Love the Ions they feel so dialed in. The strap gives you that traditional binding feel. Mines softened up a little after about six days! Very comfortable and responsive! 🤙🏽
I have had the Photons & Ions. I think Burton missed a trick with both boots. The Photons are basically a single BOA system that has a BOA strap to replicate the feel of a binding strap, unlike the double BOA system on the Photon boots for traditional binding that provide independent upper and lower functionality. The Ions are great if you don’t mind the strap which is almost pointless to the extent that many riders I know cut it off completely. I tried the Nitro Darkseid and sold both the Photons & the Ions. As soon as I put them on they felt night & day better designed than the Burtons. They are expensive (I was fortunate to get 30% reduction) but personally worth it. They have a true dual BOA for an independent upper/lower control and an inner locking system to keep the heel firmly in place. They are similar to the Ions for stiffness and a far better thought out boot. I spend a fortune with Burton (8k) last season so no hate from me. I just wish the Photon/Ion boots were functionally better designed.
Photon SO should have 3 Boas, the 2 for the upper and lower parts as the regular Photon has, and the extra one for the ankle-feeling. That or just the two Boas for the upper and lower parts of the boot without ankle feel
This is precisely the video I needed and right on time! Thank you! I’m a beginner-beginner and wondering what size to get. Size up or down? Should they fit normal or snugly? Thanks again!
Hey I also just got some step one for the new season! It might take a couple tries to get the perfect fit but I think the goal is for it to be pretty snug. Not uncomfortable but essentially the tighter the better. Hope this helps, God bless!
@@clazz6638 probably don’t have enough exp with a lot of boots to give you a truly informed answer. for me, they’re just the right level of flexibility and I like something in the middle - I’d say 5/10 is about right
The Ruler is going to be the softest beginner friendly boot that they have. If you are looking for the next upgrade up the Photons are a medium flex that will get softer over time.
I bought the Burton photon last year, and I really like the step-on system. However, I’ve been experiencing a lot of pain on the sides/outsides of my feet. This has actually been a problem for me with various shoes in the past. Is there anything I can do to help reduce this pain?
Sounds like you may need a wide style. We have the Photon and Ruler in wide for men's and the Felix and Limelight for women's. All available on our website!
