The sad thing is this song isn’t as relevant as it was in 2003 it’s more relevant little did us kids know back then that the tragic events in sept. 2001 were only the beginning of the sad seismic shift of society social media made us even more isolated more divided and more contentious with our neighbors. I know I’m only about to turn 30 but even since my childhood it’s so saddening to see what’s happening to this world this song hit me even harder listening to it today than it did as a 9/10 year old. May our world see a day where the simplicity and peace I knew as a child is restored. Where we can restore the concept of neighborliness again and see a world where people who seemed different could bond and become friends. Where codes and certain unspoken rules of common courtesy matter. Now that those in my generation are adults, let us all show an example of the change we wish to see in the world.

This song makes me cry just thinking what the black eyed peas are doing for people. It also hurts my heart to see people getting shamed based on their colour. Sometimes I would stand up for them, even though im not the same skin. Afterwards they would ask me "Why?" I have three nieces (my cousin's child). I call them my niece, because it's just part of my Filipino culture. It's hard to explain, but every time I listen to this song. I actually thought this song was recently new since the rap group got back together, well almost all of them, and it felt so emotional and powerful. I was just listening to it over the weekend and was taken away by the lyrics and the chorus. This entire song is completely relevant to everything going on in the world today, even if this song was from many years ago. My most favorite line is “Father, Father, Father, help us. This song makes me wanna cry. I wasn’t alive for 9/11, but knowing that everything I know and love probably wouldn’t exist if we didn’t win. My siblings, my cousins, my best friends. And everybody else, too. I don’t really know much about it, cause I’m not really able to read about stuff like that without breaking down, but I do know that the people who stopped them are amazing.
