Seems like black gets a rook and a pawn for two minor pieces which isn’t great, but white does not end up with a rook on an open file. @monstermagnet3150
@monstermagnet3150 2 года назад
Sicilian is harder, I second what Иван Чевелев wrote, the caro-kann is fun and easier to learn/understand : basically, you'll have to know good answers (main ideas, first 10 moves that you like) against the advance, the exchange and the classical variations, then you can focus on rarer formations such as the Panov, Fantasy, Van der Wiel, Mindeno and Goldman...
@mridgaf3233
@mridgaf3233 Год назад
The Sicilian offers more than the Caro Kann, honestly. CK is easier sure but can be drawish - which isn't a bad thing. You'll lose games in the Sicilian, especially when first learning it, but you'll also WIN a lot more than you would with the CK

I've been playing the King's Indian since I was 700 rated. Glad to hear that it's finally acceptable for me to play since I hit 1600 rating :). Jokes aside, I wish I'd played d4 d5 or e4 e5 more often (from black's side). I'd often get checkmated quickly and not understand what I did wrong (usually a simple h5 would've saved me), or slowly lose on the queenside because I never knew to play f4. White only has to learn one way to attack the king's indian, while black has to learn how to respond to many possible setups from white.

I’d say you can have a brief look at the KID as a lower rated player , aslong as you have a rough idea of some lines , most opponents don’t know how to combat it it’s only as you reach 900/1000 that it becomes unreasonable again unless you really put in the time because the opponents either just know theory or atleast know how to punish that style of play
@lonewolf6327
@lonewolf6327 2 года назад
Most players, especially the London players, either get forked in the center with prepared e5 -> e4 push, or they castle kingside and get stormed on the kingside. Most challenging play to deal with as a KID player at that level is when your opponent castles queen side and storms on the kingside. But that can be dealt with as well.

By watching all of Sensei’s video and absorbing it and practicing, you’ll surpass this level in no time. 1200 you have a good solid fundamental understanding established. (The most fun level to play at in my opinion) 1300-1400 you have tactics and come up with some neat ideas. (Sacrifices and Gambits happen here a lot) 1500 you have a decent end game and are familiar with openings. 1600-1700 you start to have a game plan of goals you would like to have. Like strong squares and weak squares, good exchanges. (I tend to underestimate some potential of pieces and my ratings fluctuate like crazy at the bullet/blitz level here) 1800 you finally take advantage of momentum a lot better and find a lot of good moves. (I have trouble here due to time pressure and incorrect executions of techniques) 1900 you are very competent at finding the best move if given time and probably are one of the strongest now at a club level. You understand what your opponent is doing most of the time (chess commentator agadmator is at this level I believe) 2000 you’ve finally hit Candidates Master and maybe National Master soon or something.

I’d say it’s better to be comfortable in many types of positions and play many different openings so you can learn more tactics etc. versus only playing one opening that may limit your exposure to certain themes. Also I think he mentioned that successfully playing the KID requires knowledge of lots of different ideas that might be unintuitive or violate some common principles
@jackson32
@jackson32 2 года назад
Yeah playing it a lot is another way to go about learning the ideas, but I bet you lost a high percentage of games with it in the beginning. I played with someone who was about 1700 and I saw him play the kings indian against someone a few times and just new this guy had no idea what he was doing playing the kings indiain. So we agreed that whenever I played e4 we would both agree to go into the kings indian. First 15 games I had like 13 wins 1 loss and 1 draw. I am about 1850. He got better though, maybe since I played exclusively the bayonet attack and he learned the theory on it, so yeah if you learn the theory which is very large and know a lot of the ideas it is playable. I think at the armature level it is also a lot more fun to play, these days it is unreal how at the highest levels most of the games after d4 are the queens gambit declined, which frankly I find a little boring. I play the slav which is more interesting than the quees gambit declined IMO.
@Jj82op
@Jj82op 2 года назад
Same with me, I think it's about a case by case scenario. In my situation I decided to make my opennings repertoire around 1000 elo and I was inspired by the games I saw with it, mainly some games from Kasparov and Hikaru. I also made my opennings diverse beacause I felt like it was too boring to try to play the same against London, moderns, English, etc Same with the white side. I also try to learn from different videos (both about the KID and random blitz games) that I watch, all with different opennings as well and I feel like I am not going in completly blind.

hey daniel, what do you think about playing openings like vienna and closed sicilian as a main opening with white for intermediate players who are serious and training to become a master?

If you’re serious then focus on reading books and not what opening to play. But…I doubt you’re really that serious

Massive success at 1400 here so I have to disagree for the first time in a long time 🤣 So much good info in here that I'm gonna find it more difficult if I play anyone that watches u 😉

it's likely your opponents at 1400 may not know how to challenge the KID. at 1700 chess com I get crushed whenever i play the KID, even though I know the basic principles well enough.

You always play this opening which you don't recommend to most of your viewers. It would be interesting to see an opening like the Nimzo or the Queen's Indian which more people can relate to...

Not really this the first time I've seen him play this on a speedrun in a long time. And he's at the 1900 rating so he does recommend it to his viewers who are at that rating. He has videos for the other ratings

Daniel King claims the KID is disappearing from top level chess. A few stalewarts still play it, but it's not nearly as popular as it once was. I mean when you have people like Fischer and Kasparov playing it, hell, why not play it too? Nakamura still plays it. Daniel says that when it "goes wrong" it just GOES WRONG. For what it's worth.
