Great video! I just found your videos. I like the style they are filmed in. Thanks for your advice, it's exactly what I needed. I was looking for an area to travel with my family(preteens), and Colonia Americana sounds good. I wasn't aware that el centro might be great for strolling at night. I will check out your ebook.
I would describe Santa Teresita as more Bohemian and artsy than Colonia Americana, which is more trendy and full of young people and tourists with money. Chapultepec runs down the center of Americana (only slightly west of center), and is the most tourist oriented strip lined with clubs, bars, and overpriced mediocre restaurants. The far west side of Americana has become a fairly high end restaurant zone, bougie not bohemian. Arcos Vallarta to the west of Americana gets more laid back, still with plenty of cafes and restaurants. Chapalita is another nice walkable residential neighborhood with good cafes and restaurants, and a popular weekend art fair. Providencia’s biggest draw is the huge park Bosque los Colomos, but it also has the new high end Midtown mall and Punto Sao Paulo caters to professionals with money with nice hotels and restaurants. This area is experiencing a boom of new high end apartment building construction. Puerto de Hierro is a shiny new modern American style area featuring Andares mall with a nice trendy food court and chain restaurants, as well as good private hospitals for medical tourism. Guadalupe neighborhood might be too far out for most tourists, but worth considering for those on a budget looking for an unpretentious yet safe area. It has the large Parque Metropolitano which is perfect for dog owners (considering that dogs aren’t allowed in Colomos). Most first time tourists will likely want to stay in the center of Tlaquepaque, although that area gets scruffy pretty fast as you get away from the tourist center.
Previously it was not safe, but in recent years many changes have been made that have improved it. But it is better to stay in a hotel for just a few days than to live there.
Cab!!! Since the airport is out of the city, take a little bit to get a Uber. It costs around 20 dollars! But if you do not have a problem waiting then, get an Uber.
Zapopan is the best area in all of Guadalajara. The best Restaurants, The Best Nightclubs, The Best Shopping Centers, The richest areas are there. It's very safe!
