I just bought a 2021 Grizzly and I want to thank you for this video. I have a ranch, but live in the mountains of Idaho. I purchased the Grizzly because of it's wider stance, good riding position and snow plowing ability. Our ranch is 4,500 feet in altitude and we live on a mountain. The Grizzly seems to handle all the tasks with ease. I had a Yamaha 350cc Big Bear and it has provided unfailing service since we purchased it in 1989....just a bit underpowered for the snow as climate change over the years have turned the powder snow to mashed potatoes....very heavy and you need to plow it immediately, or it turns to ice. The Grizzly was up to the task and we're glad we settled on it. Informative and useful video...thanks.
Thanks for posting the video. of course I still not sure witch way to go. I got my eye on a 2022 Kodiak 700 eps and a 2022 grizzly XTR. I really like the looks of the XTR ,But i think the zilla tires will be more tire than I need. I mostly do choirs and hunting with some trail riding . I have a 2011 grizzly 550 . I been very happy with that and it is about the size of the Kodiak .with higher seat. One thing i been unable to find out are both seats the same height from the foot peg? I know the Kodiak is lower to ground But some of this is from the inch smaller tires.
I own both a 2021 kodiak 700 EPS and a Grizzly 700 EPS, in my opinion if you like quick acceleration and to be able to do wheelies and jump over bumps and ride a little more aggressive and your over 6 ft get the grizzly, it's a blast to ride just burp the throttle and wheelie with ease 😀 the grizzly rides way better than the kodiak and is way more responsive. The kodiak is a great machine and just changing it to grizzly clutch weights it would be more responsive but still not ride like the grizzly. The grizzly has taller bars and seat and wider A arms. Overall it's bigger. As far as running lean it's just hype. I had a 2019 and now 2021 and they never popped or ran hot. I did do the AIS delete but don't know how much it helps. I put on a EHS tuner and they run way to rich and foul plugs so I put them back to stock and they run great with no problems. I use my 4wheeler for hunting and some trail riding and both are great machines but I personally prefer the grizzly. I wouldn't waste my money on the tx-r because i like 12 inch wheels for more sidewall but I did put zillas on both machines, 25 on the kodiak and 26 on the grizzly, just stock sizes for more puncture resistance and traction in the mud. I hope I helped by giving my opinion.
@@ThomperBeThompin to me the EHS tuner is a waste of money. At least where I live on Kansas/Oklahoma border. I posted on Grizzly Central and quite a few people responded that the tuner made no difference. A few said they were using HMF tuner settings and it was better but the settings are so low I don't know if it does anything. A couple of others said Eric at EHS told them it wouldn't do anything for a stock bike. I've watched a couple of videos where people are testing the EHS tuner and you can hear their quad popping and not running good. I took ours off and they both run great again. I've also watched K C ATV and he put on a air fuel meter and said stock it doesn't run lean but he thought it was lean but it perfect. Now maybe with a slip on exhaust you might be lean and need a tuner ? But it I put a pipe it will be a HMF quiet core titan so I would use their settings. I know right now with AIS delete, whiskeybent exhaust tip 1.5 45 degree my Grizzly and wives kodiak both run excellent and a little bit cooler than they did before AIS delete and the tip makes a noticeable difference. The people saying the tuner works was mostly on pre 2019 models, same for air box mods. Good luck whatever you do !
I was aiming to get the Kodiak for the purpose of work related tasks like pulling a trailer of wood or ploughing the driveway. Only problem is I am over 6 feet tall. Can the grizzly perform all the tasks listed above even if it is touted as a trail riding machine? And if I am only 6 1/4 foot tall Do you really think it is a dealbreaker for the Kodiak?
@@kensingtonwick the Grizzly will do all that, that's what I use mine for, and hauling deer out, filling feeders, hauling wood and chainsaws. Plus long rides exploring old farmsteads and old country roads. I'm 6'4 and the grizzly more comfortable for me. Both are great machines but to me the grizzly is better.
Trying to make this decision right now. I live in the country and have tllable and rolling woods on my land. I need something for skidding logs, plowing snow (driveway winds through woods and goes uphill 200 yds), garden work, and pulling a wagon load. Have you plowed snow or have done any chores? I plan on putting a set of camso tracks on also...any opinion?
I own both , and there is no difference between the 2 . Your babying the grizzly and pounding the Kodiak . Only difference between the 2 is that the Kodiak is lower than the grizzly . Both perform the same …..
I am actually not babying the Grizzly and definitely not pounding the Kodiak. It is the suspension and the wider set up of Grizzly that makes it look like I am taking it easy on Grizzly and hard on Kodiak. It is always the other way round for me.
Ok, now I haven't watched it yet. And I bought my Grizzly because you sold me on it being better than the Kodiak. So after I watch this, if I'm all of sudden disappointed, its going to be all of your fault.
I'm only 5 mins in right now, but I'm just kidding. I've got a Grizzly 660 I've had 2 months shy of 20yrs, and all I was going to get was a Grizzly 700. Your videos, at least in my opinion are excellent. Its not the run of the mill "This has diff lock, this has a lot of power, it does good in mud" stuff you see. These are great real life comparison videos that people can watch and get more out of than anything other than just actually riding both themselves. For people in the market watching videos, these are the kind of comparisons they are looking for. Is it worth it to spend $600-700 more for a Grizzly over a Kodiak? This definitely helps people decide that. Really good stuff. Detailed and informative.
kodiak seems quieter with lower rpms, or maybe you are driving the grizz more aggressively? the suspension seems softer on the grizzly. Also i believe I heard the exhaust pop a couple times on the grizz, but not on the kodiak. Great video overall. Id like to see you do a video descibing the ride etc while driving each atv. That would be awesome , and do the same route for both at the same speed...
The way I see it is if you have the money get the grizzly if you're trying to save money you can't go wrong with the Kodiak I feel I could do anything in the Kodiak that the grizzly can do
Great comparison. Looking at getting both the kodiak (for my wife since she wants a smaller atv) and a grizzly for myself to rip around fast. Will use both for work and play.
congratulations : your video is perfect ! you did the the job like a professional tester. and you gave details, comparision perfectly. I was looking for a video like that since a while... I have a question for you : when you are in standing position riding, what is your impress on the Kodiak ? I know that the Grizzly is very good like that, but I don't know for the Kodiak. are the handelbars enough high for you ? personally I hate when I am like on a Trial motorbike, with handelbars very down, I absolutely can't ride it at all ! How is the Kodiak in standing position, please ? thanks again for sharing you experience !
I am not very tall at 5’9. I am not comfortable standing and riding the Kodiak like I can on Grizzly. I assume it could be improved using handlebar risers like Rox or something.
What an honest video!! Great job. It's true, it's about use. I am going to purchase the Kodiak. I deer hunt, I need an in and out atv, no hard riding, rocks or mudding. Just light trails, and small inclines. My brother bought another popular brand, he rides a little harder, but it stays in the shop. I got to test ride the grizzly and the kodiak, they were both great, but for what I am trying to do, the kodiak will suffice and not break the bank.
I was really considering one of these to try out but as a honda guy that whine of the cvt just kills it for me. There is no way I could listen to that for hours while on a trail. The honda trans is mostly silent and I prefer the gears but the power is no where near one of these yamahas.
I have ridden both even though I have not owned a Honda 4x4 quads. These would give you lot more trouble free miles and it is absolutely pleasure to ride compared to Honda gear box.
I’m leaning towards buying a grizzly over a Polaris sportsman due to the reliability of the grizz. My biggest hang up is the seat looks short for when my wife would occasionally ride with me. Is there enough room for two people on the seat?
My wife and I occasionally ride doubles. We are not exactly trim and slim but we do fine. I do stand up for her to get on and settle down. Even though we have two ATVs sometimes she just wants to ride behind me on slower rides.
How do those tires on the grizzly vs kodiak ride? I have had the bighorn before (actually sunf with bighorn pattern, loved them). considering Grizzly EPS SE or XTR, but i mostly ride trails, similar speed to what you are riding here but rougher. Wondering if I would need to budget for different set of rims and tires (ie, bighorns + rims) for my type of riding. I've read those mud tires ride rough.
Yes anywhere other than off-road the zillas are rough. I tried to make it work without changing rims. It did not feel right anyway I tried. 12” rims and 26” bighorns the best way to go. It is so much more fun to ride and the quad feels super light and fun comparatively
Thanks for the video! I was planning on buying a Kodiak 450 EPS SE, but am considering a Kodiak 700 as I will be using Camso snow tracks. A 450 would have plenty of power for trail riding, but not enough for going up a hill through a metre of snow. I can't really see enough differences between the two very capable models to warrant me spending the extra money on the Grizzly. Maybe you covered this in your other video, but do you find a great difference between the two model's braking ability? I believe the Kodiak has rear sealed oil bath unit and the Grizzly has rear disc brakes.
Grizzly is wider. More stable on offcamber stuff and going fast in corners. Grizzly suspension is way better due to geometry and longer shocks and springs. Yes Grizzly has 4 wheel disk brakes and stops better in certain situations. Wet brake on Kodiak in the rear is almost lifetime
You heard correct. I have the tuner installed on the Grizzly. Here is the video I did on it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YwLkyrBUw5c.html I don’t think it is necessary on the Kodiak for heat. Kodiak did not produce same amount of heat. I am sure Kodiak would benefit from it some as well.
@@urbanacres7189 Thanks I'll add it to my favs, buy a new eps grizzly whenever the world gets a little more stable or the stock market swings my way. You have thoughts on the XTR vs the regular eps grizzly? I think the reg grizzly would be better for doing the alberta shield where I live (all mountains) and tigher trails, and I would perfer the smoother ride of trail tires. I'll be watching if they bring out next years grizzly in green but this year I'll be content with my yamaha wr 250r
Markmeblablabla the only real difference between the 2 grizzly models you mentioned worth noting is the 14” wheels and 27” Zilla’s the xtr comes with, as well as the fender flares. I bought the 2020 last year in the green for hunting, came with 12” aluminum wheels and winch. Buddy bought a 2021 a few weeks back. The only difference I know of between the 2 now, is a 3L fuel capacity increase from 18 to 21L. If you plan on doing tires/wheels anyways, I would skip the XTR. Just my 2 pennies. Hello from BC
No I don’t since I don’t do that much mudding. There are plenty of holes in the skid plate as long as you hose it well. I think you will be good without removing it even if you did mudding
