Ok so here’s my story about this song…. Whenever I here this play it brings me back to my youth of the 1980’s. Laying on my parents living room floor watching the great sitcoms of yesterday, covered up in blankets all snuggled up, warm, secure, protected from any outside worries. Spending everyday with my family, going to church on Sunday morning, waiting for the telephone to ring from your friends, playing outside no matter the weather , going to the mall in Sandusky, Ohio where there really was a bar named Cheers. Just a little song can trigger so many vivid memories. It makes me sad though, as I miss those days and people that used to be in my life. God bless.
It just makes me want sing the version I wrote. My mother grew up around alcoholics & worked in more than a couple of bars so this show never really played in my house...
@@doaa757 not my life. She never drank, and her first couple of jobs were also in bars so she just doesn't watch anything centered around them or drinking
No matter how many times I listen to this song, I never tire of it. Thank God for Cheers existing, without it this song wouldn't exist, at the most fall into obscurity....
I first heard this on AT. I think a lot of people have. And I listened to it, thought it wasn't bad, just a regular song I didn't love. Now listening to it a couple more times, it's making me pretty happy. I felt sad today and it was the one song that would cheer me up. I don't know if this is because of sentimental value or what (the episode), but now I love this song.
@@fun6264 I can think of a Parody Of a Villains Pub where Anime and Cartoon Villains would be hanging out together, Like, Sartorius (Yu-Gi-Oh G X) Playing a Game Of Darts With Guzma (Pokemon Sun and Moon Ultra Adventures). Giovanni (Team Rocket Leader, Pokemon) having a beer with, Valtor (The Winx Club), Cobra Commander (G.I. Joe a Real American Hero), Hordak (She-Ra Princess Of Power (the old school cartoon show), Mr. Sinister (X-Men The Animated Series). Carmen Sandiego (Where On Earth Is Carmen Sandiego) Playing Poker With Narissa (W.I.T.C.H), Natasha Fatale (Rocky and Bowinkle Cartoon Series), Hunter J (Pokemon Diamond & Pearl), Duke Igthorn (Disney's Adventures Of The Gummy Bears), Cruella De Ville (101 Dalmatians Animated Series), Prince Lotor (Vultron Defenders Of The Universe (Old School One) ). etc. etc.
I feel like the meaning of this song is a longing for community. " You want to be where you can see our troubles are all the same" and " You want to be where everybody knows your name". In a way it's like if one had a community they would be able to understand each other struggles and relate to the problems one goes through. The second part " You want to be where everybody knows your know" kind of feels like a reference to how no one knows each other it's like you want to be in a place where people know you and it's like in a sense where you know people in your community. It almost feels like this song predicts the problems gen-z has been going through and our struggles with a lack of community.
Oh man! You're missing something. Go watch it if you haven't by now. It's as good as it's theme, if not better...and matches it perfectly. Lots of TV shows don't really match up well with their theme song, but Cheers and its song are perfectly suited for each other.

I remember when I was a little Kid about 8 or 9 I was in my bed At night I heard this song on the Television downstairs my parents in the kitchen I felt this special Deep feeling of curiosity and authenticity
When your at college and money tight, homework due, and your hangover. There isn't a better song to listen to when heading home. A small town wherein the bars everybody knows your name and everybody glad to see you. Nothing like home. Right?
Brings back memories at Grandpa's house! All those times watching "MASH" , "Matlock" and especially "CHEERS" ! Man this one here is definitely a classic. Cheers to life 🍻
3 of the biggest shows of all time: 'Friends', 'How I Met Your Mother' and 'Adventure Time' have all referenced this song. I think this shows how influential just the theme song along is.
@@he.5865 as I told him, it is subjective. I think it is also generational. You almost have to break it down by generations and say what were the best shows from each generation. That's just one example, back in the seventies "All in the family" was a huge show. But not so much today and many young people have never even heard of it. More recently, even Seinfeld. It was an enormous hit in the '90s, but not so much today. And then the opposite direction, older people are not going to consider newer shows as big a hit as the older shows they watched in their younger days. This concept goes to a lot of subjects, not just television shows, for example, who were the best athletes in various sports.
I can fix this problem for you. Read and hum the following. "I'm Henry the Eighth I am, Henry the Eighth I am, I am. I got married to the widow next door. She's been married seven TIMES before! And every one was a Henry. She wouldn't have a Willie or a Sam. I'm 'er eighth old man, I'm Henry. Henry the Eighth I am. Second verse, same as the FIRST..." Repeat this until you wish FERVENTLY the theme to Cheers was back in your head. 😂 Glad to be of assistance!
Among the greatest television theme songs. There certainly were a lot of really good theme songs over the decades. I'd like to make a compilation of them sometime.l
so i could sing along Making your way in the world today Takes everything you've got Taking a break from all your worries Sure would help a lot Wouldn't you like to get away? All those nights when you've got no lights The check is in the mail And your little angel Hung the cat up by it's tail And your third fiance didn't show Sometimes you wanna go Where everybody knows your name And they're always glad you came You wanna be where you can see (ah-ah) Our troubles are all the same (ah-ah) You wanna be where everybody knows your name Roll out of bed, Mr. Coffee's dead The morning's looking bright (the morning's looking bright) And your shrink ran off to Europe And didn't even write And your husband wants to be a girl Be glad there's one place in the world Where everybody knows your name And they're always glad you came You wanna go where people know People are all the same You wanna go where everybody knows your name Where everybody knows your name (where everybody knows your name) And they're always glad you came Where everybody knows your name (where everybody knows your name) And they're always glad you came Where everybody knows your name (where everybody knows your name) And they're always glad you came Where everybody knows your name (where everybody knows your name)
@@CatalystGP He explained the reason perfectly well. So he could sing along. Having the lyrics all in one place, so you can look ahead and familiarize yourself with the upcoming lyrics, does really help people to sing along.
Respect for your comments on Sophia! I was blown away by the performance but I had a gut feeling I heard it before. I was a toddler when Cheers was on the tv. You made this brilliant song. Sophia has removed the dust a bit but all credits to you!
I watched Cheers once on Netflix as a marathon, and was glad I did. Then, about 5 years later, I watched the Adventure Time episode, and man, oh man, I cried. Went back to Netflix, watched a few episodes again.
