I show you where to pan for gold in Iowa. Gold panning yields flour gold in this area. Glacial gold can be found in the South Skunk River Area of Jasper County.

I worked at a rock quarry ones that did mainly river rock and sand, wed run into coal alot so i gotthe beight idea of asking ever found gold, i was told there is just aont enough to mine for it here in iowa, meaning not enough to make a profit

Me and my buddy went here a few weeks back. We found some very small specks. I had two in my pan and some super fine stuff almost unrecoverable. This was actually my first time panning. Im hooked. Thanks!!! Going to hit up your other suggested spots at some point. Fun little hobby.

I was surprised to see this so close to our farm. Very cool that you can find it there, I have tried a few times but without proper equipment and found nothing. Skunk river as far as I know is named for the skunk weed that grows on the banks. Take your chances being open on the weekends because that's when the lead gets deposited.

Ah good video Matt, And for all those that don't reveal their spots like myself. A lot of time and research goes into finding that one great location. There is a lot of gold on the skunk and there are a few locations that I am going to look at in the near future.

Have you tried at yellow banks in desmoines .it was named that because of the gold found on the banks back in the 1800s

Skunk River is the actual name! There are plenty of skunks in the area, maybe that's where it's derived from? Anyway, thank you for watching! Hope you're finding lots of Swiss gold!

@@midwestmidasmining Yeah, I assumed, there must be lots of Skunks to give this name. I've never seen a Skunk in real yet, we don't have them here. Thank you, yeah there is some pretty nice gold to find here in Switzerland. But currently we had lots of thunderstorms and flood, so it's very difficult. We wanted to go prospecting in Alaska again (I was five times in AK and I loved it), but Europeans are unfortunately still under the US travel ban. Anyway, hope you find lots of Gold in the Skunk river too :). Was nice chatting with you.

@@midwestmidasmining I guess Alaska is a bit closer to you than Switzerland but not that much 😃. I really can highly recommend both to visit as a gold prospector. If you are interested, you'll find videos from both Alaska and Switzerland on my channel. And I'm fascinated by the Midwest, because I don't know nothing about it yet. Would love to visit your area as well sometime.

@@TheLensSchwendi Our gold in the midwest is much smaller and more sparse than Alaskan gold. Still, fun to prospect. I will definitely check out your channel!
