This is incredible. I am thinking of getting the roofnest falcon and I have the Jeep Cherokee 2019. I measure it and it definitely goes forward much more. I might do your solution to be extra safe in the highway. I also might do an extra third bar just in case. How’s your experience with the suction cup? Thanks so much for making this video!!!!
The suction cups were more than enough! I also considered a third bar but ended up not doing that because of the cost. I’d have to pump the suction cups periodically but they were amazing and so darn simple! Good luck and most of all… keep adventuring 😊
When you say that the supports running from your seasuckers is fabricated, do you mean that you took everything to a metal shop and asked for them to make that rigging for you? I have a Cherokee trailhawk that I’d love to use the same system on, but I’m puzzled by the interface to the seasuckers
I have a 2017 Jeep Compass and just purchased a RTT (OVS 3 person tent)! It seems like along with the crossbars (I purchased one's from Thule), the Seasucker is a great additional accesory. Do the Seasuckers need an additional attachment to connect to the roofnest? I saw your previous video with the metal bar but was wondering how you decided which one to get! Thank you!
Congrats, you must be so excited :) I used this exact mount (www.seasucker.com/collections/vacuum-mounts/products/6-seasucker-black?lshst=collection) I bought the steel bar separately and bent it to connect from the suction cup to the tent’s built in track. The suction cup has a hole on top that you can connect the steel bar to it with a screw! Does this answer your question? I’m happy to clarify anything :)
Nice video. Do you like your roofnest? I am trying to find a tent for my RAV4. Living in Utah, I do not have access to roofnest dealer and I am nervous to just buy without seeing. What made you choose the roofnest? They seem great and so do the James Barouds.
Hi there! I’m so jealous that you live in the beautiful Tah!!! I chose Roofnest because I had gone on multiple multi-week trips on my friends OG model roofnest. We traveled through Canada in the winter and did other trips in the US. I loved the product and quality. My friend had also told me about the community and how great customer service is. I also liked that they don’t sell through third party stores. Since purchasing, this is the exact experience I’ve had. If I’m not mistaken... the RAV4 has a smaller body than my Jeep GC? Since this tent is a pop-up, the footprint on top of the car is substantial. You might consider a fold out tent to reduce the size of the tent on your RAV4? That’s totally up to you, but even on my Jeep it is huge. There is a Facebook roofnest community called “roofnest flock”. People post the goods, the bads, and questions about the product. The owner Tim often comments on posts as well. I hope this helps :) lmk if you have any other questions.
KassTy Thank you for all the great information. I do think the RAV4 is smaller than your Jeep. I have worried about it. Reminds me of seeing an ant carrying a Cheeto on its back. Hahaha. Structurally, I think the rav is fine, but it does create an odd look when the tent is open, but we shouldn’t worry what others think, right? At this point, I’m not sure what I will do. Maybe I will join that FB group you mentioned and see if anyone else has tried it on a rav. Again, thank you for your help. 🙏🏽😊
KassTy Hi again. Not to be a pest, but I just looked up the length of the Jeep GC and it is 15 ft. The RAV4 is like 15.2 ft, so it is actually longer. This is so cool. Ivan basically assume that it would look the same on my car as yours. Now I just hope I can center it and not need to use the suckers. Thanks again for the information.
KassTy That’s so nice of you to reply again. You have been super helpful. I have the sucker in my wishlist at Amazon because I think they are so cool. They were actually cheaper where you bought them, so I might go there when the time comes, if it comes. I want a rooftop tent so badly, but I am still nervous about how steady it will be up there. I am also waiting in hopes prices will come down and someone local will sell them. Currently, they are almost half the price of a small pop up trailer. In the meantime, I am thinking I will build a platform inside my car. Still looking forward to the day I can get my roofnest. Maybe if i figure a way to become an influencer, things will happen much more quickly. 😂 Thank you again. You should pose videos of some of your car camping adventures.
Hi there, unfortunately I no longer have this set up so I can’t give you measurements:( I positioned the crossbars as far apart as the jeep would allow. The biggest issue/annoyance was I couldn’t push the tent back any further because the tailgate would hit it. I did research and couldn’t find a way to set the tailgate at a custom height either. I don’t think it’s possible on the wk2. Sorry I don’t have specific answers to your question.
