I love her she’s so beautiful! I’ve learned a lot on the channel skin is my passion and what I would love to pursue as a career and she’s one of the people that makes me want to do it even more! ❤
I'm currently doing this. I just couldn't tolerate tretinoin at .02. Not even 3x per week. I have acne. So my acne was not getting any better. So I decided to start with retinol at .3, .5, then currently retinaldehyde .05, then going to alternate with retinaldehyde .1. Then going to start introducing tretinoin again. My acne is improving a little. Just have to accept what your skin can tolerate and start from there.
There is also a retinaldehyde 0.2 from the ordinary, by the way. I think it's currently the strongest over the counter, which might be a another step you can throw in there before tretinoin. It's only 15 mL, so it's probably about the right size for you to use to bridge the gap.
I started on 0.025% tret without using retinol about a month and a half ago. I was too impatient to build up tolerance to it over a year or more. Been using tret 3-4 times a week, now moving to 5 days a week. I've thankfully not had any issues so far but not really seen any changes in my skin either. I rarely get acne but mostly using it for ageing so I guess I need to give it a lot more time.
This is exactly what I did. I used OTC retinol products for several years. Then I moved to a retinal product that was much stronger for 6 months. Now I am on the lowest strength Tretinoin every 3 nights, and have had ZERO issues. NONE! I've already started to use it every other night!! That stuff is magic!
@@ChandlerMuriBing I’m 60, which many say is late. But I went by how my skin was aging. Both my mother and grandmother had very smooth, wrinkle free skin, so I was lucky to inherit their genes! What I do have is some crepey, thinning skin. I can say I saw an improvement in my skin after just a week of using the lowest strength Tretinoin! My favorite OTC product is the Scinic Cicanoid Retinal Cream (I buy it from Stylevana.) It is the strongest OTC retinoid product because it is a retinAl, with an “a.”
@@Patti-1962 What is the percentage? I know that this comment is a year old, but a couple months ago The Ordinary came out with a Retinal that is 0.2 that I have heard called the strongest OTC currently.
@@TryMyMartini That’s amazing that TO has come out with a retinal that strong! Before I used a retinal from Scinic, a Korean brand, that was .5% before moving to Tretinoin .025. It was a seamless move to a prescription product, as I didn’t have any dryness or peeling! I use it almost every night now, and my wrinkles are gone. I used to have forehead lines, but they have disappeared. I haven’t ever had acne, but if I did, I would be moving up to a stronger Tretinoin prescription! I pay $35 for a 45 gram tube with Good RX, so it is actually cheaper than The Ordinary’s product which is around $14 for 15 grams. But it’s amazing that it is available OTC!!
Excellent advice. Curious to know if there is a full length video on how to properly use tretinoin or RetinA on this channel? Especially a video that the info begins with the very first time you are going to use this product, how to use skincare in conjunction with a retinoid, hopefully along with some hacks, tips and tricks too. Yes, I realize that this video was posted a very long time ago but I’m new to this channel and prescription retinoids. Thank you in advance ❤
Would using adapalene/differin be a good stepping stone to build up from retinol to tretinoin for anti-aging? I’m currently using retinol but want to build tolerance
I did that since differin didn't work for me for acne. I use the sandwich method and I never had a problem, I still use that and can use it every night no problem. In summer I can put it on over just serumsa couple of nights a week. Definitely not in winter though.
This is what I’m doing now. I have sensitive skin and started with the Naturium 0.05% just a few days a week. I’ve worked my way up to the 0.10% everyday now, but I still can’t use it on my neck.
I used Differin for awhile, but it was giving me contact dermatitis on my chest/neck from spreading down while sleeping. Then I was switched to Duac gel- no problems, but expensive because it expires so fast. Then I was put on Ziana, but that I couldn't use everyday- every other day at the most, even with heavy moisturizer. Fast forward to Covid, and having to wear an N95 for months at work gave me so much acne issues. Still couldn't use Ziana every day, and only using it every other wasn't cutting it. So, I kept adding things to my routine until it worked, and I got to the point where I had a triple cleanse routine when I got off work, plus a retinoid, eye cream, and heavier moisturizer during my "day" (I work nights). FYI- I have combination skin with a very oily T zone, and the mask acne was causing breakouts on chin, nose, and cheeks. in the shower- 1- wash face, ears, and neck with Sebamed pH balanced cleansing bar while doing first shampoo. rinse. 2- salicylic face wash or scrub while doing second shampoo and washing body. rinse. 3- Cerave foaming cleanser with benzoyl peroxide while letting conditioner sit. rinse. Then it was Cereve under-eye cream and resurfacing retinol serum before bed. Then when I got up, wash face with Basis facial bar and apply Cerave ultra lightweight PM moisturizing cream (still heavier than the neutrogena combination skin lotion I used before) and head to work.
My dermatologist gave me 0.05% twice a week as a start. I do not have pimples. I used a skincare that has 0.025% of retinol for 12 years. Do you think she gave me the right dosage doctor? Thank you!
Is there something wrong with my skin? I have never had any reaction to retinol. The first time I used OTC I was like 25, I felt like it did an amazing job of renewing my skin, I had a pimple that was almost completely dried out and gone the next morning. My skin looked great. I continued using OTC retinols on and off throughout my twenties and decided to see a derm for tret recently. I went through apostrophe and they started me on .025 strength. I did have a little dryness and tingling initially but no inflammation. When I use it daily I get a little tightness in my skin throughout the day. I get wayyyy more of a reaction to regular use of niacinimide or I get an INTENSE burning and dryness reaction when I use a sulfur cleanser (your recommendation) it does not like my skin and I can’t use it like a mask. But I have literally never dealt with shedding, purging, pain, redness or intense dryness from retinol. Just mild dry patchiness around my mouth and that’s only occasionally. Is my skin just like not normal? And should I increase my strength? For the record I have never had dry or sensitive skin. I’m 31 and I’ve always been told I look way younger than my age. A girl the other day thought I was 19, but I usually hear early twenties. I’d say my skin is combination? It’s not super oily but I get mild acne around my cheeks, and occasionally forehead, chin and jawline. It’s always very mild but I ALWAYS have some form of acne present even though it’s slight. Most commonly cheeks and above my lips.
Omg! Your text almost sounded like it was me talking about my skin. Niacinamide doesn't work for me too. And yes, avoid exfoliating actives in ur evening routine if u are going to be on tretinoin. Maybe use calming actives like allantoin , panthenol green tea, centella asiatica or cica etc on ur skin to pair with tretinoin. And upgrade to a fatty moisturiser if ur skin gets too dry. From what I heard, u can upgrade to tretinoin 0.5, but it's not really required until u hit ur 40s or late 30s. . . Esp if you are also exfoliating once weekly. U cud instead add peptides or other actives that work synergistically with retinoids.
I started with retinol but it gave me redness and irritation. Then I tried retinalydehyde the geek and gorgeous one. It gave me red bumps and didn't seem to budge my cc's. Switched to adapalene, yes it gave me redness, it made me purge but it improved my skin texture and made my skin plump.
My dermatologist started me at prescription percentage .25. I’ve been at this strength for going on 8 months .. with no visible improvement. Should I continue at this strength, or go down in strength.
It’s weird but I’ve been using tretinoin for the last two years and never had a reaction just using it twice a week but then I bought retinol from roc and got acne :/
Hey, I'm using tretinoin 0.025% since last 8 months and my skin is now used too with every night application. So can I now move up to higher strength of 0.05%? Or should I wait till it's one year? Please help me. I'm a bit confused about it
I’m in my 30s and have been on 0.025% for nearly 18 months all good. But then the concentration discontinued in my country. Since results from all concentrations plateau after a year, should I just switch to 0.01% (still available) or go up to 0.04% and dilute with a moisturizer.
Its my day 4 of using tretinoin 0.05% i have no irritation, burns nor itching. I dont know if its good or bad. 😅 EDIT: Update - its been 8 months of using tret my face was starting to change and glow but all of a sudden out of nowhere I started getting irritated, I have burns and its itchy plus purging 😫🤦🏾♀️ what might be wrong? It's like I'm back to where I started.
@adhityamp650 it's been a month, my face is burning, my lip area is dark due to the burn. 😂 I started thinking of the side effects too early. My face hasn't changed though (just a bit) but I'm still patient
Yeah u just have to use it three times a week and using consistently and you'll get the best results 😁and if u think 0.05 is too irritating try to switch to 0.025👍
You can.. but would definitely buffer with a moisturizer since that skin is more sensitive to it!! I’ve recently started treating arms and chest! I had retinol burn (didn’t hurt) the next day so that’s when I started mixing tret with moisturizer and it’s all good! Hope that helps❤
I disagree. I have very sensitive skin and I have been on the lowest 0.25% of tretinoin with no issues! I have never used retinol before. I love it and look forward to bumping up in strength in the future!
@@oneandonly3139 I just bought an appointment with the new dermatologist and I was able to get it prescribed. I have CIGNA healthcare and with my health insurance it’s like two dollars.
with adapalene, which i have prescription for and tolerate really well, can I get the same benefits, or any anti-aging effect? internet is ambivalent on that
My skin is now used to the .3% CeraVe retinol, and I’m about to jump to tretinoin. I’m now thinking I should use a stronger OTC retinol first? Or maybe just going slowly with the tretinoin is sufficient…
Should be able to. I use tret and I'm fine as long as I use the sandwich method otherwise my skin gets too dry. Actually helped a little with my redness
Ive been using a product that have hydroquinone(2%), tretinoin (0.025%)& Mometasone(0.1%) for a month now. Someone said i can't use this for long time. I wanna know is it okay to use this product for long time? If its suitable for me? Also mostly because here i can't find only tretinoin anywhere. This type of producta are available.
Hello, can you please clear one thing for me, if I use teritonin for long time, then does it have any kind of side effects? I am confused because somewhere I read it that prolonged use of teritonin can cause harm to your body, please give your valuable advice ❤
@@pingu3984 you when I was 11 my Derm gave me 0.025% which I’m pretty sure is the lowest you can get. I didn’t really know what it was when I got it so I just used it every night and had no reaction, no purging.
I used differin gel, it was also great to help maintain my skin but then it stopped working. I’m looking forward to get a tretnoin now. Idk if my skin will get use to it cuz it’s been 5 months I quit differin gel
@@khankareeb5232 I used differin for 1 year before I stopped seeing results from it. I transitioned to 0.025% Tretinoin after taking a break from differin for around five months. Tretinoin was actually less irritating to my skin than differin! I experienced lots of flaking around my chin with differin that seemed to never stop and I didn’t have that problem at all with Tretinoin. Everyone’s reactions are different but I hope my experience with both helps you🤗
Would you recommend “sticking” to a certain strength until you reach a certain age? I’m working my way up to using 1% retinol more often in the week but I’m not even 30 so I don’t want it to get less effective over time… or will the skin continue reaping the benefits no matter how long it’s been used
