Thank you for such a thorough, honest, and entertaining review! I know nothing about power tools but have been researching options for my first power drill. This was super helpful! I think I'm going to go for the KIMO
I know anything about tools. Man, you saved me a lot of time and the frustration that comes with it. The Kimo I'm getting. Thank you for your vid and regards from NYC.
Watched a lot of these type of videos and yours was the most informative. You also had the best delivery and easily understandable for someone (ME) who knows little of such drills. Thank you|
Yep, if you have the money and can justify the expense, I love my dewalt drills. For typical DIYers trying to make ends meet and using a drill a couple times a month, the drills shown here provide some great options.
I feel the same way when I am dealing with my work tools pretty much use Milwaukee but came across this video because I am looking for a complete home sit that I barely would use unless I’m around the house
Excellent video! I bought an Avid Power drill off of Amazon a few weeks ago to use for some little household projects, and it works surprisingly well! I've only had to charge it once since I've had it, and as far as I can tell it can drill through anything.
I’d love to see the avid power drill vs the $30 hyper tough from Walmart. They look almost identical and I’d be curious to see if you could swap the batteries.
I’d bet a cold one that the batteries aren’t interchangeable. Lots of drills look identical but the batteries normally have a proprietary interface which absolutely sucks.
Nice review of the lesser drills. This proves that the average home owner doesn't need any more power than these for DIY tasks But I would love to know how the DeWalt stacks up to my Milwaukee M18 Fuel Gen4 hammer drill. :)
Thanks. One consideration is that for these prices you can get into a refurbished ryobi which is a tiny step up. The biggest challenge I have with these brands are the battery availability in five years. Do you thunk they will still be available or only after market. Thanks for this video. For a person who uses a drill every once and then these are adequate.
My older dewalt 18v xrp Battery charger just died and it's on it's last battery. No I could drop2500 new charger Gets new batteries for maybe 75-100 but is it time to just get a new one. Given my budget is about $50 for right now and I need something right now But what I need doesn't have to have a lot of torque or power it just needs to spin fast I'm thinking cheap drill now and then when I get ready for the next construction project get good equipment. I know the drill is good
Teccpo is a good drill. I have the drill driver and impact. 60$ each 2 batteries, charger, a bag 25 bits and then some other bit accessories with the impact. I was very surprised with the quality Im probably gonna stick with Teccpo. I've put them through the ringer and it's done every job easily. My only complaint is the drill bits occasionally come loose in the chuck while I'm drilling wholes. The batteries definitely don't die after 30 mins. I use them all day one battery per drill and I have to charge them every 2 days. I even bought Teccpo rotary tool it's powerful but it gets hot fast and idk if that's normal it's my first rotary tool. I bought Teccpo mini saw but returned it wasn't digging the plunge saw. Other than that it was a powerful saw
@@ToolMetrix I will. I bought the impact about a month and a half ago because I got tired of having to switch bits for drilling and driving. Both drill were on sale for around 60. They both came with 2 batteries, charger, bits and a bag. I do know that I never had issues with the batteries. Even if it only came with one battery they lasted long enough that I could charge it at night or if I took a lunch and it'd be fully charged when I need it. I use them from about 9am until 8-9 everyday and have had no issues. What do you mean run it continuously? Hold the trigger until it dies or just drive screws or drill holes until it dies?
Yes. That was my test. Continuous run time. Squeeze the trigger until it stops spinning. No way could I run it all day. I’m guessing that you aren’t building decks or stud walls all day on a single charge.
@@ToolMetrix I've been off work so I work in the garage all day. I've been building portable workbenches and the occasional blanket ladder and outside benches for friends. The workbenches are 2×3 2×4 and plywood. Some have MDF tops depending on what the customers want. I predrill and countersink every screw and drill 4- 1 1/2-2 inch holes through the top frame that has 2 polls that slide out for table top extension or they can be pulled out and used as table legs for flip top. So I am technically drilling into studs but not for a wall. It's not the same as your test so I'll try your continuous test and let you know the results. Thanks for the all the info and feedback. I've been a union laborer for 17 years and have done just about every type of construction but never finish carpentry or detailed work so woodworking is very new to me. With covid and being stuck at home all my learning is trial and error or RU-vid so every video is greatly appreciated
@@bmp507 Let me know Brian. I just bought this Teccpo and now concerned since seeing this review and mine only came with 1 battery at $42.99 on sale. I could buy a whole new drill kit for spend $30 on just another battery alone.
Do they all have one handed chucks? I have a 4 yo 20v Black and Decker. It's not a powerhouse, but it's handy to have around. My biggest problem with it is that the chuck is two handed and it's pretty terrible.
Hi Charlie, they all have the same style chuck. I’m not sure if it would be considered one handed or two handed. There’s not a locking mechanism for the chuck, but it doesn’t require a key either. You’re welcome to try these if you want.
Excellent video, I don't own any of these. I have more mainstream brands. I've been looking for my wife a drill. She's not a wood worker or anything like that. I'm not entirely sure what is going to. Matter the most. I'm extremely familiar with the mainstream tools. I'm among many other things a master carpenter/cabinet maker/, award winning woodworker(Just Back Ground I'm Not Boasting,) As such I have very deep seated opinions about tools. I just want something that she can handle without frustration that poorly made products can bring. So I appreciate your efforts.
The main problem I find with KIMO 20 V tools is battery availability. I have been looking for a 20 V replacement battery for three months and I’ve had no luck. Amazon used to carry them but they are no longer available and I have not been able to find them anywhere on the Internet. Regardless of the tool quality, they are useless if you cannot find a replacement battery.
Hi Donald, yeah, a lot of these "tier 2" tool companies are light on parts and accessories. I think that they basically price the drill at about the same price as a Dewalt battery and figure that if your battery dies you can just replace the whole kit. To be clear, I don't like that, but that's just what I'm guessing is the logic.
Thank you for the super helpful video! I’ve been debating which power drill to go with for light weight home use. You helped me arrive at the Avid Power drill and I really appreciate it! Question: what are the pros and cons of choosing 1/2” vs 3/8” ? Thank you!
It really comes down to the drills ability to accept a bit larger than 3/8” without a necked down shaft which puts a better grip on the bit. Not a big deal for most hobbyists.
I've built 20 garden boxes, fences, catio projects, used garden auger for planting every year, left it in the rain for 5 years now with my $35 black and decker 20v (pre inflation). It's still going strong.
Wow I’m so jealous lol I have two small kids under 5 and just the thought of being able to do this type of stuff with my time is a dream! Not complaining I love my family but man I see guys doing this stuff and I get so jealous because I have ZERO free time
Yeah, it’s tough. I find that free time doesn’t just happen. When the kids were younger I would get out to the shop a couple hours before they got up. And sometimes I would go out again after they went to bed. Then I’d go out there early on weekends and get done what I could before I made them breakfast.
@@ToolMetrix yeah I’m just doing my part as a parent but one day I’ll miss it once they are grown and all I will have is free time to do these things so it’s fine but anyways I love your content. Great stuff just amazing
Between Avid and Black & Decker which would u suggest if both are coming for same price ? i saw some videos where they said Avid broke after couple of uses, so kinda confused
Dang! I had intended to. The Kimo was the only one that has a hammer drill function. It does much better on concrete than the others but not in the same league as my Bosch dedicated corded hammer drill. But for occasional use the Kimo is legit.
