I got my supply of Good Morning towels by chance in Hong Kong at a clothing shop, and it came in a ream of 12 towels joined together as a single piece. They were not pre-cut, so I had to use scissors to cut them into 12 equal pieces. These are still with me, and greet me every morning!

It's popular in the Philippines too, I have some of those since they're very cheap and everywhere. It is mostly associated with laborers and blue-collar workers.

From Indonesia here, I believe the last time I owned a "good morning" towel was +40 years ago. In my hometown, Pontianak, this type of towel is provided for guests at the funeral home or funeral site, maybe that's why individuals or households stopped buying it for personal use.

I think what's more surprising is that - 1. It's still being made in China to the same design after a century. 2. It's likely specifically for the Singapore market, since these towels are obscure in China itself. That second point needs further looking into imo.

many counterfeits get produced here in Malaysia too, I saw MR DiY selling their own versions of these towels, so it could be tough to trace from the original ones and the 'good morning' has become more of a trademark and not a singular product manufactured

There will be contacts who liaise with the shops when the shop owners place orders on the towels. Get the supplier contact phone number and call the supplier who liaise with the shop owners. Then start tracing from there. When i work as a supplier quality engineer, that is how we trace the source. But i doubt we can ever trace where the towel originated from. Once it is started to be made in China, then the manufacturers there can easily copy the print and make towels like this to be distributed within the country and/or worldwide. Since source is unknown, copyright trademark claims will be very difficult from any parties involved.

It was very popular also in the Philippines. I remember having a lot as a kid. Now only a few stores sell them anymore, but I always appreciate it every time I saw it.

These towels are still exist in every south-east Asia countries not only in Singapore Even in my country Malaysia also have them sold at any grocery stores

I actually didn't see it myself but it was used during my parents time. My mum would use them to cover the pillows. Especially my dad's as he used brylcreem, a very greasy hair cream.

My father was a soldier in the Nationalist (KMT) army during the Chinese Civil War in the late 1940s. He very clearly remembers being issued a Good Morning towel which he later gave to a fellow soldier who had his eye shot out..

Another serious problem is - the new ones that I bought is not good, in fact lousy because it is non-absorbent compared to the old towels that I had been using. Apparently the material they used for the new batches is different - water keep dripping from it. Cannot really use it to dry the body. Lousy. Maybe got scammed. Maybe counterfeit ?

Man, I thought we Filipinos were the only ones using these towels. Back in the 90s, a lot of merchants and market vendors (as my parents were also vendors) are using these towels to wipe the sweat in their faces during peak hours of selling. This brand actually became one of the iconic items in the 90s. Wow.

It's not difficult to find out where the towels come from ! Ask the retailers who their suppliers are. If you explain to them your project, you will be able to get at least one or two of them to tell you who the suppliers are. There's probably no sole distributorship for such towels. So, if you can enquire from several of the suppliers the source of the towels, i.e. the exporters from China, at least one will tell you who they are. Write to them. The exporter is probably not the manufacturer as you can only contact the manufacturer if your quantities are huge. I doubt the Singapore is big enough (I may be wrong though). So.... just continue your detective work. You'll find out who the factory owner is. It's possible that there are more than one. That's the case with the Diamond brand Chinese hardware factories or possibly the Aeroplane brand shuttlecock makers.
