There is also a old cobalt mine in fredericktown and the tailings are still there, recently a mining company came and checked it out and asked alot of land owners if they could check minerals on there property but pretty much all of them said no
Got to love good ole missoura. So thankful this is my home state. My niece Rachel and I have learned so much from your videos. We cant wait to send some pictures of our recent discovery.
Love watching all your videos and the history of different states that contains the original origins of gold ore bodies. I generally prospect in the state of Ohio and southward. Thanks jess
I just found this. Missouri actually has a lot of potential for gold. Most people don't realize but Missouri a few million years ago was very volcanic. There was a massive lava lake that went from West Central over to St Louis then up to about Chicago. In the late 40s my granddad drilled wells and the assay always had trace gold in the west Central area. In the mid to late 1800s there was several gold and silver mines that opened also in the same area.
There are many small claims in this region, which I currently live in. Lead is the primary mineral mined in the region, second is copper. The lead and zinc are primarily found in deep dolomite beds. Doe run mining company has a very large network of mines and claims in the region. Many of the unknown mines I would say are former workings from back in the day. Pre 1920. Many lost to time and growth. Many tales of lost silver mines from the Spanish and copper from settlers. Thanks for this video, I am curious about prospecting in the region and your video has been a great help
I grew up in the Missouri ozarks, and a couple of points. That area where you were looking at the silver mines along the river and talking about the tilted structures is Silver Mines Recreation Area managed by the MO dept of conservation. And the reason a lot of stuff doesn’t have dates is because it was done by the French prior to the Louisiana Purchase.
is it volcanic? did it wash down the meramec? that comes from a very specific location way up the courtois creek. it gives you and everyone in the meramec watershed plenty of radon.
Madison County Missouri here I want to pan for gold. The silvermines are about 6 miles from my house thats where the Koch Shaft is. I was told the gold is very deep here though and it wasnt worth digging but I have my doubts.
Thanks so much. Live in missouri, south east and found weird rock I found out was called serpentine and went back when I found out what it was and found three large handfuls of a solid bright yellow soft rock that looks glittery in the sun but there's so much quartz everywhere I'm not sure it's real gold. I don't know but I'm gonna find out. We have have several floods this spring and I live on a dead end gravel road with three branches of creeks on our 2500 acre property. These floods washed this stuff in. However I know exactly where the huge artesian well that is the mouth of the creek. Thank you thank you
Btw just because it's underground does not mean it lode. And with Missouri being a cave state. You have more of a chance finding underground placer gold then lode gold. Another place someone should look is in the hills southeast of Edgar Springs. It's all private owned. But, I know those hills have a lot of tells if gold. And no one has looked. Because it's always been farm land. At the time I didn't know what I was looking at.
Two areas I know of. Missouri river, flour gold. Iron county, pickers. However. In Iron county the areas are on private land. Silver also Iron county on private land. Rumor from the late 1800s by a St Louis newspaper. The county Fredericktown is in had gold. But I think the gold in the last. Was stolen union during the civil war gold melted down. It's not hard making gold into nuggets. Just use the old way of making shotgun shot.
My friend and I found a good flake in Marie's county after my grandfather told me this story. Sure enough we went and found it but unfortunately it's private property so I haven't went back since there are new owners.
that would be whacky! but you must know all the mountains around it are are actual stratovolcanoes (that sank back into the ground because they were so dense - no kidding)
Tungsten, Zinc, Lead, Silver, Copper, Arsenic and more are all associated to some degree with Gold chemically. Now the question is; does the source ore contain enough gold to recover?
Jesuit Core of engineers have dammed all the mines up lake of the Ozarks Truman lake and every lake in Missouri mines flooded to hide to be saved for later
