Boom, boom, boom there’re everywhere! Great hike. Fun seeing the abundance of cacti. ~ Regarding ‘nurse rocks’ , (3:35), it’s always good to point out that they collect dew, when there is some, and it drips down and the seedlings may get a little moisture that way. Also of note is that the cactus spines are designed to shade the plant from the harsh, dehydrating sun. ~ (8:00) - A basic knowledge of the geology and mineral composition of the area one is botanizing is an indispensable aid in determining what species are likely to be growing there and where exactly. I’ve only begun to dive into geology but it’s already explained so much that up to recently was fairly mysterious. ~ I’m glad I found your channel and am looking forward to the undoubtably good times ahead in your quest.

LOVE OF PLANTS 🌻 thank you! Great comment! Soo true about the dew didn’t think of it. And yes I am learning and reading a bit more about the geology as it’s quite as fascinating as the plants frankly it’s all one big network. Thank you soo much for checking in! Any recommendations for reading on the topic?

@@CactusQuest - A good book to get an overview and introduction to geology and geobotany is ‘Geology and Plant Life : The Effects of Landforms and Rock Types on Plants’ by Arthur R. Kruckeberg. It’s been a while since I read it and I leant it and never got it back. I remember it being a well written and fairly easy for the layman, me, to understand. Maybe after that book you could get one that’s site specific like ‘ A Natural History of the Sonoran Desert’ , published by the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. ~ Sorry I didn’t respond earlier. I had to find the title to the first book.

When I was growing up into my ten years I used to hate growing up and living in the desert in Southern California. After developing a passion and love for cactus , agave and most succulents. I love living so close to to the natural state of tons of cactus and succulents. The best therapy that has helped in to many ways to count.

I love cactuses. Always have. I wish you'd show a larger variety when you're exploring. And show them a bit longer. Like where you are there are many varieties but we only see a few.

Wow - Thank you so much for this video - added something neat to my life! Really appreciate that. One thing, though: I would not give the coordinates. It only takes *one* person to do what you said not to do, and use your footage & coordinates to go and dig it up, and the cactus is gone. Too high a risk with so many viewers and public access to your material. Just saying. Protect the plants.
