My son tried both. He had better success with the Tenex. He's also tried Intuniv, but I didn't see much improvement at all.

I hallucinated on straterra but guanfacine was amazing for impulsivity, frustration and aggression, wild thoughts, and anxiety. However it made my daydreaming worse (and in more vibrant colors) and my sense of urgency to do anything is dead.

I've taken strattera at age 18-19 and 36-38. Mild side effects and modest at best efficacy. Currently taking 10mg dextroamphetamine IR 2x daily but not sleeping well and improvement is modest at best. I'm going to ask my psychiatrist about Intuniv this week. I have the polymorphism C/C for the ADRA2A gene which indicates reduced alpha2A function. Seems to me that guanfacine is worth a try based upon that alone based upon my understanding but this isn't my field. Had methylphenidate for most of my childhood with bad side effects. Seems that you can make plenty of Norepinephrine available but if the alpha2A post synaptic receptor isn't working well it isn't going to result in improvements in executive function.

Thanks so much for this video. I’m currently starting on stimulants but they’re not really working that well for me to control symptoms. I’m working with my psychiatrist to titrate and see if that may help. Knowing more about the non-stimulants as a fallback option is good, so thanks again

I think Intuniv is the brand name for Guanfacine extended release for ADHD.

I have to start these because my doctor won’t give me a prescription for real ADHD meds until I try these first. It’s frustrating, because I’m very tired of hearing people who grew up rich and diagnosed younger saying how they had immediate relief from Adderall and were able to focus. That’s all I want. To focus and accomplish being a functional person. Now rich people take up all the meds that many of us need to survive. I hate the classist healthcare system of us late diagnosed adults who didn’t grow up rich being denied healthcare and the rich kids being grandfathered in. Nepotism has ruined everything in the US. It needs to stop . The hierarchy and prejudice needs to stop. Anti- depressant don’t work on me because I have autism. My depression is caused by neurotypicals treating me badly and excluding me from life. Until that changes, I will still be depressed but numbed from medication to make THeM feel more comfortable 😢 It’s all BS. Unless you are struggling daily, please don’t use up all the Adderall. Also to companies, make enough medication. I don’t understand the shortage issue. How do we have enough gas for environmental haters who driver SUVs but not meds for people who need them? We made vaccines for all.

With all due respect it's silly to say that rich people are using all of the medication so that people aren't Rich can't get it. Don't fall for this victim mentality.

These medications can be just as good or better. Try them out. Not everything that is cheaper is always worse. These have way less side effects then the "richer" medications and they pack a punch.

Look up all the side effects of stimulants. Especially the long term effects. They’re terrible. Stimulants aren’t the way to go. Most people just abuse them anyway because you can get a high/rush off them

@@ent1311I don't think you understood their point. Which was basically "rich people bad"

3 days on tenex and my vision went blurry, got shortness of breath, just like when I had high blood pressure medication improperly prescribed a decade prior. Discontinued and shortness of breath went away. 2 months later my vision is still blurred but slowly improving. Maybe we should take medications meant for the thing we are presenting to the idiot doctors for instead of 2nd and 3rd line meds meant for one issue but used for a second issue.

I have a question I’ve been prescribed extended release guafacine, culturally I have high fat diet, and have weight issues of being underweight and I can’t really diet. And I researched that it’s an issue ,but I want to know is if you are taking the pill when it’s time to take it, that we should avoid foods that are high fat or to avoid it in general when being on the drug?

No if anything you’d experience ADHD symptom remission quicker. However atomoxetine is literally the worst approved drug for ADHD. Both Intuniv and Kapvay (non-stimulant alpha-2 agonists) are proven to be more effective than atomoxetine. Also according to user reviews they both are rated higher than atomoxetine. I started 40mg atomoxetine 2 weeks ago and haven’t noticed literally anything besides the fact that im sweating 24/7 now.

@@johnmoore1495I’ve been Atomoxitine for a little over 5 weeks now. Have some weird side effects so I’m considering switching to Guanfacine. Did you ever end up trying Guanfacine or are you still taking the Atomoxitine?
