Cheers Greg, honesty love the content. So many people try this style, but you have a way of actually bringing us along for the ride. Good Luck with the rest of the journey.
Congratulations on 100 shows. Fun and interesting stuff for us biking obsessed fans! I would like to hear more training and nutrition tips if you can convince Jesse to do it!
Regarding diving watches. All serious and semi serious divers use diving computers. It logs the time spent at each depth and calculates how long you have to decompress for and/or wait before your next dive or flight to avoid CO2 poisoning.
I was one of the seven people lukning the GoPro segment. Also shouting the name Virb out at the short thinking break. Keep it up guys love the show! Grats on the bit 100th 🎉
Congratulations on 100 shows guys. Best cycling chat out there. Next stop Netflix 😃. As a serial Scott owner great to hear some chat. Didn't realise they were a non entity in Oz, explains why they're hardly mentioned! Poor distribution in US also I believe. Guess we're spoilt in the UK (on one thing at least, everything else is 🐕 💩😂
Regards from Switzerland….you do not see Lightweight a lot in Germany and Switzerland anymore. Think they missed a little bit the transition to disk break. Also think ownership changed some time since they were founded. Nevertheless…hope they come back
Can confirm... they used to be highest price and highest performance, and now they've kept the price and have tons of competitors with better products that are much cheaper. They live of their brand, something like Rolex.
I went to Denmark… a circus, 178 riders, narrow roads and with only 950 meters so nobody got away. The UCI again did an appalling job. Ps longest climb was a few minutes only sadly.
Scott still have the Addict (not the Addict RC) as their endurance bike in the middle. An updated version will probably go a bit more 'all-road'. They also have the Addict Gravel range.
Online leaks claim sub 6.5kg for the too end new addict rc. That would be... wow. If they could offer that with 35/36mm tire clearance... I would think away from the enve melee
Funny you mention the lack of scott presence in Australia i am currently looking at an addict RC15 and they are hard to find stores with stock however Victoria does have dealers they do stock bikes and apparel.
I was looking at your Crava and it was not bad 👍 💪. Bro i guess you've been looking at mine too lmfaooo00 👏💪😂🤣😆 You were probably like if this old dude can hold 700 plus watts for a minute. I can definitely do it. Not!!!! But not bad 👍
In response to the chat around the weekend warriors want performance, i do not think the guy was pissed off. And me personally i think it was been shown that aero matters even at slow speeds. So if two bikes are the same price but one is faster, why wouldn't weekend warriors want to know which one is faster? We need the help more than anyone.
If scott wanted a one bike to do it all, something that competes woth the SL8, they should have kept the past iterarion of the Foil, woth a few tweaks/updates
3:24 Have you ever been into sales and marketing? Take a closer look. Because options and choice and braking into levels are driving tools of sales. You lose completely and can't compete on the market by providing one option. 3:21
Of course people want to back their bike. It's the thing they chose to buy and use that makes them feel good. same with cars, watches, football boots, frying pans...
Talking about Strava files not giving the real impression of how hard that effort is. I think that’s solved through having HR data shown. Yeah looking at 300+w for x amount of hours and saying dam that’s pretty good going must be easy for him as he does it all the time. However, if you see the same file but see you hold 180bpm for x amount of time you get a feel for he emptied himself. Understandable about athletes not wanting to show hr to be secretive and all that bs but to me that’s a way to convey how hard that is. I guess that’s kinda feeds into comparing your self against other riders a bit too.
Reserves 52/63 in manufacturers site with 240s weight 1606g not 1455 like claimed by GF mag. Where is truth? 160 g lighter weighted? DT350 1,660g , DT 240 - 1,606g , DT 180 - 1,576g , Single Rim - 465g/525g, then it's almost the same weight as Visions. beeing blamed for being 200g heavier. And Bontrager's clear winners for race conditions(w Aeroad@28mm) if I am not colour blind.
@@discbrakefan 😂🤣😆🤌 I like sort Sprint intervals. None of you can hang with me . Not even pros . Sooooooo yeah and I'm an old dude. When I was a young man 2000 + watts was the norm . Now I can still hold close to 1000wats for a minute. Jessy learned everything he knows from me . All of you did 😐🤌 You heard Jesse trying to hold 600 w for a minute? Lmfaooo00 those are warm-ups for me. Literally I warm up around 600-700 w for a minute. Jessie gets on his knees daily and gives me his invocations. Like all of you should, how do you think he actually manages to push so many watts? You think it's him? Lmfaooo00 bro look at my title I am the one that controls the wattage. Wattage is Greek. I give it out. So make sure you kneel and send your invocations daily like Jesse and Chris do .
My FTP is 250 watts, I race low cat, I am on a round tube steel bike with 55mm deep carbon wheels, and I still wanna know what the fastest setup is. There you have it. Congrats on your 100!
It's funny that the actual SUB growth of the channel fell off a cliff ever since we started doing the show, even though the show has been way more popular than what I was doing on the channel previously. My take is people rely on the YT algorithm to feed them the show,.. Either way, we are just stoked everyone is watching. Cheers for the kind words.
Congrats on the century. This means I've listen to you two talk for 100 hrs plus, that's over four days non-stop, and yet I still don't know what I should buy :) Keep it up.
I listen to "The inside running podcast" which is similar to your show. They are sub-elite and competitive runners and they start off their show by discussing their previous training week, before launching into other topics. That might be a nice way to integrate training chat and start off discussions without actually going into the weeds. I love the training chat on the Nero show and would always welcome more.
Can’t believe that Scott is invisible in Sydney. We have them everywhere down in Tassie, in both the road and mtb scene. Goes to show the impact of a couple of really good bike shops stocking them
Most brands nowadays sell you the Ferrari with steel wheels painted like they are magnesium alloy. The SS Evo Lab71 has a 1500g 50/50 mm wheelset. For 15000 USD.
The shock absorbing stuff is going away because they have clearance for such huge tires now. They are really the only thing that moves enough to matter, seatpost maybe some, but tires all the way.
Bigger tyres, but they also know more about carbon layup. Those early disc bikes they took their rim brake bike and reinforced the rear triangle to make sure it could handle the new forces. Now a few generations later they understand the forces around discs and they can build a compliant bike that won't fail without overbuilding it.
Honestly so jealous of people who live next to an amenity like Centennial Park. It's a big outdoor velodrome where it's always sunny, what more could you ask for?
@@discbrakefan The parks get packed here in New York too. With people on City bikes. Kids weaving back and forth. People crossing the street with strollers. It's a nightmare.
The Alps. I'll even take the shitty fall and winter weather having to ride indoors but getting to go out on weekends to great climbs and having my own (smaller) climbs within 15 minutes.
1:59:50 - I did some research (episode 72) - Chris claimed he heard a rumour that Zipp would continue to make hookless rims, however, they would somehow put in a hook #bondthehooks
Congratulations on 100 episodes! I look forward to it every week. You've accompanied me at the gym, whilst driving, on walks, ultra races and cleaning the house. Please keep it coming 👏
"I go hardest at Centennial Park" - To be honest I am Sh*t scared of the place, prams, blind TT riders, geese, cars, joggers, How can you go so hard at CP without some level of risk which I personally dont want to take on? honestly
@@discbrakefan all good, there’s more to cycling than riding around in circles for $50 prizemoney and a podium photo on socials 😉😉😉 but each to their own 👍
The Scott with these wheels looks great. Actually i reached the point where i want a good performing bike which looks good. Don't want some of these chunky, modern bikes. And many lighter bikes are ugly. I rather lose a few watts. That's why i still like the colnago with the old school look. Think the Scott could be my future bike 👍
The whole “punters with a 250 watt ftp don’t need to care cause their speed isn’t relevant” is still just incorrect imo. Punters still move fast, just less often. My FTP is 260, and I missed the podium in my categories state champs criterium by half a wheel after a 15 second 61kmh sprint. half a wheel at those speeds would come from splitting hairs, and If I was on an actual aero bike vs my 2018 emonda for that sprint it could have been a lot more than half a wheel gained. Yeah my training rides average under 30kmh way more often than I sprint at 60+, but most people don’t care how fast their bike is during any old training ride. People don’t judge a bikes performance against their average rides while shopping, only the conditions of their most important rides- which are often their fastest ones.
What I'm going to tell you is the truth Cycling is the only sport that has the most people involved. All ages literally all ages. They give golf courses to people because they go and buy a few golf clubs for a few thousand dollars We're over here spending tens of thousands of dollars not only on the bike on our attire as well The amount of money that the cycling industry makes is 10 times more than any other sport you can think of So for us not to have a built race track with climbs is a crime. I know this really rich dude that tried to build an indoor track here in New York and they wouldn't allow him even though he was going to fund the whole thing. I'm not really a cyclist. I would rather do track really because that's where my strengths are so I was disappointed when this thing didn't go through. Go to the views of any huge golf tournament and see how many views they got on RU-vid or any platform and then look at the views that cycling gets it's twice as much There's something wrong. Things don't make sense. Think about how many people ride bikes. Each person has multiple bikes that cost crazy money. Then they have so much clothing, shoes, glasses, helmets. Each cyclist has way more than any golfer You think a golfer has three four bags filled with golf clubs? How many pairs of pants can they actually get or shoes? Just the amount of money that it takes to sustain. Our equipment brings more money in for the cycling industry then golf can ever bring for the golfing industry. So I don't understand why and how is it that we don't have race tracks for cyclists? This keeps running through my head all the time. And I feel that it's not only a shame. It's a crime.
Congrats on 100 episodes! The average punter, who wants a nice bike, isn't buying an aero bike. The reality is there's more people out there just riding rather than racing.
I am a average punter, and i want that full out aero bike, cause they look soooooo much better that these bikes with skinny tubing just waiting to snap under a 100kg rider🤣
Ive been wanting SPD-SL Faveros. I have multiple bikes with multiple Crankbased powermeters while using Shimano pedals. Now, i recently purchased another bike and want a cost effective pedal based powermeter, hence the Favero Shi is one of the best options, but its scary to use that configuration because of the super wide Q factor. but to change to look style cleats means I have to change all my other bikes to Look. Shane Millers alternative hack seems extremely compelling.
Happy 100th. Love the chat. I think the conversation on the “bikes for elite vs average “ cyclists may need better context. I think all of us watching your show care about cycling and want the best performance we can get for the money we can afford to spend. What most of us don’t know is what difference does it make to say buy an Sworks sl8 vs a lower model of the same bike. If you can afford 20k and are after an Specialised, your probably buying Sworks unless someone can tell you that basically the lower level frame performance is the same as the top level. (Though even then you’re probably still buying the Sworks). Again love the show, and your talking about the Chinese bikes and how they compare against more main stream bikes are great in terms of helping people understand the value for money vs performance question most of us are thinking about when getting a new bike
Yeah!!! For the weekend warriors! I'm 58, have a totally non existent FTP but still enjoy listening to the show. Is performance important to me? - hell yeah. Not in the way it is to an all out racer but more in the realm of reliability, smoothness of operation and yes how light and fast it is (or feels😉), mainly coz us old farts need every advantage we can get just to get up the hills 😂 or hold the wheel of our younger companions. Id be interested to se what the actual demographics of your viewers is, age, skill level. Maybe it inform your choice of content? Or not - cool show eithrr way
Scott is the most common bike where i live, main offering of the biggest bike store chain. Most common city bikes as well. Brand is almost repulsive because of that fact.
as a 'social cylist' stting on my 7 year old endurance bike doing 30km/h group rides, i enjoy the gear and elite chat - it's not really relevant to me, but for some reason is compelling listening! for us 2-300w ftp riders it is interesting to hear about the reality of talent, volume and effort required to 'just' be elite let alone pro, whilst getting occasional titbits that do apply to everyone (e.g. just use sugar water!)
Conrgats Jesse & Chris. 13th & 24th in your age groups respectively. If the show had been just 50 minutes longer it'd hyave taken longer than Jesse finsihing time for those 122kms. As this was my 12th Amy's, I'd love to hear your first thoughts on just how you imagine doing better next year? Amy's '25 could see you both winning a UCI rainbow jersey, of course. You both just (?) need to beat those in front of you this year and also those that arrive from overseas, also looking for a rainbow jersey of their own, next October when the weather could be vastly different too. When Jesse told me after finishing that he wished he'd had more water, and we looked gown to find 150ml left in a bottle! Perhaps you had after things to focus on Jesse! 🤐 Training, position, tactics, nutrition, hydration (the UCI allows 500ml camelbaks for pros, did you know) but especially for your show, equipment selection. Apart from those listening who actually club race, isn't almost evrything required at Amy's the same for anyone wishing to ride for 3 or 4 hours without stopping or support? (The UCI does allow limited support at GF Worlds by the way!) What are the potential benefits for each of these influences on the energy required to cover a distance faster than anyone else 'in your age group' in a likely sprint final. According to Erwin Vervecken who runs UCI GF racing, there are not very many UCI pro-equipment restrictions that are involved in GF World Champs scrutineering. But there is scrutineering! Cycling can be a team sport, or not, with road and TT events, how will you select your priorities. Would either of you consider riding for team Australia to support another Aussie winning over yourself. I've qualified before, just not for Perth back in '16 or Lorne next Oct, so I'll be in one of the following packs next year, for the first time. C'est la vie.
Your Addict RC chat tells me you don’t have much hands on with the current RC. Which is fine but here’s some insight. The current bike is already an all arounder with room for 34mm WAM as personally tested with 1st gen Hunt limitless (23mm int.) and 32mm GP5k clincher. The fork on the current Addict RC is actually deeper than the fork on the old Foil RC and it has the Scott F01 aero profile. The F01 profile on the current Addict RC is all over the bike on not just the forks, but every other bit except the chain stay where the chainstay is very stiff. Frame weigh around 790g-840g. The move to the new one looks to be lighter and more of a climber in comparison, the downtube on the new one actually looks to be oddly more rounded and less aero “looking” than the current one. Current one with the F01 profile and downtube same width as a regular water Bottle. One last Addict RC spec is the steerer tube is 1 1/2 inch just like a TCR.
Disagree that Roval Rapide CL’s are better than the Bontrager Aeolus RSL51’s (I own both). Aeolus feel more aero, lighter and responsive. Yes, I know I’m referencing the CL’s but can the CLX’s with a 70g weight difference and bladed spokes make that much difference 🤷♀️. I can’t comment on those new uber expensive Rapide Team wheels the pro’s are using…..
Personally, I'm loving the cross over commentary into rowing (etc) as it relates to training, racing, exertion in general, etc. Many Masters cycling zealots come from 'other sports' so it's often informative to cross compare various aspects. Keep it coming!
I did a gran fondo worlds in Albi in France a few years back. I can't say I'm ever rushing back. It was a dogs breakfast just in the start area. Think crazy large peletons, so dangerous just in the roll out, and what would be worse is bunches coming together. That's even worse. There was some horror stories coming out of the Perth one a few years back in this regard. As prestigious as it would be to win, with the numbers of riders out there, finding the front may actually be difficult. I also feel like it's a massive money making exercise for the UCI.
So this is the comment I was secretly hoping to read, and was the feeling I was getting from a few people. I’m going to dive a bit deeper on this and chat more about it. Thanks for the personal experience.
I may be way out of date but I did the Worlds back in the day (2013?) when it was in Trento in Italy (having qualified from one Amy’s ride). I recall 3 different groups coming together at the top of the first climb with carnage ensuing. Never been so relieved to hit the bottom of a descent intact in my life - bodies everywhere. I did the Amy’s thing a couple of times around that time and it felt much better organised and not dangerous at all. Proud of my sub 3 hour one year - have never been as good since! I think it may have gone the other way to the one you are facing though as the Skene’s climb was after the Ocean Road.
@@Richard-qe7st , sounds familiar. Albi I think may have been 2017 or so. I can't be bothered looking it up, but thereabouts. Distance was decent, at 150km or so. There was 'neutral' water, or what in fact was a 'neutral lack of water'. It was pretty farcical really. My mate who was at Albi also, he crashed out, early, like in the first 10km or so. Back in those days, it was the Blayney to Bathurst as the qualifier. That was actually a good race.
Amys, its a fantastic event, closed roads, massive bunches so draft-fest will get you a good time (some serious hitters in there). the climb out of Forrest can be challenging at threshold, descent down to Skenes Creek, fast a few turns don't look at the ocean. Great Ocean Road, don't forget to look at the stunning views - GOR has some punching climbs 440 m elevation gain.
