Thanks for teaching about Igbo people. I'm a descendant of the Transatlantic slave trade and have very little knowledge of my ancestors. I learned last year, the meaning of the Sankofa symbol which is built into many gates here in the US, and it brought me to tears. My dna test showed so many African nations, but the majority of my DNA is from Nigeria. I'm taking the initiative to learn about my people because our stories didn't start in the US.

I don’t think that’s true , if you say Igbo are Luos then you mean Luos are part of the lost tribe of Israel . That will be incorrect. Luos are Nilotes , Nilotes were part of the kingdom of Kush. Kush was the son of Ham. Just because the name of Igbo starts with O does not mean they are Luos. The Igbo, Luo culture is different, for example Luos never used to circumcise because that was not the culture but Igbo do

I am Congolese by nationality but was raised in Australia. I love learning about Africa. We cannot explain our history better than white people. I know that Igbo people are based in Cameroon, Nigeria, and Equatorial Guinea and that they have similarities with the Madi people of Uganda, Congo, and South Sudan. The African ancestors lived in Israel before the Roman people attacked them. Isreal was part of North East Africa. Our African ancestors will help us write our own stories one day to help our people understand who we are. Viva La Afrique!

@juliakeshy985
@juliakeshy985 4 месяца назад
@@heyniranI do not think the Igbos have any links by blood with the Yorubas. What the Ooni may be trying to say is that some Igbo people used to live in Ile Ife and environs and when some of them left their relatives left behind continued to live in some parts of Yorubaland and their descendants are still there today and are now merged into the Yoruba community. The Ooni has a valid point by insinuating that because one of my friends who hails from the Midwestern Ibo area told me that in some Midwestern Ibo villages some Yoruba settlements were in various towns, their descendants are still in the midwestern Ibo areas today but are now from there today. God bless.

Thank you very much Professor. The people of Ogwashi Uku, otherwise kown as people of Ogwashi are actually from Nri. Ogwashi is a currupted form of Ogwa Nri. A prince of Nri was exiled, and he found his way to the place now called Ogwashi. There the exiled prince and his entourage settled among the Ikerike people who are actually Binis. My grandfather, Ajiduah the High Priest was a blacksmith in Ogwashi. His descendants are mostly technicians and engineers. Maybe this is the connection. Our relatives during the Biafran war assisted in making rockets and other fighting systems, they were able to convert trainer planes to fighter planes and bombers. These are people known to me personally. I have refrained from providing their names because I do not have the permission of their offsprings. Also, some relative helped in refinning crude oil for use in the then Biafra. This may be legacy. God bless you all.

Thanks for this expository. It's almost the same thing my late grandfather told me of our ancestry. The only difference is that he traced my roots to Nri, though I am from Nnewi. Secondly, he told me of the identical cultures we shared with Isreal, before we even knew of the bible, which is Igbo culture. For example, circumcision of the males on the eight day, the City of refuge, incase you killed someone by accident, which was usually the person's mother's village, and that person would be there for some years. This are just a few examples he gave me. Keep up the good work.

Other similarities are: 1). The birth-right bonanza. The first born male takes everything. The rest can go manage themselves! (See the story of Jacob and Esau for comparison in Genesis 25:27-43 and 27:1-40) In the Igbo tradition, the first-born inherits the greater and the best portion of everything, including the family's house and name. He is the head of the family and the one who continues the family's name. The other males become heads of the own families and their first-born(s) inherit them. Anybody with any knowledge of the Old Testament (OT) cannot but marvel at the striking replication. 2). The Igbos give philosophical names to their children. There is no Igbo name without a deep meaning. Just like the OT Israelites, the Igbos use the naming of their children to express their hopes, desires, fears, aspirations, grief etc, or for keeping records, history, etc. 3). Maybe the Igbos are the only other people in the world apart from the two Abrahamic religions, Judaism and Islam, that believe in one God who created everything. The Igbo word for God is "Chineke", meaning God the creator. Wow! There are many more similarities, but these are enough for now. Peace to All. Shalom!

The mistake in the Bible is the story that we came up at once. There were however so many waves of migration into the belly of Africa. @@SankofaPanAfricanSeries I am a Luo of Kenya. Luos are Nilotes who have further been classified as River and Lake Nilotes due to their nature of migration and settlement along the River Nile and at the shores of Lake Victoria. According to oral literature among our people, supported by historical texts, the Igbo and the Nilotes have a common ancestor, Sin Akuru Kuku Lubanga, a contemporary of the Akkadian Empire(in Babylon) before it's collapse during the time of Naram-sin. We are believed to be the "Lost" tribe of Gad who together with Asher, Dan and Naphtali migrated to Kush (present day Sudan and Ethiopia). Sin Akuru was the father of Imbo, Podho, Loiletuk Dhiang', Odongo Bokmoni among others. Podho the father of all Luo's, Odongo Bokmoni the father of the Highland Nilotes and Loiletuk Dhiang' the father of Plain Nilotes. However, Imbo was their half brother who left and went West while the rest went South, following the Nile. Among the Luo's, the direction of West is known as Imbo. It is not known whether the name Imbo evolved over time from Igbo or Imbo evolved in West Africa to become Igbo.

A huge part of Kenyan Luos ancestors were Bantu, meaning were related to West Africans especially South Eastern Nigerians. The luyha are a Bantu group similar to the Luo. Both have Nilotic and Bantu ancestry but one took the Nilotic language while the other kept the Bantu one. See how more "pure" Nilotes like the Dinka are taller, darker, lanker with more specific features and looks way less Bantu/West African oriented than Kenyan Luo

The Iteso say that they descended from Joseph's lineage and migrated southwards via River Nile. The Langi have it in their oral history that they descended from Israel, migrated via Ethiopia onwards to Uganda. That's why today there are some tribes in Ethiopia related to the Langi/Luos ie the Shiluk. Check out the channel Truthunedited. Thanks so much, Mir, for this amazing work. It's so very enlightening. It's so interesting and refreshing to note that the NRI KINGDOM, did not pursue a philosophy of enlarging the kingdom through violent wars of conquest against other neighbouring societies, even though they acquired the technological know how to manufacture weapons that will aid them in that regard. Their philosophy of engaging in peaceful advancement through technology and industry is quite a very noble and egalitarian virtue, and is exactly what our present world needs for peace and prosperity. Little wonder, the IGBOS are people of great industry and entrepreneurship, traceable to their NRI KINGDOM DNA. This work is highly appreciated, dear DR.

The Lady almost got everything correct but for the following three misconceptions: (i) MISCONCEPTION ABOUT IGBO MAP: it is absolute fallacy for the lady or any other to create the impression that Igbos live in South East region of Nigeria. It is a fallacy propagated by Yoruba and Fulani to shrink the geographical spread of Igbos. Do we not have indigenous Ikwerre Igbos, Ndoni Igbos, through Ogba Igbos up to Bonny and Opobo Igbos? (ii) MISCONCEPTION ABOUT THE INFLUENCE OF NRI KINGDOM IN IGBO LAND: Just like Europeans have a misconception about the statelessness of Igbo people, the Lady has a misconceptiob about the extent of the influence of Nri Kingdom in ancient and contemporary Igbo land. The only interaction between Nri Kingdom and other Igbo Kingdoms is by way of the OZO TITLE. That is all!. Just as we have it today, ozo title is voluntary on the person who is interested. Usually those that are interested are rich to afford the life of an ozo titleholder. The Nri influence is therefore limited to the extent a few wealthy people take the Ozo title. The Ozo titleholders are not kings so they have no influence on others whatsoever. The two issues that I pointed out above are importaant to clarify to ensure that readers who do not have any familiarity witrh Igbo land do not end up believing that the Nri Kingdom ran a STATEHOOD in Igbo land. It is incorrect. All kingdoms of Igbo land believe in peace but the peace was not patrolled by Nri Kingdom but the common culture of ostracizing/banishing people that broke cultural norms of a particular kingdom. (iii) MISCONCEPTION ABOUT NRI KINGDOM SHRINKING DUE TO EXPANSION OF BINI KINGDOM: This is a fallacy. I challenge the lady or any other persons to provide proof that Nri Kingdom lost influence or territory to Bini Kingdom. If the lady or any other would not provide such proof, then the lady should not be spreading such fallacy. Again, as I explained in Point (ii) above, the Nri Kingdom's interaction with other Igbo kingdoms/communities was by way of the Ozo titleship. That is all. Therefore Nri kingdom did not lose any influence or territory to Bini Kingdom. Meanwhile, it should be noted that Bini Kingdom did not advance to the East/Igbo land; there were interactions, cultural and otherwise, but Bini Kingdom did not conquer any parts of Igbo land. In contrast, the Bini Kingdom conquered and occupied large parts of Yoruba land till the Islamic invasion of Fulbe/Fulanis and colonial Portugal/Britain invaded Yoruba land.

I believe strongly that Igbos have been in existence before Eri comes. The people were not enlightened to document their story, it is the stranger that is making history for them. Well organised people, it was when their leader died and Oduduwa have joined them to fight their enemy on few occasions that Oracle choose Oduduwa. He became the king and change the history. I believe Eri did the same thing. Oduduwa children are the paramount kings in Yorubaland today. Only few indigenous who are not from Oduduwa dynasty are kings. That is why the kings in Yorubaland were heavily involved in slave trade, till today, they are always at odds with the people. They don't feel ashamed to sell the people because they are not related. See how they trade Nnamdi Kanu for Jeeps. If the real history can be learned through some oracle or traditional way Ok, but if we have to depend on inputs from any of the invaders, we will never know the truth.

I am a Luo of Kenya. There are similarities I've come to learn from this video though. The Igbo, just like their Nilotic brothers who settled along the Nile settled along river Niger. I also notice that the hat worn by Igbo chiefs is similar to that worn by Luo chiefs, with the only difference being the material used to make them. We use beads in stead. 😂 keep fooling yourself. The archeological findings in igbo isn’t up to 2000 years. You need to read history and research before making assertions. Soon you’ll say igbo is 1 million years. Or maybe 500 thousand years 😂. Go do research about what was found in nri and other places you’ll see iam correct. Everyone just wakes up and quote figures

yes. the most slavery in the world occurred in Igbo land, they were captured the most because of how strong they are. the white man almost sold the entire Igbo land to slavery to America because they were the strongest hard-working people and can endure any hardship. they were sold for highest price. during the slavery the white man would walk about on the lined-up of slaves brought into USA saying "oyibo" and if any slave respond, then they will bring the person out of the line and sell them for highest price. the Igbo slaves build this country USA. remember the Igbo landing in Atlanta Georgia? Thats why sometimes our African Americans will speak Igbonics

Clem Onukwube, thanks for your post. I don't think 🤔 that the Igbos were the the first people to welcome the missionaries in their land. Remember Bishop Adjai Crowther? Remember also that the first Europeans did not get to Igbo land by road. I believe that the Igbos may have given them (1st Europeans) a grand 🤗😁 welcome more than all the initial points they've stopped. Remember that Mungo Park had sailed the River Niger to Onitsha, probably the first European to do that. I'm just saying that the early Europeans (English people) had interactions along the way before meeting the Igbos. I stand to be corrected if my thesis doesn't work.

True,the entity called Nigeria is enormously blessed but we (the people) tend to focus on materialism without ,obeying spiritual principles and values.we chose lies ,laziness and superstitions thereby making us a backward society.Today our history seem to be distorted by those who expliot it to their advantage. We should from the likes of Chinese and Japanese who held on to principles(discipline,dedication and hardwork)to not only build their nations but are also helping in shaping the contemporary world.

I do not understand why a lot of Africans want to claim non-African origins. This phenomenon is all over Africa. What just happened in this video is to remove Igbo bronze and other arts from Africa. We Igbos don't see it that way the brain used in those technologies was done in Africa but we have belief that migration took place and we have links to Isreal. Today we are proudly Africas. It is like saying that Humanity started from Africa and spread the world so indirectly white people originated from Africa but today they are not known as Africans but Europeans. So Igbos and their technology is credited to Africa and not Isreal.

@@RealityStand, make up your mind. The founder of your tribe was a white jew, right? And the city where the technology was found is named after him, no? We can safely say the technology is middle eastern-influenced. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Could the light skin tone in your tribe come from the white jew who founded your tribe? I think so. Any genetic study supporting your white jew origin? " It is like saying that Humanity started from Africa '' Not the same thing. People that left Africa evolved into other races and evolved genetically. That was around 200 000 yrs ago. Jews are younger than 4000 years old. The white Jewish paternal lineage that gave rise to the Igbos ought to be very common in your tribe.

Nri influence did not cover the whole of Igboland their influence was majorly in Northern Igboland.In South and Eastern Igboland the Aros dominated those areas.
@uzzyvick
@uzzyvick Год назад
You got it wrong. The Aros and indeed, the entire Igbos were all subjects of the Nri kingdom. Nri's influence appears diminished in some Igbo areas because they don't carry out military intervention or force their subjects to pay tributes. Nevertheless, they have strong spiritual and cultural hold on the entire Igbo land. For one, the initiation of every cultural and social activities in most villages, like the coronation of kings, the announcement and adoption of calenders, the cleansing of the land and so many cultural practices that are uniquely Igbo, are all entirely, predicated on or are preceded by the announcement of the Eze Nri', without whose authority the activities can not happen. Even the Aros acknowledges their sacredness and their authority not just, by the fact that only the Nri indigens, the Oka's and of course, the entire indigens of the Aro nation state themselves, are exempt from being traded in slavery in the olden days, but also, I believe, by the that none of their neighbours or any other Igbo groups for that matter, are able to prosecute wars against them without retribution from other Igbo groups. So, whereas, the Aro influence is renowned for justice, the Nri's are recognized for their spiritual authority and ancient influence all over the Igboland, Aro nations inclusive. And like the Nri, the Aro's influence in Igbo land was similarly, not propagated through warfare but through the exception of justice, Nevertheless, their influence is much more diminished and are still subject to the Nri's influence which is why they are still an integral part of the Igboland despite their close proximity to an obviously strong militant neighbouring Efik kingdom.
