Whether you are just dipping your feet into the art of bonsai, or looking for information about which tools you need, this video is packed with my insigt into what to buy.
My favourite tool is the snub nose wire cutters. I find it very cathartic and weirdly relaxing cutting away little curls of wire, one turn at a time, and being able to get right up against the branch without fear of damaging it.
I retired, moved to Colombia with just 2 suitcases of stuff, and began a new life. When I got into bonsai again, I took the approach of buying the tools I needed at the time until my collection was complete. My first tool was a pair of scissors and a bonsai wire cutter. The wire cutter is actually my most used tool. I now have about 10 tools which I got over about a 6 month period. Great video
@@TonysBonsai It is called City of Eternal Spring. So, yes, desiduos trees are out for the most part. But I have one tree I was forced to trunk chop, and now in about a month it has long shoots. And at this time of year I don't have to water the trees. We have sun half the day and rain at night. When we get many days with only a warm sun, everything explodes!
Cheers mate. I'm amazed how it's taken off. If you'd have told me when I shot my first shambles of a video that I'd be at 1000 subscribers ten weeks later, I'd have told you that you were quite mad!
Well done Tony 1k Subs you’ve breezed that! Nice video Also very helpful for anyone starting out! Iv been making do with the tools I have but now my materials getting closer I feel investments needed! Thanks 😊
Good practical video. I notice Peter Chan uses secateurs a lot, bypass rather than anvil. My root rake is a three pronged one with a sort of butter knife blade on the other end. Other stuff is what's in my toolbox anyway.
yes, He uses the falco secateurs a lot. I suspect that is partly because he has so many trees to prune, and they are the most efficient tool. I also have a three-pronged root rake, but I'll be damned if I can find it!
wire cutters and concave cutter makes allot of difference. had been repurposing other tools for the others but those two does things that other tools cant.
Good video Tony well explained to novices, the only one I would add is a 3/4 pronged rake, even an old stout bent into shape dinner fork will do the job I think I have seen Nigel using something like that. But we’ll done mate, keep them coming. Joe
Thanks Joe, and I completely agree. I have a three-pronged rake, but I can't for the life of me find it! If I had it I would have included it in with the root hook and chopstick.
Hi folks what’s your recommendations on tools available in uk? I don’t want to buy twice cry twice as it where. Be good to no how long you own them and why you rate them? Thanks 🌱
My stainless scissors are ok, but not amazing. These however I'm very happy with! www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B075L21JC7?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details
Hi Tony ! Sorry, random question. Novice bonsai owner. Accidentally left my Bonsai in the sun too long and the moss is now yellow. How do I get it green again ? Thanks mate
No moss expert at all, but I would water it well and place it in the shade. Just make sure that your tree will be ok with those conditions for a few days.
