Where the GPX 6000 fails against the GPZ 7000

As good as the GPX6000 is it does have some issues, one of them is the ghost ground noise signals you can get from time to time. This is not to say we don't like the machine any less, it is just one of the differences one needs to get used to with a new machine.

Every detector I've ever owned (6) has done that at different times. Don't worry about it.

Wow! That really sounded like a target. I've had 2 scenarios where a clear target vanishes like that. A magnet on the end of the pick grabs the bit of iron after its dug out, or a very small thin bit of iron/gold that the detector hits when the target is flat in the ground but after its dug out its on its side so the detector doesn't hear it. Usually comes back after pushing the pile around for a while. I've found the 6000 does seem to like wet clay and tree roots. Thanks for sharing.

I've had tiny targets get lost in the dig pile that I've found again by spreading it out again. I haven't had issues with charcoal and we've had lots of fires recently. I do find it susceptible to ground noise but if you go real slow over the ground it will not flip between high and low...but a real target will.
@SmokeyProspecting
@SmokeyProspecting 2 года назад
Yeah it does seem to be better with the charcoal than the Z but the 11 inch mono struggles for us in wet mineralised ground. We keep on learning all the same 👍👍

I have literally found 100s but need to flatten the pile ,its the way geo sense reads the ground that gives you the target in the first instant

The SDC chases ghosts like that. you can feel 100% confident and then you are back filling.

I had the exact same issues last week in Warwick with the 17” coil 🤦🏽‍♂️. It was easily fixed by doing a ground balance more regularly, it also kept the machine running sweet so I was able to increase the sensitivity.

Hi Mate, you have the 17 hey? How are you going with it? 👍👍

The 5000 will do that now and then Smokey , my heart sinks as soon as i see a concentration of red, charcoal is usually a high low. Normally 3 plus grammers give a low high, and bullets lol
@SmokeyProspecting
@SmokeyProspecting 2 года назад
Yeah mate, I heard it is an X series trait. When we heard the low high we were definitely thinking a nice Nugg 👍👍

If the detector is using too much gain it can give rise to false signals, try to ground balance on the target to see if it is metal or not.

part 2 where the z fails against the 6000, two friends just came back from cue area, 7 weeks total detecting time, z total was 5 1/2 oz, 6000 total was 16 oz.

Maybe a thin piece of tin that was flat and the when it came out, it was on its side. Avery small piece. I have spent a lot of time chasing a phantom noise only to find as I refill the hole, Checked again and found a dit of tin or wire on the top of the ground
@SmokeyProspecting
@SmokeyProspecting 2 года назад
Hi Rob, a small target is never a low/high signal in my experience so that would count out something small and this is why we put it down to ground noise. 👍👍

You should have moved 90° around the hole then seen how loud the response was before you dug too deep. Nothing wrong with the 6000 earlier detectors have done this

Had to be a target??? I’ve had that happen with tiny gold on the 7000 and have had to methodically work the pile in different directions and then switch to normal, semi auto… rebalance and look again at full roar until finding the little bugger. Almost always tipped to a less reflective angle when dislodged. They’re almost always tiny little flat triangular suckers??? I take it as a point of honour to find the sneaky little beggars lol.

Yeah it’s hard to believe it disappeared but it wasn’t meant to be this day.

I know the 6 is auto tracking, but (sorry to say) i think your 'ground balancing' was the true fail here! Your pumping is way too fast and for too short an amount of time also. All you were essentially doing was knocking it OUT of balance by doing that AND you never balanced on top of the supposed target, in the hole. In SD + DD coil days we learned to try and get rid of suspect signals (red clay) and if we couldn't, then we dug. This is something that I see so many people overlook these days because it doesn't happen as often with modern machines.
@Doc314
@Doc314 11 месяцев назад
100% correct. Taking less out of the target hole each time avoids lost targets also. Sometimes a small clump of flour gold can give a target but when dispersed it vanishes. I can remember it happening to me once a few times in an area in Whipstick. I classified and bagged it up and took home, I have a clean up sluice running in my garage and to my amazement there was heaps of flour gold that even a monster would struggle with We all live and learn. I always do this now and have bags of hopefully pay dirt to process in those winter months when I cant get out there. If its the weakest of targets in the scoop and I cant see anything initially, I'll bag it and take it home. Us oldies get more because we are low and slow.

Try and ground balance out the target if it balances out its ground noise that's the case with my 4500 .

Did you check the magnet on the pick?
@SmokeyProspecting
@SmokeyProspecting 2 года назад
Hi Randy, no mate because a low/high signal is a bigger target response so it should have easily been heard once we dug it out. We both put it down to ground noise.
