Hey guys, just a quick comment to encourage you to keep up the great content! This is the ONLY channel that actually provides actual useful info on Headwaters! EVERY other channel is just the same old “some dude catching fish” video - worthless! Looking forward to more!
Greatly appreciate the feedback and engouement. Now that the holidays are behind us Dave and I will be back at it breaking down the lake along with a variety of other useful videos. Thanks again and Good fishing !
@@BeyondHeadwaters looking forward to it! My new Nitro Z18 Pro won’t be ready until mid Feb so I’m using this time to get as smart as I can on the reservoir which is important since there are no lake maps - justGoogle Earth.
@@theultimatesteelshooter8610 I am sure the wait is tough to handle. I ordered a new 26 hp Suzuki almost 4 months ago and I am still waiting for it to come in. Dave and I ran out this evening to scout a new area and the lake never disappoints. Beautiful area we will be coving soon.
@@BeyondHeadwaters went to Bass Pro today and was told that my boat is supposed to be prepped for shipping tomorrow ! If true it could arrive by the weekend which means I could have it next week! May be wandering around Fellesmere trying not to get lost a lot sooner than I thought ... what’s the current water temps on the lake?
@@theultimatesteelshooter8610 running in the high 60's. We are seeing that when the air temp climbs mid morning to early afternoon the bite tends to turn on. Until then stay deep.
Hey David, Happy New Year! That's awesome. If you don't find fish in one area keep moving around. You will find them and when you do stick to that area for a bit and be sure to work it really well. If they stop hitting on one bait try something else. Let us know how your trip turns out.
@@BeyondHeadwaters we did but with the storm front pushing in we left the lake around 1130 so we didn't get much time out there. S canal had a block near east west. Stayed in the northern half of the overall lake. Caught a few 2-4lbs and a decent size bowfin.
Merry Christmas to you as well. It is one of those easy to overlook areas. My guess is most folks have only really fished 10 percent of the lake. When you start exploring there are so many really cool areas out there.
I love you videos. They really help with the layout of the lake. If I can give you a suggestion. Get Google Earth Pro on a computer. Use that to look at the area of Headwaters Lake. With that application you can get satellite views of the lake. You can also go back in time. There are some great views from 2012, 2013, and 2014 before the lake was completely flooded. This gives you some idea about how that deep water is laid out. Furthermore, you can set pin marks in the application, export them, and convert them to Lowrance way points that can be uploaded to you depth finder. I've already got about 30 spots of interest ready to go. I just need to get down there. Again thanks for videos. I look forward to every one.
Really appreciate the feedback. Good idea on the Google Earth Pro. I have had it on my computer just did not think to use it for the videos. Will look into it for the next one. When you do get down here you will have a blast on the lake. Thanks again and Good Fishing !
Merry Christmas To You. we really appreciate the comments. We are going to keep working to get these videos as good as we can get them. Have a nice holiday week.
Hey Craig, You can access some decent fishing from the west bank of the lake. You can get to the road that runs along side of the lake by going to the stick marsh parking lot and then either walking or even better bring a bike and work your way south. Just keep an eye out for critters in the tall grass areas.
We suggest the Davis House Inn, in Sebastian, its about 20 minutes to the bait shop and 30 minutes to Headwaters. Ask for the Hook on Headwaters discount. Thanks for watching, we ask you to please subscribe. Fish well!
Hey Rob, Happy New Year to you as well. You should have a great time. The winds will be up a bit but so should the temperature which should have the bass active. Look for deeper clean water and you should be fine. I would even try a slow troll with a worm or a weighted hook with a soft plastic jerk bait. I have caught quite a few this way and it helps to locate fish. Best of luck and be sure to let us know how you make out.
@@BeyondHeadwaters we did go and had a good day..got a little windy towards the end..but not too bad..very crowded. used shiners and soft plastics (worms and jerk baits). Lost too many fish..and the big one 😥..but had 18 fish in the boat. Big fish 4.8, most on shiners. Went just a tad North of those islands you mentioned in this video. And the fish were laying in the deeper water coming into the shallower water in hydrilla(I love that stuff). Now I got a hankering to get back there before summer. And again-thank you for what you do..it helped us a lot
Barry - Dave Fantastic videos guys. Appreciate the info! Great way to get familiar with a new impoundment. When were you guys out there on this last one?
Hey Chris, We were out there on Monday from around 10 am and throughout the day. Holler at us if you see us out there. Merry Christmas and good fishing!
Thanks for the info.havent got there yet but soon.could I get directions to the ramp.i would be coming from tampa area.all I know is it's near fellers somewhere
Hey Chuck, You will have a great time at the lake. I would take HWY 60 east to 512 north to 507 ( Babcock St) north .Turn left onto Fellsmere grade road at the C54 canal , ramp on left 3 miles down.
Great video!! There is so much water to cover at Headwaters, it is nice to see this kind of detail on different areas!! I am loving this series of videos!!
Very much appreciate the comment. You are correct there is a lot to this lake. Every time Dave and are out there we run across something a little different which is what makes this such a fun lake to be on . Merry Christmas and Good Fishing!
Great Information. Your presentation is excellent too. According to your Lowrance water temp was 66 degrees, but with the colder temps on Friday 51/34 I assume you want to fish as deep as possible, right? If so, where are the deepest parts of the lake?
Hey Robb, Yes with the temp drop I expect they will be holding deep and slow to bite. As the temp rises through the day they will get a bit more active. Here is a link to the FWC map that shows the deep areas on the lake. myfwc.com/media/24685/fwfellsmeredepth.pdf Hope that helps. Happy Holidays!
@@rharan1 Lake Garcia on 512 in Fellsmere . Another good Bass lake. IF you are looking for another one holding big fish then three forks which is just north of Headwaters and the stick marsh is a good choice.
Great videos and info. Going to try to get there next week, during a week day. It's about a 100 mile trip from the West Palm area. Any updated info would be appreciated.
Happy New Year Curtis, Appreciate the comment. We should have another video up before you get up here. The holiday week has been busy with family but we should be back to our normal routine this coming week. Dave and I will be focusing on a different area of the lake to fish. Let us know how it goes.
@@BeyondHeadwaters Looks like we’ll be up there Thursday about 9:00. I know its going to be a cold morning so will look to go to some of the deeper hole and learn the lake.
Update, made it up there Thursday cold morning, water temp was 67, caught a few, scouted the lake, the area looks great. FWC was doing a catch survey and said a 9.2 was caught earlier. The only bad part of the day is the dirt road really sucks. I'll be back when truck already needs bath. lol
Great to find your channel. I’ve been fishing fellsmere for about 4 years out of a kayak. Last year made 2 week long trips and fished out of my honor pedal kayak. I’ve had some of the best fishing in my life there. Love to throw swim baits. Noticed fish turn on when the wind blows. Thinking of coming down in March. Do you suggest early or late March. Like to hit the spawn.
Hi David, I would suggest early March, even late February. It depends on our (Florida) weather...things can get hot (no pun intended) in terms of fishing during late February and into March around here. I also fish and guide out of my pedal kayak (blessed to do both fresh and inshore)...absolutely love it. I am a big swimbait fan...try white or blue back split tail flukes as well. Many thanks for subscribing and viewing our channel. ...pedal on and tight lines bro.
@@BeyondHeadwaters Also interested in targeting the shell cracker spawn. Do you have any experience with that at fellsmere ? Noticed a lot of talapia down there but never ran across brim spawning beds.
Hey Steve, have not targeted them. Stuart mentioned the tilapia coming from the lake by mistake. There are a lot of them around. Catfish are there but not in big numbers.
Have you ever seen so many boats at Headwaters they park rangers turn people away ? For the holidays do you suggest getting there 2-3 hours before first light to insure a parking spot?
I have not run into that situation yet. I mostly fish the weekdays. If I do go on a weekend I go after 10 am and can get a spot. With that being said I suspect there will be extra pressure this weekend with family coming to town with the idea of getting out with families that live here. If your coming in from out of town and can handle getting there earlier, then for the sake of ensuring you get a spot it may be worth doing so.
Water clarity has been pretty good in the areas we have been hitting. With polarized glasses I can see down 3 ft. In some of the more heavily traveled areas it is not as good.. Color wise I would say between a light and medium brewed tea favoring the lighter side. At least that is what I am seeing out there.
Hey Gene, RUn the S Canal to the East west canal to the 45 cut that would take you down to the Egan direction. Instead of taking the 45 just head straight south and when you run into the bank the area is to the east. Check out the East west canal video we did. At the beginning you will see where I mark out the 45 but you will also see where you can just head due south/. Stop the video at 1.01 and you will see the run ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_16tTFw90aw.html
LOL, thanks Monte, you will have a blast fishing this lake. We will keep kicking out video and you can hook up the 10 plus pounders. Let us know when you get to hit the lake and how you do. Ģood Fishing!
Not much. If it wasn't for the sawgrass islands with the deep cuts between them the whole area would be nothing but a submerged overgrown field. Some of the cuts have some small humps on them as they descend. Flats have the usual hydrilla on them. Hope that helps. Baitfish seem to like the area as well. See them quite often breaking the surface.
Hey Steve, I get the locals only thing as I was born and been here ever since. That being said when you have the big name Pros rolling in and filming with their film crews I can promise you that Dave and I are not the cause of overflowing parking lots. Our tax payer dollars in part paid for the lake, but tourism dollars are a big part of why we don't have a state tax which saves us a lot of money each year So I don't mind sharing the lake with fellow fisherman from around the country. At least to date I have never showed up to a slap full parking lot or gone home defeated by a fishless day. There are plenty of lakes to fish and like all of them the new will wear off and everyone will scatter back to their favorite spots.
@@BeyondHeadwaters It's a noble idea but you sure dont need to tell people where to fish, let them figure out like we had to. I fished this place for years before it opened, sure is a shame what it has turned into.
@@Rock_Nemo Not for nothing but if you know where the best spots are on the lake why are you checking out our videos? It's a big lake bud folks are coming in from around the country. I would rather lay out the lake so folks can get around with a purpose then then to be zigging and zagging all over the place tearing up the lake. Either way I would rather debate what the best lure to use is. IT's all good.
Hey Kenny, with a limit of 5 fish there is no way a catch and keep crowd could turn the tide of fish catching from really good to super slow in the few months the lake has been open to boats.. Most of the time you will find that it is the fishermen's ability to adapt to changing conditions that makes the difference between a productive and slow fishing day. Remember the lake opened to the public in late summer and until recently it has been a pretty specific pattern for finding fish. Now that the cool weather has set in the patters are changing so hitting the same spots with the same baits is not going to work as well as it has. There are plenty of guys out there loading up, the difference is they know how to adapt to charging conditions. Appreciate the comment and Good Fishing.
@@BeyondHeadwaters I haven’t been yet. I was going to try and come down New Year’s Eve and fish. My wife likes to catch not just fish and she went on the Facebook page and every other comment was either algae bloom or catch and keep crowd or 1lbers I’m still coming down just wanted to keep you informed like you do for us
@@kennyhaworth9606 Appreciate it Kenny, I would suggest darker colors such as June bug. Go with your favorite worm. Work them Sloooow. Dead stick them for a minute or so before starting to retrieve them back. IT is going to be windy so if you can find an easy bank you like then you should do ok. If you don't mind fishing wind blown waters then it is always a good bet to find fish along wind blown banks as they can be holding there for bait fish. Just talked to Dave this morning and he said it was really busy yesterday so you might want to wait until mid morning to show up to get a spot unless you are an early guy and don't mind waiting in the lineup before sunrise.
Hey Tim, Tough call on that one. If you know where the canals ae and how they run through the lake then no problem. AS long as you don't get blown into thick grass mats then you should be ok.
Hey Ralph, Yes you can run straight south into the area. It is a canal run mostly clean water. You can also run to the end of the S canal then continue south on the left side of the land, then hook to the west and you will run into the area as well ( hope that made sense).
