Taking a deep dive into cleaning under the bobbin case, showing why it's so important to clean this area and a place you CAN oil on a machine with this system if you feel it needs it. I'm a Janome dealer and my husband is a machine tech and saved these parts so I could show them to you for a better understanding of the needs of your machine.
Hi! I’m Amy K Johnson, a Janome dealer and owner of Sew Simple of Lynchburg. That’s my brick and mortar quilt shop in Lynchburg VA, and home of AmyQuilts.com, my online shop and hub of all the tutorials, videos, and more that I share online.
I'm passionate about free motion quilting and was an early pioneer in the use of quilting rulers on a stationary sewing machine. I also do live quilting videos on my AmyQuilts Facebook page: / amyquilts and can also be found on FB at / sewsimpleoflynchburg
I love helping people master their Janome sewing machines and have a program at amyquilts.teac... that helps owners of certain Janome machines to use them with more confidence and greater creativity.
The AmyQuilts Sewing Clubhouse supports Janome models 15000, 14000, 12000, M7, 9450/9400, Skylines S9, S7, and S6, as well as the 8900 and 8200. The goal is help these owners use their machines fully with greater confidence and creativity, and also teaches techniques like getting the perfect 1/4 inch seam, applique, buttonholes, and free motion quilting.
You can learn more about this virtual Janome support here: amyquilts.teac...

Thank you Amy! I have a Memory Craft 6700 that was gifted to me when it was new! I’ve had the bobbin winder replaced but other than that it’s been a great machine. You’ve inspired me to get it in for service soon. It’s been a few years! And … I haven’t been oiling so will do that today and get it into the spa! Thx. I just found you sew I will be watching your other videos!

Thank you Amy. My machine instructions say not to oil, but a friend told me she put a little oil in that bobbin area, so I'd been doing that for a couple of years now. I do take the machine in for a service regularly though. Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to you and the family.

20 years ago I brought a 1981 singer computerized machine in to be serviced - but after paying and taking it home it still wasn't sewing right. And when I opened the bottom of the machine - it was filled with lint and dirt! I brought it back and he said he he had done the service himself. And he tried to open the the computerized top part. I asked him to stop! Opened the bottom and showed him the lint and dust. He backtracked and said - his technician had done the work. I asked for a refund... He balked. I said I wanted to talk to the manager. He refunded my $. Not all technicians know what they are doing and not are actually doing the work either! That disappointed me and then made me feel I don't have confidence that what I am paying for is being done! And it was expensive! Now we do not have a local sewing center or service center. Stores close, and at times stores hire unqualified people to work on the machine sales me sad that I cannot always trust to get what I paid for.

Well done. I do about a thousand sewing machine repairs/svc/year. The bobbin case clearance bracket (at 5 o'clock) is very easy to mangle and people do mangle it often. If that is damaged the machine won't work. I stopped selling oil to my customers. They were doing a lot of damage with it.

For my customers, we advise bringing the machine in annually for a full service. Many don't feel comfortable doing that level of maintenance, especially for the embroidery arm. Typically the home user won't work it so much that they need to do the arm multiple times a year. But I would encourage you to do under the bobbin case and the one felt at the top which is easy to get to.

hi I have a Janome S5 and my bobbin hook race part looks just like the one you have with the groove cut into it, I have no idea how it got that way, the machine is only 2 years old, I use Schmetz microtex sharp needles size 80/12 as that is the only needle type that works without having stitching/tension uneven stitching problems. . i have no idea how the groove occured but do you advise a different needle and/or getting this part replaced, i do keep up regular maintenance at the shop. thanks

Thanks for the video. I am one of those ppl dealer said you never need to oil to just use cleaner with 15000. Also the manual. So it is confusing when I see things like this. I have a bernina I oil every day lol. My stopper on Janome got replaced. I clean bobbin and race every change. I got it back full of lint! Like I couldn’t believe a dealer (different one) tech would send it back like that. Anyway so on 15000 is the cleaner actually oil?

Hi…what happens if the wick appears to be coming out! Can it be pushed back in or does it need serviced?

My Janome Skyline S5 keeps breaking the white piece under the bobbin case. I have mentioned to the repair person that the machine pulls to the left way too much. They never have a decent answer. I have paid for the service twice and had the plate replaced twice.
@AmyQuilts
@AmyQuilts 2 года назад
My hubby says it's one of 3 things, but we hate to have our answers used as ammo against another service person. So I will address the only one that could be 'user error'. If it's not this, let's just say you might want a different repair person who will know the other 2 machine possibilities and make the fix before replacing the plate. When looking at the broken plate, is it broken or worn through/scratched apart? This can happen when a needle isn't inserted fully up into it's position. In this case, it usually doesn't break the teflon-like material, instead the needle eventually scratches through. Pulling to the left is usually a presser foot pressure issue. Reduce it and see how it sews.
@mightymouse2098
@mightymouse2098 2 года назад
@@AmyQuilts Thank you so much for your reply. I did try the needle placement problem and yes because I have difficulty with my right hand I believe it was not installed properly. I checked the needle position like you showed and it touched the white plate. I got help from my husband and wala the needle is good now. I do not blame repair persons because they can only identify the problem at hand and replace the part. THANK YOU AMY

Thank you for this video Amy! What is the brand of the oil that you use?
@AmyQuilts
@AmyQuilts Год назад
In the shop we use Lily White Sewing machine oil as we can buy it in bulk and we go through a LOT of it on people's machines. But customers don't need a lot between services so we sell the Zoom Spout oiler. Has a nice long spout and plenty of clear sewing machine oil. Clear, colorless sewing machine oil is what you want.

Excellent video, do you have any idea why my bobbin case is wearing down so quickly and leaving a black film over the bobbin race? I’ve had to change it twice in six months
@AmyQuilts
@AmyQuilts 2 года назад
Is it a Janome? Black film makes me think of maybe you're using a solvent like 3 in 1 oil instead of a sewing machine oil. Not a typical issue for sure!
@lparnell5693
@lparnell5693 2 года назад
@@AmyQuilts it’s a sewing machine oil. The film is the worn down residue that you get when metal wears down I just don’t know why it’s doing it. When the thread weaves between the bobbin holder and the race it picks up the residue and turns the thread black. Very confused as to why it’s happening

Liliana, my machine is about 7 years old and the red dot wore off. Best to give the case a little wiggle as Amy does so you can tell that it's seated properly.

@AmyQuilts

As I said in the video, it depends on how much you use it and what you sew. If the wick looks dry and white, it needs oil. Don't forget to take your machine into your dealer for preventative maintenance annually.
