His edge guarding is also like his one saving attribute. Like they put Gannon but not plant. Plants is way better than Gannon’s if you know what you are doing.
plant is best at home camping on ledge too so its a wonder as to why not mention was given but ganon was. however maybe theyre just referring to edgeguarding rather than edge trapping which is technically what plant excels in
Tbh tho, Luigi's fast areals can easily edgeguard someone who's really close to the ledge, stealing they're jump. Example: fair, dair, nair, up air, and down b if ur a man. It also helps that he has bad air mobility which means he will drift really close to the ledge.
Wait, mewtwo isn’t on the list? His back air can reach miles In front of him, his fair can kill early, his nair can drag down, shadow ball can edgeguard and reverse his momentum. Kinda confused how he isn’t here
Same with meta Knight he is tied with the most jumps in the game and all of his special can be used for recovery and all have a hitbox at one point. Plus his aireals have decent range come out very quick his bair is quick and kills his fair can be linked with a jump and another to kill his dair semi spikes and his up air is fast and at low percents can combo into a bair
@@Mepphy99 Same stuff he did in smash 4 except he struggles to kill as much in exchange for a better neutral. Very underrated character with surprisingly good top tier match ups (I pretend snake doesn't exist tho).
Replace Ganon on this list with Meta Knight. People always seem to forget he exists... he can edguard with fair and backair, and more importantly his neutral b while always making it back as literally all his specials are recovery options, and he also has multiple jumps.
λucas Yeah, not sure about Ganon being here, dude’s definitely got juice offstage but he can’t go too far, and he can’t throw out multiple moves against a low recovery without a decent amount of risk. There are definitely a good amount of recoveries that Ganon bops for free, but most of them are covered by other characters and more.
I agree that Meta Knight should be on this list but you may have forgotten that Meta Knight's nuetral b does not allow for any post recovery thus can be very tricky to use offstage
@JohngamerYT i don't care if this real or not, if i said "no" that because your comment wasn't funny and because the "me laughs in" isn't very original
I would put Link on this list as well. Bomb is a dangerous tool on its own, enabling Link to edgeguard effectively without having to go off-stage similar to Snake, while also nullifying most vertical recoveries when z-dropped or thrown downwards at the ledge. Link's bow and arrow can also be used in a similar manner to snipe opponents traveling high. Without these, Link is also a great edgeguarder himself, with N-air's strong first hit and long lasting soft hitbox. B-air has incredibly low end lag which allows him to throw out multiple while in the air. Although a _Fair_ly committal move, F-air has great range and will kill incredibly early when used off stage. D-air is a much stronger commitment, but with the right set up can be used to spike opponents with minimal risk. There's also Link's hero spin, which, similar to Shulk's, can be reversed, allowing him to steal stocks whilst recovering and also has a long lasting hitbox that can scoop up opponents offstage. With so many tools at his disposal, Link's edgeguarding ability should not be underestimated, and can definitely stand up together with the rest on this list.
My friend was like "yeah I kinda play this game" and then REFUSED to let me recover while I played fox and they played peach. Thats the first time I learned to fear the Peach.
@@johnnyray9107 TBH, I joke about that, but Fox is one of those characters I have a horrific track record against. The goal is to not go off stage with him and just overwhelm enemies in neutral and you should be fine.
Lucas 100% should be on this list with d-smash invalidating a lot of recoveries up-b as an amazing recovery decent kill option and if used right can drag people into the blast zone great disjointed areals two of which spike down b stalls an can do lots of cool stuff f-tilt 2 frames and lots of other stuff Like zair and pk freeze
I guess it's just hard picking a top 10 when the game has like 70 chars xD Ivysaur isnt all that great, but it's dair alone is a better edgeguarder than some entire characters hahaha
@@project-electron3291 nope Squirtle is better than Ivy. Ivy's neutral lacks something as Razor leaf isn't that great, so you have to consistently space your bairs to wall them out. Squirtle has one of the best neutral and combos in the game. Ivy's advantage state is godlike though.
@@project-electron3291 ivy is a great char, I only meant that as an edgeguarder it lacks a lot of the good traits you can see on this video. But just with it's dair it's already better than many chars at edgeguarding
Pit is definitely underrated in edgeguarding, when I play as him I almost never have to worry about how deep I am going and most of my edgeguarding attempts work out for me in some way
Yeah Pit has been a really good character for learning edgeguarding for me, the multiple jumps and great up b make it much easier to work offstage without fear of messing up the recovery afterwards
I main Dark Pit in Ultimate, Lets see, All air attacks besides up-air kills with decent range and fairly fast startup and end lag, a very good recovery and multiple jumps, and while Light Arrows are good for hitting others offstage while you stay onstage, Dark Arrows give more knockback and can be used offstage, and aimed up at recovering characters.
Sonic definitely should be on the list. His moves are great to catch recoveries. Fair, bair, maybe dair, spring, HA, and spindash. His recovery allows him to go for deep edgeguards and can air dodge. He can even two frame with that stupid fsmash that kills early cuz he exists
Same if inkling on the list sonic and megaman should be top. All inkling edgeguarding tools is just fair and bair Inkling recovery is if sonic megaman recovery could go horizontal but they got directional edgeguards so inklings is just overated
@@keylarous467 oh and about Mario, I don't get the point of that, I mean, he doesn't have anything that great to go offstage, his fair is predictable and super slow
It's hard to watch this video without having Lucas and Ness as one of the best edge gaurders in the game. Imo I think Lucas is the best edge gaurders in the game because unlike everyone else, Lucas doesn't need to go off stage and kill people but others do. Lucas whole Special moves can edge guard everyone in the game. Also up smash and down smash easily 2 frame anyone in the game. Everyone has an opinion but imo, Lucas is the best edge gaurder in the game
I think Falco is pretty good at edge guarding. His insane jump height and good horizontal recovery means he can go pretty far, and the multi hits on both his fair and nair make them hard to avoid.
You forgot about BOTW Link. He has some strong edge guarding tools that can such as his Nair, remote Bomb and reverse Aerial UpB are both unique and extremely strong for him
Kevin Jackson in some matchups its a free edgeguard and you cant avoid it. wanna go high against lucas ? pk fire fair and freeze wanna stay at the ledge? down angled dtilt or dsmash. Lucas shines at the ledge.
Are we gonna not talk about Meta Knight? He has great frame data, can stay in the air for a long time, and all of his specials are good for recovery, especially because of the hit boxes on each move
i was specting link on the first place, he can edgeguard with out even geting off the stage, he can also reverse edgeguard with his up B, can also edgeguard with any aerial, nair being the best for comming out too quickly, down air can spike, Fair can kill at low percentage out stage, and Bair can connect with Up B, the bomb can cover almost any angle, arrow can travel very far away and kill near to the blast zone, boomerang can cover certain angles and take away jumps.... why is no Link in this video???
Because there's people foolish enough to say "Nair and bomb are better for ledge trapping" because it's "safer" which is by default. If you don't use nair when edge guarding with link you'll rarely close out stocks and fail a lot.
There are so many good edge guarders in this game. You missed ones like MK, Mewtwo, Falco, Piranha Plant (more of a ledge trapper tbh but still), Mega Man and more.
I rly don't think Mewtwo, Falco and Plant are better Edgeguarders than the ones shown in the vid. I agree for Megaman tho. He def should be in the top.
She's much better at ledge trapping and if she goes off stage and messes up she can be easily gimped with a lingering hit box e.g. meta knight nair/tornado.
Umm, you’ve forgot to mention bowser jr, who has SO much edge guard options: Up B bomb, Up B Hammer, Mechakoopa drop, Mechakoopa throw, clowncart, BackAir, FowardAir, DownAir to push opponents down, cannonball, that falls down after some time. And also Jr has a really good recovery with a 3rd clowncar jump. Bruh, one of the best EdgeGuarding machines not mentioned here. I’m not even talking about the fact, that airials have a MASSIVE long lasting and safe hitbox. Also you can combine all these things together. BRUH MOMENTUM! The most underrated character IMHO.
Umm... actually no. If you press shield, the clowncart returns. It doesn’t always work, but in 90% of cases it does and I can return to stage successfully. Also bowser jr has a third jump with a clowncart, so you can travel under the stage easily and avoid Ness or Lucas down smash
@@Migota_ Yeah all of his arials (especially his back air and nair) is very good for knocking people far off the stage and with all of his jumps he can just chill off the map for so long.
Numbingbird Better than OK, b-air and f-air are amazing at hitting opponents fast off-stage, you can fast-fall nair to lead into those aerials, and tornado at ledge is honestly just amazing. Not to mention multiple jumps and 4 ways to recover.
I think Megaman is easily one of the best edge guarders. His wide array of projectiles plus his fair, dair, and bair make him a deadly foe when trying to get back on stage
Ok, before I watch, I'm going to guess Mr Game and Watch I might be biased because I main him, but really -Dash attack is a long lasting, somewhat powerful, universal 2-frame move -fair is virtually no risk, has medium damage and _fair_ kill power (yeah puns) -Bair can both be a tricky to tech stage spike, or be used as a traditional edgeguard and is pretty strong -he can go super deep with up-b being able to come back from basically anywhere -dair is actually safe to use and can spike or, again, stage spike. And because you wouldn't expect to see a move like dair offstage and it's so fast, you're bound to surprise someone so that they can't tech in time, and at high percents it might even become untechable.
As A joker Main I am a really big proponent of edge guarding. Arsene Bair is really good in general but off stage it is scary as hell. Also down gun against poor vertical recovery is another great option
@@jacobmohr82 thats attacting from the ledge if the video was about that then they would include wolf and bowser down smash and other character's that can 2 frame ledges
I would also like to mention Bowser, who has a stupidly large fair combined with surprisingly good air speed, which makes surprise leaps of faith off stage an actual thing.
Other good edgeguarders imo: Wolf because of fair and bair Link's nair is safe as well a remote bombs Dr. Mario's tornado is really scary offstage and he also has a solid back air Mario's back air and fair are useful Falco's down air and fair are safe and since Falco has a high jump, he has no problem returning to the stage Ridley and Dedede have multiple jumps so they are the best heavyweight edgeguarders Toon Link has a consistent edgeuarding with fair and nair to gimp Roy's noodle hits of his sword hilariously gimp as well Chrom, just like Lucina, has consistent edgeguarding Cloud has nair, forward air, back air, neutral B and limit Captain Falcon has the knee and stomp Isabelle and Villager have the slingshot fair and bair R.O.B. has arm rotor and fast aerials
most of this list is good however cloud and wolf cant generally make it back which is a hige problem if you wanna edgeguard especially with a laggy move like bair on wolf
R.O.B also has his gyro to cover normal get ups and an extremely threatening dair with a spike hitbox the size of Jupiter to cover jumping. I honestly think he, Snake, and Pac-Man should be tied for first place on this list.
Although he is a bit slow, King K. Rool is solid and overall underrated in terms of edge guarding. His Nair practically has super armor because of his belly, and it can trade with other recoveries with hitboxes so the move is little punishing. His Nair also holds out for a long time (about the same time as Mr Game and Watch’s back air). There are other moves that K. Rool has that is also solid, like his down and back air, but they are less practical in terms of edge guarding, outside of spikes of course.
Peach can float anywhere offstage to Fair. If she wants to ledge guard then she can throw turnips from afar and then 2 frame. Additionally, using float cancel to ledgeguard can be done by using down air while floating right below ledge. Underrated.
After seeing what ESAM can do with Pikachu, I think he's the best. Regi hasn't shown anything close to pikachu edgeguarding on the top level. Why wasn't Mewtwo on this list? Mewtwo is Jigglypuff and Palutena in one.
@@ahmadkazan7994 The knockback of spring in Ultimate is less than it was in Smash 4, meaning it has to be at a higher percent to successfully gimp someone with spring alone
@Roberto Snchez Zuriaga u right my dude he has a top 3 ledgetrapping but maybe not a top 10 ledgeguarding. It's easy to dodge the bomb if you're in the air if you have a good recovery. its NOT easy to dodge a bomb when you're on ledge and the bomb is right next to you
@@azophi it's not easy to dodge a bomb plus nair or a early detonation. Nair bombs arrow and boomerang are all key in Link's edge guarding to force low recoverys. Nair, bomb and arrow are used the most.
Kayuun Lucas is better edge guarder because Ness PK Thunder can actually help the opponent and Lucas's PK Freeze is a better version of flash. Also, Ness's yo yo doesn't work if the opponent isn't low enough.
Edge guarding and arials are Meta Knights whole thing in ultimate I'm sitting here like.... how isn't he in this vid. I get he isn't a popular character but damn. My main gets no love
sheik is still the best edgeguarder, have people forgot when void edgeguarded the shit out of salem's bayo at smash and splash? that stuff didn't get nerfed my dudes
@@verp177 • bouncing fish for high recoveries • if it misses just recover with up b and you might score an easy kill • nair sends at a stupid angle, i've gimped people at like 12%, super effective against characters like mario, olimar, damn the lingering hitbox even destroys palu • bair is strong, has a big hitbox, often combos into bouncing fish, and lingers too • wall jumps & bouncing fish against the wall make her movement incredible and create a lot of mixups • it's never a problem to get back to the stage if things don't go as planned i looooove her
@@aisu_j5 I really like her too, but I think bouncing fish isn't that precise L, and if u miss it you can get easily punished for that, then Bair has a quite small hit box and low knock back, Nair is just a better version of Bair but still her suor spot sucks
Not surprised he wasn’t mentioned but my boy mii brawler is worthy of note when it comes to edge guarding. He can’t really go that low thanks to his poor vertical recovery but his other options are actually crazy. His shot put can keep him safe on stage as he throws a multitude of high damaging and high priority projectiles off stage. His flaming drop kick has strangely high knock back, meaning if you get hit by it off stage at most percents you’re basically dead and it can also be used in the air infinitely meaning he can smack you with it up high and then use it to get back on stage. Back air, while a bit slow, is a consistent kill move that can be thrown out multiple times and his nair has a very long lasting hit box with good range and a powerful launching ability at the start of the move. Axe drop kick is a sight to behold too. Basically if he has either even stocks or a stock lead you can’t edge guard him because the spike hitbox on the hit down is one of the strongest in the game. If you get hit by it either you’re going down with him or you’re going down and he’s snapping ledge, either way you can’t win. That’s not even to mention his feint jump which can greatly aid in recovery and spike if landed correctly (although this is less useful for actual edge guarding). All these things in mind mii brawler, although not seeming it, is something to fear while in the air, although he isn’t exactly a menace like some on the list, he’s certainly something to note.
Lucas is good w pk fire and thunder while also having a long dair. Down smash is more of a ledge trap than a edge guard but still as a lucas main I'm sad he ain't on here Me : Cries in lucas
How is ROB not on this list? Besides having arguably the best or at least most versatile recovery in the game, he can cover every single angle of recovery between his gyro, laser, and d-air. All of his aerials besides his u-air also stall or alter his aerial trajectory, enabling crazy offstage mix ups.
I agree that R.O.B. deserves to be here (over Ganon or Inkling imo) but I'd want to correct something. He doesn't have 4 aerials that stall/alter his trajectory. Fair or Nair don't do that. Only Dair (which stalls and does a tiny "hop" up basically enabling R.O.B. to throw out a massive hitbox and hop on stage quickly) and Bair (that propels him backwards a fair bit, good for recoveries). But yeah. -Laser and Gyro let him not even commit to going offstage -Fair is great at spanking people cause it's quick and wide -Bair lasts a long time and kills SO early, and even if you get a sourspot you still have upper hand easily -Dair is also big and trashes a lot of linear recoveries if you're good at timing it -Arm Rotor also says "no" to a lot of recoveries (for example Inkling will succumb to it if they have to Up B to ledge), lasts a long time and can kill EARLY too -Up B that can legit allow him to stay there for like 15 seconds so he has a lot of time to stay there and throw out a lot of thin
I can't take this guided seriously because they missed the best Smash recoverer , PACMAN , , like WTF what kinda guide misses a a character that can basically go to the and of every stage , so far out the stage , even when the screen no longer shows were you are ( To end of time out the stage lol ) , and PACMAN can still recover , again , I can't take this guide serious if they missed that lol
@@bluckq but his side B has super armor and is incredibly hard to challenge. Plus he has a ton of ways to stall in the air and mix up his recovery. He can recover super high and be relatively safe due to being able to both drop the Hydrant and z drop Fruit, on top of having a nigh incontestable side b should he choose to recover low or laterally. A good Pac-Man is nearly impossible to edgeguard.
@@DoritoTime not really. He has a ton of really geat ledge trapping setups with Hydrant, Fruit and Trampoline that leave opponents with basically nowhere to go if executed right.
The fact that Link was not in this list before Ganon blows my mind. Link btw can go as deep as he wants as long as you're willing to learn zdrop aerials and bomb recovery. He also, like snake, technically doesn't even need to leave the stage to edge guard either. Not to mention that his up-b completely nullifies some recoveries and he can jump off-arrow with a bomb in hand with forward drift, throw the bomb up, double jump toss boomerang and then grab ledge before ledge dropping to cover the only remaining option with hero spin, which is going low.
I KNOW. WHERE'S LINK. Also besides down B link has a super long lasting nair, a fair that kills early for people who recover high, a spammable back air, and an up b that covers a ton of distance and can also serve the same purpose as shulk. Z-dropped remote bomb is amazing and can counter so many other characters... Link's amazing edgeguarding is one of the ONLY advantages he can use over characters like Palu. He can even edgeguard a freaking teleport my dude
@@verp177 and his nair and reversed up b can kill at ledge pretty early and fair is good but okay true... link doesn't really have a super great strategy against palu. He's top 3 at ledgetrapping but not SUPER great at ledgeguarding
For pikachu, you forgot to mention that his back air is long lasting multihit move with a pancake hitbox that destroys a majority of the roster if they even think about recovering from beneath stage, combine that with everything else he can do to edgeguard and it gets insane.
