For all those who say Aonuma "doesn't care about the timeline" the fact he's outright aknowledging continuity within the Downfall Timeline prooves he does.
@@LinktheCommunistWaifu Pretty sure not much considering it's a "classic Zelda" type game meaning it'll probably stick to the conventions of the series with a simple gameplay-focused story to appease oldschool fans who've been thirsty for oldschool Zelda since A Link between Worlds in 2013. All that said i'm not complaining since we're finally getting non Breath of the Wild-related Zelda (at last!).
My best bet is that it takes place before LBW. I have a feeling that these rifts is what keeps Hyrule and Lorule separated and it sets up how Ganon reached Yuga.
We’re forgetting that ganon has a double ended trident which is only seen in the wind fishes nightmare boss fight, to have a nightmare of such a version of him would imply that it’s happened previously. I think it’s a prequel to Links Awakening.
@@gaiapurpure nah It just cus they already have most of the objects and world already from LiAw so they just used it It's only a 2d game so i doubt they went all out on a new artstyle and direction
Nintendo: ''Uhm, it takes place...you see there was this split timeline or, uhm something, and eh, you know. right after the Zora became the uhm Koroks? yeah, there...''
Zelda fans: "Oh come on! It's not that hard - the Zora become the Rito - the *Kokiri* become the Koroks. That said, this still doesn't help us pin down when in the timeline this happens...wait - are you saying there's yet *another* timeline where the Zora become the Koroks instead of the Rito?"
And then some how the zora just rematerialize themselves back in to existence out of thin air even though they became the rito and went extinct In wind waker. Still have no clue how this is soposed to make sense unless they either retconed wind waker to be no longer cannon or that the rito we see in the new game are not related to the zora which would mean the wild Era games are not in the adult timeline.
@@Gigi4u It could be that the Zora in Hyrule turned into the Rito, but the Zora elswhere outside of Hyrule proper went "Oh! This is amazing how much water there is!".
Wdym, THIS is the game that rejoins the timelines and the rifts are the timelines joining back together. That’s why it looks like the river and ocean Zora are arguing, one of them is a new species to that world. This also explains the appearance of Deku scrubs and the Deku Tree. (I’m sorry I was yapping)
As a direct sequel to Triforce heroes, it would be weird because it would imply that Ganon somehow got resurrected shortly after Yuga, who just lost after merging with Ganon, and Zelda somehow managed to get captured again.
As Swaggmasta pointed out in the short those "portals" might be connected to A Link between Worlds somehow meaning it's possible either Yuga himself or some other villain from Lorule or even another dimension had something to do with Ganon's sudden resurrection.
In zelda II, ganon resurrects during the game over screen and that game has the same link as zelda I, so it's possible for him return within a single lifetime.
Common misconception, but I get why it’s confusing. River Zoras have green skin, are somewhat stout, have prominent orange fins on their heads, no head-tail and can fire balls of electricity. They’ve usually only been seen in inland bodies of water like swamps and rivers. The other species of Zora (I think called Sea Zora) are generally slender, have head-tails, fin-like structures on their arms and waists, and have much more diversity in skin color. The Sea Zora can live anywhere where’s there’s a large body of water.
twilight princess has sea zoras tho (sorta, because the only ones actually living in the ocean are the ones from the oracles and majora's mask, but you get it, they're not green monsters xD) and the only games with both river and zora races are the oracles
They do appear in the child timeline in Four Sword Adventures. But that game is a huge outlier, as it has far more connections to the downfall timeline, anyway. The map is very similar to A Link to the Past, has several recurring dungeons and bosses from that game, has the same layout for Kakariko village, and sees Link travel to the Dark World frequently. And it also has the Seven Maidens just like A Link to the Past, instead of the Seven Sages.
Nobody said link wasn’t going to be playable They just overly said Zelda is playable Pretty sure unless they just say the intro is a cutscene we are watching someone play as link right there
@@user-cw1pd2hr6t Here's the thing - game where "Zelda is playable, but Link is also playable the same game" includes Hyrule Warriors, Age of Calamity, and Cadence of Hyrule.
The square spirals look more Twili than Zonai. I think it takes place in the Child Timeline after Twilight Princess. The land inside the purple rifts also appears similar to the Twilight Realm, being made up mostly of floating islands.
I'm guessing ALttP prequel because there's basically no Hyrulian infrastructure to speak of in the ALttP map shot we get in the opening cutscene (Link's house, Lake Hylia Shop, Kakariko). It's mostly untouched wilderness outside of the castle walls.
I’d say it’s possible that that’s an alternate ending to either A Link to the Past or A Link Between Worlds. He may be wearing it as a cloak/hood, but it’s possible it. It’s simply just Roc’s Cape which has been shown to have blue elements.
@@zachtwilightwindwaker596 Four Swords happened before the rift between timelines created by OOT Link, so it's a bit weird to say that something is not exclusive to another when the concept of multiple timelines didn't exist at that moment
Maybe the ganon battle is something that we have already seen but modified to not make it obvious, also hyrule looks like the transition between OOT and LTTP
Is it though? Link's house isn't shown at the other side of the "river" in front of the castle and the entire layout seems far too enhanced and improved to be the exact same Hyrule from either of the 2 Triforce of the Gods games. I'm fairly certain this is a brand _new_ princess Zelda from a new Era either after A Link between Worlds or even after Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.
It’s def that Hyrule, but reimagined. I don’t mind it other than Death Mountain being on the left. If they reversed them, it would make a lot more sense to me

Just because we didn't see doesn't mean there not there similar to tp they could've been banished for a certain period of time and ate just recently welcomed back.
Gerudo are in BotW and TotK though and those are most closely linked to the DT (even though they’re probably a few dozen of thousands of years after Zelda 2) Also OoT is canon to the DT, so that’s irrelevant anyway since it means Gerudo can exist in any timeline
This couldn't take place after the oracle games, because the subplot is that koume and kotake are trying to summon a deceased Ganon, which is semi successful but he gets put back in the ground by Link. This would make more sense before oracle but after worlds
Okay but hear me out here: it could also (maybe?) take place during the oracle games as at the beginning of them Link just ends up in the middle of a field and is rescued by either Nayru or Din. This rift incident could be what led to Link ending up there as if I remember correctly, the Oracle games don’t take place in Hyrule. In the end, we’ll need to wait until the game comes out for any final decisions regarding its placement in the timeline though.
Business Scrubs are also in the Child Timeline, they were introduced in Majora's Mask. River Zoras also appear in Four Swords Adventures, which takes place in the Child Timeline. There's enough evidence for it to be in either the Downfall OR Child Timeline right now, and the square spiral pattern on Link's equipment seems to imply a connection to the Twili. But putting all of that aside, they could always introduce existing characters, races, and monsters into branches of the timeline they haven't been seen in yet.
I think it takes place in an alternate timeline to Link's Awakening, and the beginning of the game is a slightly altered version of the final battle in the Oracle games.
Signaled by the similar looking map. I Think after all of link to the past link’s adventures outside of hyrule, he comes back and is informed about Zelda’s capture, goes to save Zelda and then the first part of the trailer happens
If it takes place after the oracle games, and is the same link and zelda, then this link and zelda are killing it with a grand total of FIVE GAMES which is insane (and hilarious)
You forgot to mention that Link in the trailer is using silver arrows, which only appears in a Link to the past and The Legend of Zelda (First Game in the series), which are both from the downfall timeline.
What if this is Zelda’s perspective during/after links awakening? It would make sense showing in the trailer a sea of this shadow goop, kind of like a vast sea that link sails after the game (I know he sailed before the start of the game too, but maybe his consciousness decided he was sailing instead of sinking in shadow) it still falls in the same timeline
you forgot to mention how you can see the cave that leads to the pound of happiness in a link to the past and death mountain from that same game as well and that weird rock field est of hyrule castle
I'm thinking it has to be either after the Oracles or after Tri Force Heroes. The presence of Deku Scrubs, River Zora, Lake Zora, and Gerudo are shared only with the Oracles and Four Swords Adventures, and the linked ending shows Ganon regain his rationality at his defeat, suggesting he may be sentient again in his next canonical appearance. This could explain why he understands his Trident's abilities once more and, if this game ends with his sealing, it could lead into A Link Between Worlds, in which Ganon is already sealed and Yuga is ignorant of the Trident's abilities. Given the more recent releases of ALBW and TFH, though, I would expect the game more likely follows them rather than the Oracles.
Worth noting: Link's house is nowhere to be seen in the image showing Zelda overlooking Hyrule Castle's main entrance which, as seen in both A Link to the Past and A Link between Worlds, has Link's house right in front of it with only a thin river seperating the two locations appart. This detail hints at this been a sequel to A Link between Worlds as it wouldn't make sense for Link's house to be in front of the castle one moment, then relocate elsewhere in Echoes of Wisdom and magically relocate back into its original place by the events of A Link between Worlds.
Something I just thought of: You know how Yuga fused with Ganon in Link Between Worlds? What if when we defeated Yuganon, we only actually beat Yuga, but Ganon survived and we have to beat him now in Echoes of Wisdom!
I think it takes place during links awakening The art style but its because link fell into the windfish's nightmare And zelda got freed but at the cost of having to get link out of the rift before he wakes up so she has to close up the rifts before link brutes himself out of the void😅
I think maybe having some things be textured and some being flat colors might be a good middle ground between having everything textured and having all that warping or completely flat colors Amazing work on this as with everyone else here We congratulate you on how well this project is looking and cant wait to see more!
Just as I had predicted. I’ve noticed that there is a pattern to the styles of games. All the games in the fallen timeline except for the last one has basically the same style, except older ones are just more pixelated (of course). All games in child timeline also have the same style as each other, and same thing with the games in the adult timeline. To me it really does look like some spell has been casted like before skyward sword to make the style of the universe just slowly change over time, meaning all the styles actually are a part of the story. Yes I know it’s a crazy theory, but just look at the styles in timeline order, it looks like they slowly shift from one style to the other as time goes on. And botw and totk are extremely far into the future, away from the other games, and they have a VERY different style - there was a lot of time for style to change several times before botw. This exact theory also explains why in the world the creators of tloz decided to create a game with the style of Link’s Awakening, because I’m almost certain this won’t do as well as another open world game. That just seems like a bad business decision, unless, however, they’re trying to convey a story. Maybe there is a huge piece of plot in this game that will tell us maybe like something about the timeline merge idk, so to actually convey this message, they would be forced to use this style, because this era it happened in had this style. Without doing really any research, I just guessed it would be really close to Link’s Awakening based off the style, or just somewhere on the fallen timeline, and it was correct. Crazy theory, but I really don’t see a reason it couldn’t be true. Still may not be true, but still could be true, plus it explains some of their weird decision making.
I think it takes place right after links awakening, the nightmare Ganon has the same double ended spear, and it would make sense that link was disguising himself to reach that point cause he was out of the country in a coma
I assumed it takes place after spirit tracks as the sword and bow that link uses look similar to the locomo weapon from the same game. Could therefore take place in the same timeline, maybe after.
Immediately after a link to the past but before links awakening. The portals could be the Dethi trying to capture link before trapping him on koholint Island
I mean it’s pretty clear it takes place in the Fallen Timeline somewhere after Link to the Past and Link’s Awakening and the Oracle Games. Either before or after Link Between Worlds. I guess it could even take place after Zelda 2 for all we know. After the events of Oracle, Ganon was resurrected but was incomplete. Rendering him a mindless beast. This is what allowed Yuga to merge with him. The body was alive so Ganon couldn’t reincarnate. But when Yuga Ganon was defeated he was fully killed and could reincarnate again. Until this game, we assumed his next life was the Ganon in Zelda 1 with the looming threat of resurrection in Zelda 2. But maybe this was a Ganon between that. There’s also a possibility this occurs after the timeline merge. That’s the benefit of not having a timeline with set dates. It’s in order of games not years. With the exception of that 10,000+ year gap before BOTW.
The artstyle seems similar to the recent Link's Awakening remake, and the oracle games were direct sequels to the og Link's Awakening. If they feature the same things as the new game, it stands to reason it would take place around the same general spot on the timeline
Idk but it looks good. Finally more games in the old school style just with upgraded graphics. Something I always wanted as a kid. Only old attempt I was aware of was phantom hourglass and these new Nintendo switch ones are doing it wayyy better
I think it's a branch off the ending of A link to the past because it's the same animation style as 2019 Links awakening, and the link from Links awakening is the same like as the one from A link to the past. Also, it's the only other time that Link has fought Ganon.
I really hope this takes place after the oracle games or is a split off from them as well. This could be the last oracle game we were supposed to get back when they were released
So for starters my hope is it takes place after four swords adventure in the child timeline. And we see ganon released from the foursword, we see the mastersword be damaged trying to kill him off and then the spacial portal things are the starts of the timelines crashing together because of whatever soccerer who released ganon is trying to cause. So we them see the calamity that destroys hyrule leaving it vacant for rauru to later find and re-establish hyrule.
I think that A Link to the Past happened, then Link wanted some adventure so Links Awakening happened, and because he was gone, (I don’t care that this is non cannon technically it’s a Zelda game) Ancient Stone Tablets happened. Then the Oracle games, making Link decide to go back, and thus, this game happens.
I suspect this is the moment between transition from the light to the dark world when Zelda is banished and Link disappears from the Light Realm to save her; it’s not that she’s trapped immediately perhaps, only that he is shifted into the future when the crystals hold sway over capture of the 7 maidens including Zelda. By breaking the crystal as he escapes he gives her a chance to alter the future and render his disappearance into the Dark World unnecessary, sparking a new timeline in the process towards the spinoff games that followed and their subsequent lore. But really who knows right 😅 “Link, Zelda is your…”
