seven Sagacities of String Theory with the Finite Nature Hypothesis: (1) There is a profound synergy between string theory with the infinite nature hypothesis and string theory with the finite nature hypothesis. (2) Milgrom is the Kepler of contemporary cosmology - on the basis of overwhelming empirical evidence (implying dark-matter-compensation-constant = (3.9±.5) * 10^-5). (3) The Koide formula is essential for understanding the foundations of physics. (4) Lestone's theory of virtual cross sections is essential for understanding the foundations of physics. (5) The idea of Fernández-Rañada and Tiemblo-Ramos that atomic time is different from astronomical time is correct. (6) There is genius in the ideas of Riofrio, Sanejouand, and Pipino concerning the hypothesis that the speed of light in a perfect vacuum steadily decreases as our universe ages. (7) Quantum information reduces to Fredkin-Wolfram information, which is controlled by Wolfram's cosmological automaton in a mathematical structure isomorphic to a 72-dimensional, holographic, digital computer.

Great presentation Dr. R Knoops⭐️you are correct⭐️Dimensions are a realm of existence that is distinctly different from another - by combining the Dimensional distinction, this allows us to put together the building blocks of the atomic structure which creates our material Universe. In other words, secrets of existence are created by combined curved Dimensional states⭐️

This concept is addresed in Indian spiritual talks. It's said as in Marathi, ' जे पिंडी ते ब्रह्मांडी!' It means literally, "There is everything same in smallest thing and the same is in universe." So both way are right to explore deep inside our outside. Micro as well as macro. Everything which is born at time of big-bang is having that all memory of how it happened & followed still the 1st ever axis is formed after big-bang. In Indian spirtual literature, it is said that 1st space is formed, 2nd energy, 3rd gas, 4th liquid finally 5th solids. And combinations of all these five formed the living & life supporting system. And this will end reversing from 6th to 1st state. This is said & written by some enlightened minds some thousand years back. We say them as 'त्रिकाल दर्शी' means, 'Who knows past, present & future. You are right, we should accept that the only language of universe is mathematics. Mathematicians still finding new alphabets, numbers, signs, constants, and developing grammer of this oldest and most developing language of universe. Mathematicians are path finders, to whom all science faculty follows and achieve development.

I have been toying with an idea that might help explain what we can not see at this time. Unexplained gaps in our understanding of our universe. It began with thoughts about elements, molecules and perhaps even the forces that govern them. We have only begun to print molecules and create designer chemicals which is where I began my thoughts. I was concerned about the unseen and what consequences there might be tapping into these technologies with so much information missing. It occurred to me that just as we suspect the existence of other dimensions to be real even though we cannot see them. Perhaps some of the information is buried or exists in other dimensions. Take a water molecule, two basic elements - hydrogen and oxygen (H2O). We know that oxygen exists as we have experimentally proven its traits and properties. We look at molecular models so we might visualize its appearance. What if some of those attributes we have trouble explaining are because we lack both physical and visual information that exists in another dimension. Visualize a water molecule and then heat it to the point that the two elements separate. What causes them to separate? Heat? Or an invisible reaction from the parts of the elements that exist outside our detectable universe that are triggered by heat. Just as we suspect that their is more to ourselves than what we know. How do we know there are not extending components of elements and molecules that exist outside our known universe and extend into another dimension that has vastly different parameters. Food for thought. You can extend this notion into the idea of natural forces as well as they may be a byproduct of another dimension or visa versa. For every push their is a pull. PHIL GIBSON

Basically string theory is just one of ten to the power of 100 theories that can unite all particles using some kind of a concept. String theory uses a concept of strong in 10-11 dimensions. But one can use just something like there is nothing than just a space and space itself has little fluctuations and still find such a theory that explains everything. And it will be more appropriate from the point of view of Occams principle - don’t introduce more concepts than a minimum you need.

I believe that String Theory is losing its supporters, thelack of any means of making testable predictions has not helped but I think the killer blow came from the failure of the LHC to detect a single Supersymmetrical Particle ( an important component of String Theory ) Faith in a concept , irrespective of the beauty in the Maths, can only sustain endeavour for a certain amount of time, proof and Peer-reviewd evidence are vital but sadly lacking here.. P.S- I think the thing about "extra dimensions" is highly suspect, too- np better, to all intents and purposes than invoking a deity.

Very prominent spiritualists have stated there are 10,000 dimensions- which they have experienced themselves... so i think the 10 which are hypothesised will slowly change into 10,000 as more and more discoveries are made. Alternatively; scientists could look into spiritual methods of attaining knowledge and shorten the learning curve. People centuries ago had made these discoveries but didn't know how to express them....

+Jo Reven My thinking is that Time comes first as a zero dimension (like the framework to which spatial dimensions "rotate" out of) Then all other dimensions exist with a common origin point. We draw an X & Y as intersecting perpendicular lines and then add a diagonal line to represent the third. Keep adding an axis to show more dimensions but the framework that connects it all is ... TIME! Instead of us existing as three dimensions with Time being the fourth, imagine that the dimension of time exists WITHIN every dimension. Like zero exists within the number Ten (10). Some mathematicians think that Zero is the largest number, when you consider the negative numbers added together equal Zero (-1 + 1 = 0). Perhaps at the center of a black hole where mass becomes infinitely dense, gravity collapses into Zero and allows a rotation of dimensional locality aligning into a different dimension. (instead of X, Y & Z, perhaps a third dimensional object could "shift" into a "W", Y & Z dimension)

Rolled up? Those ants crawling around the dimensions we know, are just like barnacles on a ship. They're still part of the dimensions we know. Unknown dimensions must be different than either space or time,; those are accounted for. Instead of trying to baffle us with mumbo-jumbo, how about labeling those theoretical-math values so we know what the numbers represent? Science relies on measurements, but those measurements represent something. What exactly is that something?

Hmm well I think what makes it so strange if I understand the Universe, and I don't, is this: Everything, is moving away from everything. There is no direction but 'out' and 'away'. Each galaxy is moving away, and out from every other galaxy. Indeed, mind blown. That's what makes it so hard to grasp. Because we imagine those galaxies eventually bumbing into some other galaxy. But everything is expanding and, for a cherry on top, it's accelerating. How can this be? Why? It makes us question the 'shape' of our universe, if it has one, and if it has a shape, could our universe be floating in a soup of universes all bobbing along together in a larger structure we haven't named?

This was a few years back.. i bet the theory has been developed further by now. I wonder if the theorists have considered parallel dimensions...

I have an idea .. maybe because In our 3d world we represent the 4th dimension in 2 side by side 3d drawing's, I so maybe it's less exponential and more fractional... Think dimension 3.1... IdeA!

String theorists will never reach an answer because they are essentially asking, why did the programmer make the program that way? The obvious answer to that is because that's the way they wanted it to work. Instead, hack the program, Star Trek style.

Thinking about why the universe is expanding at an accelerating rate. Perhaps it is because as it expands and all the galaxies become further and further part, the force of gravity pulling them back together is progressively diminished resulting in the continually accelerated expansion. It seems logical and does away with the need to invent dark matter as you suggest in this talk.

Oh, Rob Knoops, we should meet. You can teach me about what you see and I can tell you what I see. Now after we get that out of the way we can take care of the Hearing problem in this country. I'll tell you what I hear, and you can tell me what you hear,... after we come to an agreement on things we move on to Touch... I won't touch you and you won't touch me, unless otherwise specified, eg as in a Hand Shake,... however I study Kung Fu and prefer the "umong the 4 oceans, we are all brothers" version better than a hand shake and it has nothing to do with anything short of what it represents lol...etc... back to topic.. after we cover all that, the next thing I'd say is.. lets get some good food and relax, shoot some billiards and continue discussing life. We're so caught up in trying to find out why were here that we actually miss the answer. We're here to experience.

Educated? Perhaps, but anyone can come up with a theory about something that there is no way to test. If it can't be tested who can say if it is right or wrong. It's nothing but a theory. We have 3 dimensions plus time. He first says we need 10 dimensions and then theorizes an infinite number of dimensions. If people like him are getting paid to "theorize" make them at least theorize something that can be tested before giving him a paycheck! I would love to get paid to make up theories. I already have many I can sell. I have some "real good" real estate to sell too!

if nature of space, time and direction is relative. then ¿where is the clear idea of dimensions? comonly persived one :V...!! i always suspected that fisics is no really studing the reallity it self. it is studing what and how reality affect us as coexitencial common part of been that we share a very big basic states. the kind of really out side reality will allway be there not depending necesary what we can percept whit 5 ssence and not depend what we just like to interpretation os stuff happening mean math is a kind of true idea of reflexion stuff from auside of we know as dimension that we are stik 100% in relevance. and reality in the integryti of outside our influence should be very tiny part not with so much paradox. fisic is just about the result of the relevance of any thing to us. no the whos happening thing. no mather how hard fisics try the cant much up with same armony as matematiciasn with geometry agebra etc etc. becouse se only look the reflexion of out side from inside tangeble own body perspective and the part of the perseption can be always logics , cant be alway explained just with his own resouse. the bigest limits part cant match good as less limit parts of one.

its rubber bands not strings. yeah the connection isnt veiwable from our dememsion and everything is connected by these stretchable rubber bands. like gravity.
