@@JayJoker958 well i was born and raised in so.Cal , moved to P-Town in the late 80s until it got to much BS , tired of my car getting broke into or my wall being spray painted , homeless stealing my garden hose it was time to move, so to answer your comment i have been living in these shitholes all my life finally live where i dont see blue tarps outside my front door everyday..to each his own my brother be safe

its relative. The 6+ months of rioting and rampant homelessness and boarded up businesses give the impression of a dangerous city. Its mostly just a drugged up dirty city, which is sad because it used to be super clean. We do have a lot of sex trafficking and our property crime is super high. That's because we're a drug hot spot. Portland decriminalized drugs so remember that when looking at stats. If the city doesn't recognize drug use as a crime, it won't show up on the feds list. Just saying. It is beautiful, but there are some draw backs. 1) within city limits, there is a surprising lack of quality hikes. Especially ones that aren't over taken by homeless / creeps. You need to drive about 1hr outside the city to get to a decent hike. Within the city its more about dog parks and bike trails. 2) When you get to your hike 1hr outside the city (besides Multnomah falls) most hikes will be around 6 miles one way. People here view hiking as an all day event, not just a few hours. 3) swimming is practically non-existent. The coast you're not swimming at. The rivers and lakes are cold af too from glacier melt / springs. Most rivers are rocky and slippery and most lakes are muddy grass. A sandy beach is actually fairly hard to come by. I've been here since 07 and have only been able to find maybe 3 legit swimming areas with a sady beach. And only 1 of them is family friendly. If you like swimming, Oregon isn't the place to move to. Bend, OR has some decent water activities but they get a ton of wet heavy snow. 4) seafood is surprisingly not very common here. Even at the coast is mediocre at best. Idk why that is. We have a huge coast line everyone should be eating seafood, but many people here dont. Crab maybe once in a while.....maybe Salmon.....thats about it. Its not a seafood paradise like Marine is. I had way more seafood growing up in Utica, NY than I do here. Quality here is surprisingly mediocre also. 5) Hiking, Camping, Fishing, and Hunting are all there is to do. There aren't any real theme parks. The museums are bland and expensive. The zoo and aquarium is small and disappointing. Touring rock bands hardly come here. Our food scene is quite good, but we're missing huge styles. Primarily in comfort food. BBQ just isn't a thing. Italian is considered "ethnic". And forget about soul food. Most of Portland food is really just white people food with fancy ingredients. There is NY style pizza here, not great, but does the job.....looking at around $50+ for a large pizza. My point is, if you want entertainment you won't really find it in Portland. We have SOME but people come here for the nature. 6) people aren't mean.....but def not hospitable. I'd say portlanders are just pretentious eco-terrorists with a personality solely based on identity politics and craft brews. So not really mean or rude, but if you don't fit that description you won't fit in. Outside of portland people are quite conservative and take on that identity. Middle ground / common sense people don't find themselves welcome in portland. 7) our weather is mild temperature wise. But not getting sun is a serious drag for me personally. Consider that into your move.

@@livinginoregon I lived in California my whole life. Even Oakland. Up until 5 years ago. It’s worse here. Times 10. Portland absolutely fckn sucks!! Nothing good about it. Was overrated 5 years ago even when homelessness and poverty didn’t rule the lands.
