they have to be calm in any situation. That’s what they’re trained to do at least because if someone starts freaking out, they’ll start to get sloppy and end up crashing. You have to be entirely focused when flight a plain because anything could distract you and end up, causing you to lose control of the plane
I’m training to become a pilot and whenever i use my headset i have to have the microphone almost in my mouth because otherwise it doesn’t pick up me talking. so that i think that’s why airline pilots always sound like that

Was a real case once where 4/4 engines were lost mid-flight (they all booted up again an then #2 failed) and they were like, "uh, yeah we are experiencing some minor issues, all 4 engines have stopped working and we are actively trying to restart them.
