It's that classic Sunday night ITV 'family' drama where everyone is really nice (except for the bad guy) and bad things happen but it all turns out well in the end anyway. Always stuck in my memory because of the titles and theme song written and sung by, of all people, Paddy McAloon. I noticed that there were no clips of the titles on RU-vid, so here's series 1 from the current repeat run on ITV3. This, with The Royal and Heartbeat, currently makes up the (as far as I know) popular ITV3 afternoon schedule, running on an eternal loop, and makes you wonder why ITV ditched them in the first place when they've gotten no better ideas than to stick an extra episode of Corrie on instead.
This particular show went under many cast changes over the years, most notably with Pam Ferris' character being killed off in a somewhat out-of-character (for this type of show at least) storyline. I think Sarah Lancashire had already left by that point, and Tony Haygarth followed soon after. Lancashire was replaced by Lesley Dunlop, and later on Ferris was replaced by Leslie Ash. It came to an end in 2006, by which time it had gained somewhat of a reputation for taking on former soap stars.
