I would love if you made a video about makeup tips (dos and don’ts) for dry eyes (I’d be interested in hearing specifically about meibomian gland issue-dry eyes). I’d also love to hear any follow-up thoughts you might have about magnetic liner and accompanying lashes (I loved your last video on them where you tested one brand - and I’m definitely curious if you have any further thoughts on magnetic liner-lashes especially if - client has dry eyes! I am so thankful I discovered your channel. I’ve learned so much from you. This video was especially helpful. I have dry eyes, especially in my right eye. I had a tumor on my right eye’s lacrimal gland and had both the tumor and gland removed in 2016. The tumor was lymphoma (DLBC NHL). I know this is very unusual and thought you’d find it interesting. Thankfully, I’ve been in remission 4 1/2 years! Thank you for your helpful and informative videos!

Dear Dr. Rupa, I found your video to be very educational and informative. After covid 19 last November one of my upper eyelids dropped. The eyelid was swollen causing the lid to drop into my eye. My vision has been affected. My first Ophthalmologist guessed the problem as being Photsis and the second "specialist" quested the problem as dacryocystorhinostomy. The first ophthalmologist prescribed steroid eye drops which did not do anything for my eye symptoms and the second ophthalmologist prescribed doxycycline for the blocked tear duct gland. Until I find an ophthalmologist with more than a 50 cent theory I have found three things that help. 1. Warm compresses on the eye when it gets irritated or tired. 2. Surgical tape to help hold the eyelid up (without interfering with the eye closing). 3. Cut up a piece of red onion every day to help the gland produce the natural flow of tears. It seems the dropped eyelid has caused the eye fatigue and irritation. On your part, it's too bad you do not have your own TV series like Dr. Pimple Popper :^)

Thank you so much for this video. I have ocular rosacea, which has caused blepharitis. I'm fortunate that artificial tears in the morning are usually enough to get me through the day, but it's incredibly uncomfortable in the morning, makes me light-sensitive and makes me feel as though I'm tired when I'm not (just the gritty sensation, I guess). But lots of days, the artificial tears aren't enough and my eyes get dry again. I was prescribed an eye mask and tea-tree wipes, but as a busy mum to a very early riser, I don't often have the time for that morning ritual (although I'd love to do it!) Despite many conversations with eye doctors this is the first time I've ever heard what's actually going on in the eye; with the oil film and the glands etc. Thank you! I feel like I'm armed with more knowledge and can make better decisions - I'm going to make a better effort with my mask, get a lash cleanser and improve/alter some of my makeup habits. Thank you Dr. Rupa - feeling hopeful!

I love your channel! I love learning about the health angle of the eye including makeup/lashes because I love-love them. Right now I am dealing with clogged meibomian ducts in the lower lash line so I haven’t been wearing eye makeup. My PCP had me try an opthalmic ointment and drops, but neither have helped. Thank you for this info. It’s good to know there are treatments available. Is there anything else I can do from home to help this problem in addition to the warm compress?

This is so helpful. I was just prescribed Restasis, but I and hesitate. I will try the warm compresses and omega 3. But which Omega 3 should I ask for at my healthfood store? You mentioned they are not all the same.

thyroid dysfunction and various muscular dystrophies can also be causes of dry eye syndromes. An inability to close eyes properly , which is known as lagathalmos can have many causes some of which are serious and also can be the cause of dry eyes too

Hi Dr Rupa I’m bothered with red sore eyes since a long time. I recently heard a dermatologist on you tube talk about her diagnosis of Occular Rosacea. It was a revelation. Sooo helpful! I bought these Gentle Steam Eye Masks, they are disposal and have a scent, I was thinking of using them instead of the bead mask, would that work ok? Is the scent a problem? They self heat, I got them on Yesstyle, Kao brand - thanks!

My ophthalmologist recommended putting Restasis in the fridge and I Haven’t had any stinging or burning of my eyes after the meditation. That’s just another thought so you can be on Restasis without the burning

V useful! I've had an eye check up recently and everything is fine apart from this dry eye problem. I dint know u get blurry vision from dry eyes. Kept telling the optometrist that something must wrong with my vision as it gets blurry

I want to use cold green tea bags for my dark under eye crices but I'm worried it will make my dry eyes worse. I currently use eye drops and warm compress. Infact wouldn't the warm compress make my under eye circles worse?

I`ve suffered with corneal erosion syndrome and mis diagnosis by a supposed specialist. Long story short: I wash my eyelids with baby shampoo before going to bed. This works incredibly well for me.

I’ve been using Retaine for my dry eyes for about a month. For many years I was using Refresh drops but Angie fro. hot & Flashy mentioned she was using them. I think my eyelashes are growing a little better too since I’m using them! (I think my eyes developed a sensitivity to Grande Lash). Just my two cents. Thanks Dr. Rupa!

@@Somegirl811 no, they are available over the counter. You can find them on Amazon or I have found them in CVS and Bed Bath and Beyond. They come in a box of 30 individual single-use droppers. I’m so glad I found out about them. Very soothing, and does not blur my vision.

Hello I recently turned 18 (male) and I've been experiencing dry eye symptoms, primarily a burning sensation, for the last week and half. I've been trying to pinpoint the cause, I'm healthy, don't take any medication, don't wear contact lenses and use less screen time than my peers. Although I have some pretty long eyelashes, how much effect do you think this had on developing dry eye symptoms? Further more, do your patients with dry eyes find aduaqaute relief to work/study/read without being constantly being distracted by symptoms from dry eyes? I'm going into my first year as a mechanical engineering student and if I'm unable to study by being constantly distracted by dry eyes, that's pretty much good bye to any good career path

Thank you! for this video, being someone with extreme dry eye syndrome. I been using Refresh Optive Mega-3 but have been using them for about 2 years should I change up to a different one? just wondering if my eyes could become immune too them? maybe a silly question. lol :) And I don't see a link for some Mega-3 brands? Can you please suggest a inexpensive one? And you are soooo right it does put a damper on my everyday life....but to most people when you say you have dry eye syndrome they honestly don't understand.

I tend to get dry eyes randomly during the allergy and sometimes summer season. Do they create eye drops that are safe for people who do wear contacts with the dry eyes? Since, the pandemic i have worn my contacts less often.

1. No fan/Wind/Air conditioning air 2. 8 glasses of water a Day 3. Artificial tears 4 times a day 4. Warm compresses. 5. Sleep 8-9 hours 6. Nutrients (Omega 3, lutein and zeaxanthin; leafy veggies) Period!

I have resolve the problem by going gym 2 to 3 days a week, reduce watching laptop screens and going out more. Now I dont need to use artificial tears or warm compress.

I'm dying to try IPL treatment for my eyes. Drops just don't really help, in my case. At least not to the point, where I could even consider wearing contact lenses. What's odd, is that it's worst overnight. I'm ok at daytime (with glasses anyway), as long as I'm not in a room with air-conditioning, but I always wake up with super dry eyes. I have a bottle of saline solution on my night stand and liberally douse my eyes with it, before I even try to open them...otherwise it can be quite painful. After 30 seconds or so, they have 'unglued' and I can open them and use eye drops for further lubrication. I sometimes even wake up in the middle of the night and do this, so I can go back to sleep. Once I'm up and about, I'm ok, most of the time. My eyes sometimes seem to produce enough teardrops, when I'm out and about and physically active and then they just spontaneously shut down (especially towards the evening) and my eyes suddenly feel super dry and I basically have to use teardrops every 15 minutes, to be comfortable. I already take high dose Omega 3s and I tried hot compresses and eye massage, to no avail. I'll go see another doctor and ask about steroid treatment, I think. So far, I've only ever been offered eye drops and kinda gave up, going at all. Dry eyes really suck. People just shrug it off as a minor inconvenience, when you complain, but it really takes away from your quality of life.

Have you tried the prescription Restasis? I have. Been using it for several years and it does help to some extent but also I have been working from home so I haven’t been using contact lens as well which dries out the eyes of you lacked adequate tears in the first place.

Have you tried something like Retaine PM or Systane Nightime? It's a thick ointment but a little goes a long way. I mean a small amount less than what they even recommend. Otherwise it'll feel uncomfortable and then your vision will be blurry for a bit in the morning until you either shower or do a warm compress. And you likely won't need it every night. I also used to take omega 3s but then I started taking Thera Tears eye nutrition (Omegas + vitamin E?). It helped cut down on how many artificial tears I was using. It doesn't give me acid reflux and I don't taste fish either. I tried Hydration PF as well and that might work for you instead of the ointment if you need something lighter than ointment. It's really about just trying things out.

@@thesavviestsaver Hi, thanks for the recommendation! I tried one really thick ointment once, but kept waking up with rather swollen eyes in the morning. Not as dried out, but really, really puffy. I kinda settled into a routine of waking up about twice every night, to apply drops now. Probably sounds like an ordeal, but my body kinda does it on auto pilot by now and I just go right back to sleep afterwards. I'll look into the Hydration PF though, if it's not as heavy! Maybe I can cut down to applying it once during the night then. Never to early, to prepare for the next heating season, lol. Luckily, we don't really need/have air-conditioning here, so my eyes are a lot less stressed generally during summer.

Usually you'll need to treat the dry eyes first since they can actually alter your glasses prescription if severe.

should be hot, but not too hot that you can't tolerate it. Check it on the back of your hand first. And the preservative free drops are OTC

I took Accutane for Almost a year in my teens for severe acne. Cleared up.that problem, but dried up.everything else. Chronic dry eyes. Tear Gel.and Systane doesn't last long enough. Did the Accutane kill my oil glands? My skin overall less oily after the Accutane
