The opening lyrics, "like a quiet love" has the kanji 恋 (koi) which is mostly used for romantic love or longing for someone, it’s different from 愛 (ai) which is more used for family, friends, etc. And the ending visuals have orange flowers called Osmanthus, that represent pure love, fertility and also first love and in one frame you can see Gojo and Geto sitting together with those flowers between them. It’s very funny to me that some of the mappa staff might ship them and what is crazier is that Akutami was involved and revised everything in the production so everything has to be approved by him lol.
So if you’re Japanese then they’re just obviously gay as gay can get? Like if a western show had a rainbow, and the two guys have a cup I shoot an arrow through both their hearts?
@@alwest4472i mean its still up to interpretation for the most part, but the cultural implications towards a more than platonic relationship is pretty obvious if you get it. It’s hinting towards more quarter, semi canon than full on canon relationship.
Not to mention the fact that both if them canonically died on December 24th, the most romantic day of the year in Japanese culture, as well as had their falling out scene in front of a building specifically designed after a real world KFC, which is a common place for romantic partners to eat at on Dec 24th. There are so many reasons to believe that Gege was purposely writing them as romantic in nature.
Japanese here. Blue is probably referring to 青春 or enjoyment of youth. So the song is about the time and memory that will never come back but never be forgotten either.
I think their relationship is the most fleshed out in the story. usually, Gege doesn't go too deep into relationships because the pace of the story is so fast - he just lets us fill in the blanks. but with these two, he went deep and it still affects the story. even after their tragic fallout, they still remained special in each other's lives. I'd call them soulmates since they never really opened up to anyone after losing each other. the fact that Gojo was delaying killing Geto for 10 years despite being the only one who could execute the order until Geto just didn't leave him a choice. the way they still referred to each other as Satoru and Suguru, calling each other their only best friend. how they both basically adopted kids at the age of 18 and continued to protect their "families of sorcerers". how after Geto said he couldn't smile from the bottom of his heart in a world like that, he heard Gojo's last words to him and had the most sincere smile before dying - these are such touching but heart-breaking details. and even after Geto's death, it's still the biggest "weakness" of Gojo. we've only seen him show extreme emotional response 2 times so far and both were because of Geto (when he learned what Geto did and in the next arc which i don't want to spoil). this loss humanizes Gojo so much. Gege has this whole theme of the loneliness of the strongest, "love is the worst curse of them all", etc. and i think Geto and Gojo's relationship plays a huge role in it. only in Gojo's case, just fighting someone equally strong will never be enough (like maybe Sukuna thinks), it's having someone who clicks with you on every level - something he had, something he lost. MAPPA really highlighted their relationship even more. the opening and ending are such a great addition to this arc as well as some new/changed scenes. with the editing, OSTs and cinematography, plus their facial expression animation and VA's acting it just hit harder.
I got a feeling that Kenjaku might jump in during Gojo beat up Sukuna, causing emotional distress on Gojo, giving both Kenjaku and Sukuna a chance for giving him a fatal blow. Gojo managed to survive but he already too tired (he got nose bleed) so the RCT works slower.
This! Their love, romantic or not (let everyone decide), is found in their connection and their capacity to complement each other. Their relationship had such a sad ending and that broke my heart but was so interesting to watch.
Yes of course there was love there BEST FRIENDS, kenjaku is literally more of a villain than sukuna he’s been playing with everyone ever since gojo had to kill his best friend, I will be whole again once yuji or yuta take his damn brain and turn it into pudding
You just can’t be that connected to someone, and it not symbolizes soulmates. Whether people just want to view it as platonic. They died on the same day that is the most romantic time in Japan, they both died think about each other, they were best friends, they have the same f’ing initials, they had so much in common, they understood each other, both considered themselves as their one and only, they never moved on from each other… js man, there’s no way you can ignore this shit. Ps- gege likes to read BL mangas.
I can't believe I'm not seeing anyone else mention this, but this video made me realize another potential meaning of their "blue" still living. Blue is the most powerful ability Gojo has at the start of this arc, which he of course keeps, and blue is an extremely powerful attractive force. So, the things that pull these two together still exist.
Im glad this chemistry between them was enlightened and acknowledged by a guy for once. It's always that the female part of the fandom acknowledges whats between them whether romantic OR platonic whereas the male part avoids the topic like plague. All they focus is on the character's powers and stuff which really shadow's the author's effort on putting so much effort on one's relationship with others. TYSM for making this. I hope this video helps other people realize that whatever they had between them was a HUGE part of both their characters.
Thats weird because literally every single video I've seen thag talk about Gojo and Geto talk about their relationship, where are these videos u talking bout
@@MANGAKA__13 ur so terrified of the word gay. Op said it might be platonic or romantic. Having feels for someone doesn't translate to having anal sex with them. They probably did have strong feelings for each other, it's an element added to story writing. Considering how gojo's biggest weakness was his fumble regarding his ex best friend geto
THIS WAS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL CHARACTER ANALYSIS 😭 SO BEAUTIFULLY ARTICULATED AND THOUGHT OUT~ Thank you for this! I didn't think SatoSugu could hurt me any more than they already have, but here we are! 💀
This was a great video! I like how you approached their relationship from a platonic and possible romantic angle. I personally ship them but I recognize how powerful their friendship is in general. They are soulmates however you interpret it and not even death can break that.
You really captured all the facets of their dynamic really well, I am a shipper and i believe what they shared was smth that simply transcends the line of romantic or platonic and you did an amazing job to portray that. W analysis!
great video, as others have said i really appreciate the level headed take on geto and gojos relationship. i don't consider myself a "shipper" by any means, but as a queer person myself their relationship just has details coded in that i can see and relate to my own (and many other's queer) experiences. it's disheartening as a queer jjk enjoyer to see people constantly write off this interpretation as some insane fandom shipping when in reality there's obvious subtext with deep rooted queer history and symbolism (especially in the anime) and even if there wasn't, their dynamic is one that a lot of lgbt folks relate to, especially the idea of finding your soulmate in your best friend and it never being actualized or being doomed from the get-go. regardless of their true feelings to each other, they were never verbalized (except maybe in geto's last moments, as gege said it was something never spoken between them before), they cared deeply for each other and shared a bond on a fated, soul-level. even without any romantic interpretation, this special bond is intentionally crafted into the story, especially when considering the way sukuna has been talking about the "love" that exists between the strongest. another thing i dont hear a lot of people talking about (unrelated to my queer-coding take) is how gojo and geto may have differing morals but they have incredibly similar motivations, and i don't think gojo could ever divorce that concept, which is part of why he never executed geto until he had to. they both wanted a better world for sorcerers, for their families. gojo's long term goal is to foster strong allies so he can entirely reform the world of jujitsu sorcery. geto just had other means to this end. i think this is a huge part of what's so interesting (and tragic) about their dynamic. their cursed techniques are almost curses themselves, and with the way jujitsu sorcery currently functions, their role and fates are massive for them just being teenagers, and the rest of their lives look grim. geto tried to find a life that would satisfy him and make a better world for jujitsu sorcerers, even if the means to get there were heinous. geto's own downfall and final speech to gojo have motivated gojo to do the same thing, but you know, without killing innocent people. while i'm at it, a lot of people leave out shoko when analyzing this arc too, and i think she ties in with them a lot more than we think and was (sadly) sort of thwarted by the narrative. she's the only proper healer. half the cast would be gone without her. she was doomed to a fate of constantly looking after the corpses of her comrades or doing everything she could to keep them alive. people are quick to cast her aside and not recognize that she was also one of the strongest, in her own way, and she was their friend too. yet, she has to remind gojo that she's always been there as an adult because losing geto was such a devastating change for him, which only highlights how important and different the relationship between gojo and geto was imo.
That basketball convo is important: Satoru- despite being a prick, believes in not believing vs Geto who tried to convince himself in something he never could. Satoru never lied and Suguru always lied until he defected
This arc is such a beautiful story, and is my favorite arc in the series. It's tragic, but beautiful. Their friendship is so special and the way it was written is just perfect. Like the timing, making it a flashback after showing the consequences in the future, was the best way to do it imo. It really just magnifies the emotional aspect. IDK if that's the right word to use or if I'm explaining it in a way that makes any sense lol. But before this arc I liked jujutsu kaisen ok, but it was just ok to me. After this arc I became absolutely obsessed, because it's just so emotionally effective. I got a new black kitten only a couple weeks before watching it 😭 and I named him Vinny after Vincent Valentine from FF7 because his litter was found on Valentine's Day. But I seriously wish I had watched this arc before I got him so I could've named him Geto 😭 I'll have to get a pair of kittens someday, one black and one white, so I can name them Gojo and Geto. Anyway... Also...Geto slaughtering that stupid village was 100% the right thing to do.. I don't even care lol. Oh, and for me, I choose to see their relationship as definitely having a romantic undercurrent. Their love felt stronger than a platonic friendship. Maybe nothing would have ever come from it, but they had that deep love for each other. Also, I think Gojo is bi, lol. He did make that comment about the female model who he had as his screen saver being hot. And he was in love with Geto, therefore, he's bi. Lol. Maybe pan. (I need to believe he's also attracted to women ok 😭)
This video was beautifully done (both content and edition) As someone who tooks his relationship as platonic more than romantic I loved the approach fron different perspectives you made. You didn't let any aspect ignored. I just have a weakness for this friends to enemies arcs... like Griffith and Guts or Suzuku and Lelouch.
Maybe instead of a romantic love MAPPA was referring to the love that only the strongest can teach each other. It has been said and inferred that Gojo and Geto were the strongest. And now Yorozu has said something similar to Sukuna regarding Gojo.
And Gojo wanted to do the same to Sukuna, and Sukuna also knows the love of someone who is the strongest and taught it to Kashimo. So yeah, based on what Gege wrote, it's definitely about such Love.
Didn't Gojo's voice actor say that Gojo's last words were 3 words, which was rather embarrassing and had never been uttered by him before that moment? Their character truly fits the archetype of 'soulmates doomed by the narrative '.
i need every single jjk fan to watch this video because it's so painful sometimes to sit there and let people falsely analyze their relationship because it is such an important part to the story so thank you so much this was really informative and i think that this could really open the eyes of many readers and watchers to a new perspective
@@olyablablablaEXACTLY! i feel like megumi just kind of resembles jjk itself like his personality and experiences. Hes definitely on the top 3 of my favorite characters. he’s such a good written character
The way their story went reminds me a lot of two guys from the manga series X. Subaru and Seichiro. Once partners, then enemies. The one also kills the other and one whispers something we never hear. But in this case they were actually in love with each other but did not know it until it was to late.
well it was funny becasue he said there is no value in killing non sorcerer, but yuki said there is a value as in it will cause there to be no more curses, and that is the world Geto wanted
Excellent video! I would have loved to hear your take on the lyrics to Akari the ending song as well. I think if you view the lyrics of Ao no Sumika as Gojos perspective and Akari as Getos perspective you get a beautiful look into both of their mental states as they go through the events of their story together.
I literally searched up to google what does the blue colur symbolizes to and it said that it symbolizes to a person vulnerable, sensitive and reliable side to think of others. THAT'S IT,I AM FINISHED..why did gege had to kill them off?wish they were canon 😭
nice video and editing... what about the ending song "Akari" ? the lyrics always sound so lonely , I've been listening to the ending song more whenever im showering lol it kinda fit the mood sometimes, especially the part where it sing "kodoku under crying" repeatedly mean lonely & crying .... damn it just hit hard especially during shower 😢
Thank you very much for this video, you captured all aspects of the characters with great sensitivity. I would like to ask you to continue updating videos about them! As english is not my first language, I was unsure about what you said: do you believe in the satosugu romantic ship or not? thanks again ❤
Not trying to sound in a rough and disrespectful tone I didn’t make this video and I didn’t do any collaboration with you and I am not present in any show or anime and I am not in any anime
I see Satoru and Suguru as best friends, and i don't ship them, just like i don't ship Yuji and Nobara, Itadori and Megumi, and Satoru and Shoko, Because they are what they seem, best friends. And also Because they are best friends, it's in the manga and anime, abd they made that pretty clear. Also the song in that anime op is just interpretation, it can be about falling inlove yeah, but it's abouth youth which is what blue and sring represented, and how Satoru and Suguru are just youths having fun and being the strongest together until the real world decided to give them a reality check and exprience the harsh world and turn into a shell of their former selves. It is up to interpretation, but I don't think the songwriter or singer made it as a love song, is more about nostalgia and reminiscing the old days and your old friend. And also shipping best friends with each other no matter how many times they're proven they're not friends, has happened in every fandom, Jujutsu Kaisen is not an exception. It's okay that people ship what they want to ship. aslong as it doesn't affect my vibe, not shove the ship and their headcanons against my throat, not forcing the ship and headcanons to be canon when it's not, don't make shit up and say it was true, and not spread misinformation, not reaching, and not be an asshole and crazy when one does not agree. (i have mha and genshin fandom trauma) I'ma simple girl, really. If they are depicted as friends/best friends i see and think them as one if they are lovers confirmed by the creator it's the same thing, and so on so forth. And i better not catch them harrasing Gege to force it to be canon, just like the mha fandom, my neutral opinion about the ship will make me hate the ship and the shippers, i already don't like most of the stsg shippers due to most of them (in my experience) kinda reminding me of mha and genshin shippers because they're kinda crazy and a bit delulu but i just hope they're better than that. There some ships that won't be canon, i have tons of it and tou don't see me whining about it. Just have fun and take shit too far smh. Ok rant over i just realized i ranted a little there, but i said what i said. Also nice video, i guess i should've said that before writing a paragraph.
Literally the best video I’ve ever seen❤️ all in facts. And just to say. I see them like brothers, closest friends, soulmates🫶🏻 In japanese animes it is appreciated “BEST FRIEND -one and only”
Yo estuve enamorada de mi mejor amiga una buena parte de nuestra amistad. Pero me fui desenamorando porque ella nunca me correspondería porque es heterosexual. Así que no hables por todo el mundo.
why did you say gojo wanted rika to have a good time? that was all tengins wishes it had nothing to do with gojo they just said they would stop the merger but they wanted take her strait to tengin, your just wrong on this one
Gojo quite literally gave her an extra day to live her life as his way of showing compassion so that was his Idea. Tengen did ask to ablige Amani's Request but to say Gojo had nothing to do with it is just Wrong?!
Tengin said let her live her life as Is right up untill the merger gojo did have to take her away and adapt it but he was all for taking her right to tengin untill geto explained to him they had to wait
@@JSyncGamesThat's bc Gojo is prioritizing her safety, not the merger. As we learn later they weren't even planning to force her to merge. Once they think they're relatively safe in Okinawa they both want to let Riko have fun. Geto even outright says it's Gojo's way of showing compassion for her. Seriously what do u think Gojo is, a drone following orders or something? They were actively planning to fight Tengen if it came to that, he doesn't give a shit what Tengen wants here.
@@JSyncGamesIf he were making strictly logical decisions and taking all the care possible to get her to Tengen safely they would've gone back early. Instead he gave her an extra day.
That why Gojo is continuing Geto dream in a way. Not through killing no sorcerers but by making the new generation strong so they dont have to suffer the way Haibara and Geto did. Then by changing the JJK higher ups on how to do things without kiling young kids.
Great video and editing. I also think Suguru and Satoru's relationship can be seen many, many ways and it always work. Brothers. Best friends. Lovers. It's one if the reasons why it's compelling. Everyone can grow distant from someone they genuinely love over time and realize when it's too late. For me, Satoru always struck me as slightly queer coded and I think the intro and ed for the season really give romance vibe. The lyrics. The scenes. I really like what Mappa did with the op and ed. I am not saying I see them as lovers in a relationship, but maybe they liked each other more than best friends. They have a great chemistry regardless. Kenjaku litteraly knew Gojo was not over it still a few years later and how it would be conflicting for him to see Geto's body again. I do not understand why people are upset about this. Straight guys have plenty of typical friendship relationship in anime and manga. In JJK, there's a lot already. Megumi and Yuji are great friends. Todo and Yuji too. Does it really matter if Gojo was in love with his best friend? This duo is one of the best in Shonen. Gege cared about their dynamic. It's the one he wrote about the most I think. There's a lot of nuance. I know he says he dislike Gojo, but he wrote an amazing arc and fall out for Geto and him. It's litteraly the catalyst for a lot if the events in JJK. Suguru is an amazing character. His dépression and loneliness was well written. You can relate to him a lot. It's a shame Gege kinda stopped doing stuff like that lately with his characters. It's just battle after battle, the plot and his character are barely moving forward.
Also in the specialz song there's a dialogue between gojo an geto and while geto talks about it's regets, gojo tells him about his love for him and how he is his only weaknes (it's the get lost in me Part) , king gnu said that dialogues ahve an intebtion are not jus put randomly
Bro they were so close that when the question of saving riko aka literally gonna challenge tengen whom they only heard of never met yet they say hell yea bro we’ll fight to the death together we’re the strongest
Thank you for showing love for my boi Geto. You have your toji fans and gojo fans, mines Geto. He's the whole reason why I picked up the manga and started reading years back. Always appreciate your time on your content videos and love watching your jjk videos. Many good fortune and many blessings your way my man! 👏🙌👍💯
I am beginning to think that Gege had that one best friend too that he couldn't save in the past... And then turned that experience into this anime. Dunno but that's how it felt for me....
Suguru held duty and the principal of protecting others; who couldn’t protect themselves above all else. But before he slipped into darkness Suguru still had…faith in Satoru and his duty as a sorcerer- yet it held him in a cage. Satoru was the one who had freedom and the open sky that was his for the taking but like a bird over the ocean he kept flying. Suguru couldn’t stand tasting the vomit and seeing that road filled with the bodies of his homies, seeing two innocent girls being treated like animals. He couldn’t stand seeing all of humanity that’s only repeating the cycle of anger and hatred, turning themselves into monsters. Satoru had it all and yet he couldn’t save the ONE person he held above all else from himself although Satoru stayed in the light of the budda; Suguru fell into the dark of Asura. This Satosugu shit got so serious that I’ll NEVER see a KFC the same way again
A really well done vid. Also I may ship SatoSugu, I def don't shy from the platonic interpretation as someone who's experienced a friendship breakup, those things can sometimes be more intense and painful than a romantic one. Granted the breakup was with someone I had know for over 10 years, but still. Either way these two loved each other deeply, and clearly meant a lot to one another even some ten plus years later. Their relationship is certainly one my favorite things about JJK, as without the doomed by the narrative nature of their relationship the story of JJK as it is now wouldn't have existed at all. Also Geto dying on the 24th of December, considered as one of Japan's most romantic days of the year, beaten by a kid who's whole theme and cursed technique revolves around the concept of true love. It definitely means something. But who knows.
As a shipper I understand both platonic and romantic part of gojo and Geto which no matter which way you interpret it will have no change to their amazing and tragic relationship
i think geto and gojo's relationship, however you perceive them to be, really just goes to show us just how showing a strong bond between people can actually work as a character study. it's something i strive to do when writing, that whether i'm writing a friendship or a romantic relationship, that by being together they both grow and show their truest selves. bonds between people can be a very, very powerful thing and one i hate to see dismissed because either "they're only friends" or "haha gay"
Hey, Jordan @EnemyStandUser, your take on the Hidden Inventory and Premature Death was seriously on point! 💯 I'm feeling how you broke down Gojo and Geto's bond in that arc and how they grew into the characters we stan today. Your video really hit me in the feels, my dude. 😢 I totally relate to Geto's struggles, and while some anime newbies might think Yuki pushed him to off non-sorcerers, real fans know that the execution of the SPV Riko Amanai and Haibara's loss took him to that dark place. Keep dropping those fire videos, much love for the passion you're putting in! 🔥🙌 Our Blue Still Lives
His take on geto 😩😩 Sometimes I wish they could have used some of ESU’s(enemystanduser) monologues in episode 5 of the anime cause his breakdown of geto losing his way … gold
@@brunoglorvis1710 For sure, he called out the situation and explained it so beautifully, like, no cap! Right off the bat, he nailed the main point and spoke on it so fire. No doubt, he went straight to the core of it and described it all as super dope. He got right to the point and put it across with some real finesse, you know? 😌
This was such a wonderful, well put and well thought out video. Perfectly expresses my feelings on why I really love their arc..So bittersweet. Thank you for this so much. ❤❤❤❤
Still listening, but I really feel like something could of been different if they fought Toji together, even if they lost. The defeat could of been shared somehow.
After watchig S2 and waching 0 again now with understanding who Geto was and Gojo and Shoko reactions dialogue it is painfully obvious this is what he said because during that dialogue they are talking about their past and how Gojo trusted Geto not to kill Panda and Inumaki.
@@TheZephyExperienceWhat interview? No, he didn't. He's dropped a few hints about what it is, like: - It's 3 words in english - It's something that was said by another character in the 0 movie But canonically we still don't know what was said. The best friend thing is a popular fan headcanon.
You did really well by adding that emotional end there, as a sort of conclusion. The whole video was a true delight to watch. I didnt expect for my heart to get ripped out at the end there - its rare to view these morally ambiguous characters in such serene way (within the specific context), but it truly felt good to hear.
I think the main difference between the two is how they view power. Geto thinks that power separates them from the powerless. Early on he attaches responsibility to power. Gojo doesn't see power as being anything other than a single characteristic that doesn't say or mean anything beyond the face value. It's a smart way to set it up. Geto thinks that power colors everything and is a key dynamic in how people should act.
it was really good and interesting video, finally someone who explain it very perfectly, their chemistry between them was as beautiful as any classic books I've been read and i think they were soulmates in platonic way spoiler alarts ......................... cause gojo said once in manga to kenjako: my six eyes saying you are suguro but my soul know the otherwise, who the hell are you ? )
Maybe it's just bc I'm aroace, but to me it truly doesn't matter if satosugu is platonic or romantic. Either way they are some kind of soulmates. It's a relationship better demonstrated than labeled. Great vid ❤️❤️
