You are an absolute wealth of knowledge and a mind reader to boot. I have been mulling around all the info on acids and getting so confused. Your video has cleared up all my questions on acids and helped me to make an informed decision. Thank you ....thank you ...thank you. ( never miss a video , by the way)
I think the RMS highlighters that have been really popular are definitely causing skin texture. It has a very high content of coconut oil and other thick ingredients.
@@CS-ow4gl hey Does azelaic acid good for close conmedognic acne ? I have close conmedogonic acne all over my face that's skin clr and when I pop them something white came out (eww) ..
I’ve never heard anyone explain salicylic acid the way you did in this video. Thank you. Even though I’m 59, I have lots of congestion in my cheeks and find the Paula’s Choice BHA Liquid is so good for clearing my skin.
I actually found the Ordinary's lactic acid to be just as good as the Sunday Riley's good genes. I found that the Sunday Riley was decent (used up 2 bottles), but wasn't doing enough for the price.
Azelaic acid - if you have those acne who occur once a month but it takes you a 15-20 days to get rid of them because they are never ever "ripe" enough to extract , go to your pharmacy and get it ! Best buy of last year !
Hi Nadine, I am using Dr Dennis Gross Alpha beta universal daily peel. It's a 2 step process & comes in individual packets. So basically after cleansing & toning you wipe the pad on your face that says exfoliate & then wait for 2 min & then use the step 2 which is an anti aging neutralizer pad. It's got salicylic, glycolic, citric, lactic & malic acid. I luv these pads as I luv individually wrapped things because they are so convenient to carry everywhere.
Can’t live without Biologique Recherche's P50 1970 - pricey but for me worth it! Also use Sunday Riley Good Genes. I’ve got mature skin and both products make a difference - I don’t use them together - I alternate.
I’ve used Paula’s Choice for years. I will keep it, but NeoStrada is on my shopping list. Thank you for all your information. There are so many great products out there, we need all the help we can get to decide ❤️
Great topic! I am currently trying Neostrata’s Ultra Moisturizing Face Cream 10 PHA and really loving it. When you apply it, it does not feel particularly moisturizing, but the next morning your face feels like a babies bottom. It works best when used alone. I have been trying The Ordinary’s Mandelic Acid 10% and it works nicely as well. My go to daily favorite is The Ordinary’s Azelaic Acid 10%. I have been using this one for quite a while and it has done wonders for my sensitive, facial vein prone skin! I may continue to stick to these three products-but will be trying Neostrata’s Bionic formulation to compare its performance on my skin. Thanks so much! 😊
Hi Nadine! Have been binge watching your latest videos, love your approach to skin care. This is a wonderful & informative session on acids. I wanted to ask how you rotate your acids and retinol? You said you like to use acids at night, can't imagine using both an AHA and my retinol. I have rosacea so that area of my skin is super sensitive while the rest of my face can take almost anything. These acids do radiate so if I apply a stronger acid to certain areas, eventually the rosacea will be affected. It's a struggle. Keep on spreading the good information. There is so much misinformation out there, we need trusted sources!
Dear Nadine, 2 questions: 1. What one should not use in combination with acids? (Peptides?) 2. Are you recommending to keep your cleanser for 5 minutes before rinsing it for acids to work? Mine is prone to break outs around my jaws and occasionally on the forehead and my dermatologist prescribed a combination of Biologique Recherche and Zein Obagi products that all contain salicylic acids Thank you!
Nadine thankyou so so much for this. I rarely get breakouts on my face but my back and chest do and I was so glad to hear you cover this. Such an in-depth video that will have helped so many 😘
Thank you for the simple explanation, really helpful in the minefield of acids. I would be interested in a hyrauloronic, ferulic and asorbic acid too please. Also you put probiotics on your skin? Would love to hear more. Thank you xx
yes!!!! Please speak on the highlighters and primers!!! I do not think it's a coincidence people are getting 'texture' right where their highlight is!!
I am pretty new to the skincare scene. The first brand I tried about 2 years ago was juice beauty.. Some things worked ok, but their moisturizers just sat on top of my skin and I just wanted to wash it off. They also rely on a lot of fruit acids, which I think were irritating my skin. I always felt like I was going back and forth between treating dry skin and treating breakouts. I realized eventually that all natural and organic isn't really the way to go with skincare. My 2 favourite brands right now are paula's choice and first aid beauty. I am currently suffering what I think is an irritation breakout from trying to layer too many products. FYI the travel size for paulas choice 2% bha perfecting liquid is a full 1oz of product and it's under $10. I tried retinol for the 1st time earlier this week, pc's travel size 1% retinol is $11. I mixed it with lotion, but still my skin is super mad at me.. Even washing my face with only water makes it feel tight and uncomfortable. Currently I've been using the pc wrinkle defense with retinol serum..with FAB lotion, sometimes cream if I am super dry... Hopefully my skin will chill the heck out. I'm 27 and just now starting to see some forehead wrinkles, and spider veins on my cheeks, so I figure it's time to take action! PC is expensive, but for what it is I think they're on the more affordable side of clinically proven skincare.
I’ve used Zelens PHA pads and while they were affective it made my skin a little sensitive. Still haven’t found anything better for me than Glow Tonic and Alpha H liquid gold. I do love the Ameliorate body lotion with lactic acid so thanks for the recommendation!
So my question is.... which acids can you use together? Are you supposed to choose one that suits your skintype, use them on different days or can you just “mix and match”? Then of course comes the question of how to use them combined with retinols and/or alpha arbutin, niaciamide and so on..... Phew, it truly is a jungle out there. Thank you for your great videos!
PSA for anyone who loves the Paula's Choice 2% BHA liquid but would like to spend less - I finally found a dupe: Cosrx Blackhead Power Liquid. It's half the price, a nice formulation, and it gets the job done. (I've used the PC for like 15 years, started back when it cost like $13 USD. Still worth the current $29 price tag but I'm broke and it's great that someone FINALLY made something that's as good.)
Hi Nadine, I was surprised you didn’t mention DCL’s Multi-Action Penta Peel pads. They contain such a good mix of acids. I leave them on for longer than 2 minutes recommended, but I also don’t use them more than a couple of times a week.
Thank you Nadine! I actually feel I have an understanding of these acids now! Going to try some of your recommendations as my skin requires a little more effort these days x
Hi Nadine. I developed an allergy to glycolic about 6 months ago and it is now just too much for my skin which develops irritated, eczema patches when I use it. Lactic is much gentler and my absolute favourite outside of Lotion P50 is the PHA/AHA by Lixir Skin. It is super effective and leaves my skin glowing but is not irritating at all. I highly recommend this acid plus the Vitamin C Paste.
You're amazing, Nadine, with the amount of stuff you know and how quickly it all comes out of your mouth! Goals. I'm really loving Paula's Choice CALM Redness Relief 1% BHA Lotion Exfoliant. I've been using it twice a week. Any more than that would be too much.
Have you tried acids from Korean Brands? I would love to hear your take on that, especially Cosrx, Benton and Klairs. Thank you for posting this is really helpful ♥️
Mónica Santos Those brands are great. I have used BHA liquid from CosRx and Galactomices for whiter, brighter skin and loved them. Also The Ordinary has great products for better prices.
LAVINIA NEGRU thank you for your answer. I was thinking about Cosrx BHA, it’s not that I have big issues but I have sensitive skin and mild rosacea, so I need something kinda gentle... but I use Glycolic Acid from The Ordinary and it doesn’t irritate my skin (love it) 😉
Thank you so much, I even took notes and have literally just purchased Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA. I’ve been looking into NeoStrata products, but wasn’t sure where to buy them from, so the links are helpful for future purchases.
Oligophilic isn't a word and azelaic acid isn't an AHA. Other than that I loved the information, product recommendations and your delivery. I'm subscribed.
Just discovered your channel and am retrospectively watching your past videos! Brilliant , really enjoying it . You look amazing by the way . You have already convinced me to order the Dafni straightener brush . 🤣
I love your videos and the amount of research you include. I love using a lactic acid bc they are as irritating to me as glycolic. Sunday Riley’s good genes is AMAZING, but if you’re on a budget, like me, then I love the ordinarys formulation. Also Sunday Riley UFO oil is a great oil featuring salicylic acid that won’t dry out your skin but will really help with break outs.
Hello, I just found your channel yesterday and I have been watching you non stop. You are very thorough and clear. Thank you for teaching us. I would like to ask you please if you could do a video about 'marketing words' on skin care products. Examples: synonyms for AHA, BHA, salicylic, etc... I have heard that skin care companies would use synonyms to bump the price of their products and we can find dupes but we have to look into the ingredients. Please teach us more on this topic.
My skin has been through so much.. I still feel I'm not necessarily using the right products when it comes to a cleanser and toner. I believe I have combo skin? I have hormonal acne and I have been on Accutane before. I believe was a year and a half to 2 years after treatment stopped, it pretty much came back. I had bad cystic acne and some of them even looked like purple welts. I have been wanting to find my holy grail and my skin has cleared up a whole lot. However, I do have the monthly "breakout" and its annoying to have a never ending cycle of trying to get rid of acne and the marks they leave behind... I just started using Cera-ve salicylic acid cleanser 2%. My reason behind that is all the products I use for my skincare routine at night- I feel my skin will become less breathable, even if they are non-commodogenic. I then use a glycolic acid 7% toner by The Ordinary. Then I use a serum, eye cream, moisturizer and then an oil to seal it all in. I did some research and read that you could use salicylic and glycolic together, only if you don't have sensitive skin? I have been at this acne journey for almost 10 years.. I'm 25 and I see barely some fine lines under my eyes and the fine laugh lines. I wanted to get rid of these fine lines and acne at the same time. Hence why I was wanting to pair the acids together. Am I an idiot for doing this? lol I would love some wisdom.
I found that my skin improved massively and my breakouts stopped once I stopped using any soap or foaming products on my face. I now only use cream cleansers- right now I use a plain moisturiser base to cleanse (massage in to damp skin, clean off with a hot cloth) the same cream again to moisturize. I had a couple more spots pop up when I first changed from foaming cleansers but now I only get a couple of small spots a month- usually due to hormones. I'm going to try some glycolic acid added to my cream base to help exfoliate too but I like to use pineapple too :)
Hi Nadine Fantastic video! I'm was thrilled that you've included Neostrata polyglycolic & lactobionic acids...im currently using Neostrata cellular restoration once a week in the evening and the Ordinary hah&bha twice a month.
Absolutely LOVE your channel! You introduced me to retinol, vitamin c, Deciem etc.. and I've never looked back. Wanted to ask a couple of things: Where does lactic acid fit, before or after retinol? Can you layer two acids? E.g my nightime routine is cleanse, ordinary glycolic acid, niod copper, niod hyloronic acids, paulas choice 1% retinol, niod hydration vaccine, then moisruriser. Am I layering these right, and where can I fit in my good genes lactic acid? My daytime routine is the same minus the glycolic acid and retinol. And what is your opinion on the new Kiehls vitamin c as I'm in the market for a new one because my drunk elephant c-firma kept breaking me out. Sorry for all the questions, I just love skincare and value your advice so much. Xxx
Great video 👍 I’m in my 30s and I absolutely love glycolic acid. I remember my mom always using it and her telling me it would keep me looking young longer. She was right! 😁
Paula's Choice makes the best BHA/Salicylic products - if you're interested in that acid, look no further. There are liquid, gel, foam and lotion textures - something for everyone. The Azelaic Acid market is much smaller - I use prescription Finacea and it's far superior than MetroGel for rosacea.
Such a great video!! Would be interested in one about hyaluronic absorbic acids too as mentioned in the description. I don’t know if you’ve done one but I can’t see it x
Brilliant! This is quite thorough, thank you very much, Nadine. What about LHA (lipo hydroxy acid) and tranexemic acids? I recently bought LRP Effaclar duo and toner and but I'm not seeing much results on my acne combination aging skin although I use salicylic, lactic, kojic and glycolic acids. Looking forward to your next video. Happy New Year!
Years ago I tried rinsing my face in water with a soluble aspirin in it when I had a spotty face - sore red bumps, no head - to soothe it. It worked. My question is should you avoid salicylic acid if you have an allergy to aspirin or asthma?
yes nadine! i never get spots or bumps on any other part of my face other than my chin and jaw line but since wearing powder highlighters i get little bumps on my cheek bones and my pores seem bigger so i have stopped using them
personally i think putting highlighters on often clogs your because the specks of shimmer are clogging them i all so find no matter how much i remove my make up there will still be specks of shimmer left on my face which again would clog pores ... that's just my theory as i'm 24 and have dry skin but take really good care of my skin i never had any visible pores until i started wearing powder highlighters daily. i find cream highlighters don't give me any bumps though oddly i think its because powder highlighters are so packed full of shimmer wheres creams tend to have less glitter/shimmer and more of a wet look glossy sheen
+ HermitThefrog AHAAA, of course = the bits of glitter ! Also, I think that you are right about the powder being worse than the creams . Thanks for pointing this pout to me 👍🏻😉
Cor! Bloody brilliant! I need to go back and take notes! So yes, question - if you had: older skin, with melasma, hyperpigmentation, age spots AND fine lines and wrinkles (and you'd tried Vit C + E + Ferrulic and it just made matters far worse)...what acid/skin regime would you be looking at? Haha, that's not a small question, sorry! Thanks so much for making this, Nadine x
nikita gupta the Neostrata lightening gel listed above x look www.effortlessskin.com/p-4086-enlighten-pigment-lightening-gel-20ml.aspx?alndg=c025b7136b31&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIoNGplrGr2gIVSLHtCh0NJQpHEAAYASAAEgLCsPD_BwE
Thank you for this video, it’s come at the right time for me! I use AHA regularly but these last few weeks it’s brought out pimples on my skin 🙈 so gonna try a BHA x
First of all, love your videos and am so happy to find someone my age who has great skincare advice. Here's my question - I've been using Retinol .2% in Squalane in the evening followed by Rose Hip Oil. I just purchased Lactic Acid 10%. Should I alternate the Retinol and Lactic Acid? I can't use them both on same night, can I? Thanks!
I’ve tried using the pixi glow tonic twice now and it leaves me feeling like I have windburn. I’m finding I have sensitive skin but a ruddy uneven complexion :: any recommendations to help with uneven skin tone that won’t burn my face? Love your videos - learning so much!!!!!!!
