Sebastian Inlet is a mega fishery! Big Snook, Big Reds, and a host of huge Sharks and Tarpon. This 4 part video series shows you where to fish when you come down.

It is a beautiful Inlet. I rarely fish the jetties. I am usually alone on the surf, which is fine with me. Thanks.

They built much of that since I left in 87’. It was more rustic fishing but dynamite back then! (My first intro to no-see-ums) on my first Sebastian adventure!

Thanks John for doing this. Planning to visit for my 60th Birthday you given me lots of locations to choose from.

I covered all of the "spots" to stand on. Now it gets complicated. Well, not really. The techniques for fishing any inlet are the same. The Sebastian Inlet has a rocky bottom. This gives fish a lot of ambush cover and a great attachment point for a lure that scrapes the bottom. The opening to the sea has a shifting sand bottom with scattered large rocks. Touch base with me before you come down through the Sebastian Fishing Club's FB page.

Haven't visited Sebastian Inlet since long before it became a state park. That place is a beautiful area for everything... Except maybe boating through the inlet. Some days one would have a death wish, with currents so treacherous.

Thank you for posting these videos. I am planning a trip to the area in late September for a week. You laid the area out for me.

I will do that thanks. For the last 15 years I have fished the Port Orange area several times a year. (I am in WV) Excited about the trip to Sebastian.

If you want big Reds. Fish the shoreline directly adjacent to the camp grounds at night with cut or live bait. The best Kayak fishing is on the opposite North side of the Inlet area away from the inlet itself. Fish the canals and mangroves. OR, launch the kayak in the Pelican Island National Refuge, a little further South of the Inlet. Easy FREE access to canals and mangroves. There is a kayak launch area in the Pelican Refuge. Please note, that is not wise to navigate a kayak in the inlet area. Many boaters are not wary of other vessels. Florida does not require any safety course to drive a boat.

Great video. Can you please explain to a novice how the tides differ from the Inlet bridge versus the beach area near the bridge. I was told they are different times of the day.

Sure Alsky. Every Inlet has a tide lag. This lag is dependent upon the width and depth of the inlet and the volume of water that can fill the lagoon or bay. The Inlet is a choke point. The tidal difference is about 2 and 1/2 hours. Every Inlet has a similar lag time, some a bit longer and some a bit shorter. All of the water that fills the estuary, starts to flow back into the ocean as the tide falls. Here are two extreme examples. Use Google Earth to visualize them. Sandy Hook NJ one part of the opening to the Raritan Bay. The other opening is Coney Island, NY. That inlet is nearly 20 miles wide, and there is still a tide lag at Sandy Hook. Not a long lag time , but the water direction still lags. Now look at the Nauset Inlet between Chatham and Eastham in Cape Cod, MA. That natural Inlet is so narrow that at times one may try to cross it on foot. BUT! It gets really deep, really fast. The bay inside the Nauset inlet is comparatively small, yet it still lags by about 2 hours. If I fish the beach near the inlet at high tide, its still filling into the inlet due to momentum. It won't be slack tide at the bridge for another 2.5 hours. I hope that explains it without any calculus. I got a D in calculus anyway!

Great video. Are Sebastian inlet’s surrounding beaches accessible? Fishing from those beaches okay to do?
@visualedtech
@visualedtech 2 года назад
Thanks! Yes, there are many free parking, beach access areas, North and South along the coast. I have some maps on our Sebastian Fishing Club's FB page in the files section. Look us up and request membership. The FB group is open to all anglers interested in fishing in and around Sebastian. We have some excellent fly fishing anglers that fish the surf and backwaters on board. If you live nearby, we have a real life club that meets monthly. We try to get informative speakers and everyone is welcome. JJC

Sorry Rev, We all are distinct in this great country, but we are all Americans. My first exposure to America's diversity was in boot camp in 1969. We all learned how to cooperate and befriend each other whether we grew up on a farm or a city street. If it makes you feel any better, I don't even like the way I sound either, but I deal with it. Thanks
