Great video thanks. Wondering if you can help. I have a gaming PC with 2 monitors, both currently DP rigged. I want to use kvm to bring a work laptop in and use the monitors. Laptop is current model with a HDMI and usb C port. Should i buy the DP+hdmi? Does it have any visual benefits over a HDMI+HDMI switch?
@BuyTesmart
@BuyTesmart 2 года назад
The visual of the DP+HDMI is the same as the HDMI+HDMI. There is no different. If you have gaming PC that has HDMI+DP output, then that model is mad for you. For you laptop, you'll just need a C to DP port like we have here: geni.us/AN69n (Amazon Link)

I have a three monitor set up with two laptops connected to TESmart Dual Monitor 2x2 HDMI. At the moment I can only utilise the two monitors leaving the third redundant My goal is to have the laptop (1) use the three monitors whilst laptop (2) use the third. I'd also like the option to switch between each monitor with laptop. Any thoughts on how to set this up?
@BuyTesmart

You would need a triple monitor KVM to achieve this. TESmart currently does not make a triple monitor KVM.

Hey I have a think pad with a docking station with 2 DP for work. I am looking for a KVM that will support up to 165Hz rate for my main computer (for gaming) I understand I would just buy 2 more display cables and a KVM that also has the mouse, keyboard and headset. The main concern for me is getting one and switching it to my gaming rig after work that it will not support my HIGH hz monitors at 1440p. Please advise
@BuyTesmart
@BuyTesmart 2 года назад
Hi Cory. TESmart KVM's will go up to 144hz because that's the limit for the HDMI outputs (going from the KVM to your monitor). If you have a "Slim Dock" you might be better off with the HKS model. It'll require an additional adapter but we've found they work better Slim Docks, specifically. buytesmart.com/hks212

Hello, thanks for the video. Do you have a product that can be used to switch my audio device to both of my laptops? For example, if two different meetings are going on at the same time on both the laptops, if I switch to the first laptop, I can get into the first meeting, and if I switch to the second laptop, I can get into or listen to the second meeting. Is it a possibility?

The KVM will transmit audio via video connections, you will have to select the audio output on the settings. We don't have a product that meets your needs, we haven't try this ourselves with a KVM environment.

Hi! I have currently a laptop with a thinkpad docking station and a PC gaming, and two monitors. If i understood correctly, i'll need the HDMI - HDMI KVM (my laptop has a hdmi port and the thinkpad has one too, and my pc gaming has two) + a powered usb port (for my keyboard, mic and mouse). Just wanted to check with you before buying. Is it the right material that i need ? And i was wondering, why does the usb hub need to be powered ? Thanks :)
@BuyTesmart
@BuyTesmart 2 года назад
Yea, it sounds like you've got it pretty well figured out! Glad to see that this video helped. You might not need the powered hub though... Most likely you'll be able to plug your K/M into the KVM's dedicated K/M ports and then you'll have 1 standard USB port for your mic. I'd try that first before getting a hub since you can always add that later. The reason for needing a powered hub is that the KVM's standard USB port does not have enough voltage to power multiple devices. If you draw too much power, the KVM starts to act erratic. So you provide power to the hub, which provides the power to any devices plugged into it. Then the KVM only has to worry about data.... not supplying power.

It's hard to say without pulling up the specs for your laptop. What is the make/model of it? If the port has Thunderbolt, which it probably does, then you'll just need an adapter that also has power delivery like this one: buytesmart.com/collections/avico-adapters/products/avico-type-c-to-displayport-with-power-delivery

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad and a Microsoft Surface Go. Do I really need the Surface dock to make things work? It seems like a very expensive set-up to have the Surface Dock and the KVM. Laptop has two USB-C and one HDMI, Surface has one USB-C. So far, I've been using a cheaper unpowered USB-C dock to plug in my dual monitors and Webcam, but it's got terrible lag for keyboard and mouse. When I want to switch, I move it from the USB-C on the ThinkPad to the one on the Surface Go. Hoping to simplify! Thanks for these videos, they've been really helpful!
@BuyTesmart
@BuyTesmart 2 года назад
You can probably use the same USB-C dock for the Surface. The KVM only cares that it gets 2 video signals and 1 data connection. If you have lag with the current dock, it will likely be the same when you use it with the KVM. Those laptops that have very few ports make it a costly endeavor to setup with dual monitor KVM's. There are docks out there cheaper than the Surface Dock though.

We have are not able to test Apple's TB displays in-house. We've had a few customers contact us about Apple's older cinema line but it's not frequent enough to buy one. Also, finding an HDMI to TB adapter (not the other way around) has been a real challenge. You could definitely do dual monitors with those 2 laptops but not sure if you could use the cinema display as one of those monitors.

I'd suggest a Mini DP to HDMI and a Mini DP to DP. Def don't want to go Mini DP to DP and then convert to HDMI. Converting 2x in one signal chain often causes problems. Hi! I bought your 3 monitor kvm switch. I have 2 questions: 1. The kvm cable has 2 ends on both sides: 1 male HDMI and either 1 male usb2 or usb3. Do both ends need to be connected for the KVM switch to work? 2. I have a laptop that only use USB C ports to charge, but i need those ports for HDMI. What can I do in this case?

Your best option is using a docking station, the Triple Monitor KVM needs three video connections from each computer to be able to output all monitors, the use of a docking station with display link capabilities is highly recommended specially if the computer has port limitations.

Hello, I am trying to connect a MacBook Pro (2020) running the latest update, and a work laptop (11th Gen intel i5 with Win 10 enterprise) to two monitors. The first monitor is a DELL P2422H with a DP connection (does have an HDMI slot as well but that does not seem to work) and an Acer R240HY (HDMI). Can you please advise what I need to do this? I purchased the TESmart Dual Monitor KVM Model # HDK0402A1U and I can only get one monitor to work at a time.
@BuyTesmart
@BuyTesmart 2 года назад
Most likely the issue you are having is going from the KVM to the monitor. You are going FROM dp TO hdmi, which is kind of a rare conversion. Here's the adapter that you need: geni.us/IvMbC (Amazon link). But before buying that, you should double check the HDMI port not working on your monitor. That's pretty rare. On the monitor, make sure that you are manually choosing the HDMI input to rule out any auto-switching issues within your monitor itself.

I have a total of 4 monitors at home. They all are mine but I use one for personal such as video games, or side projects outside of work. The other three is mainly for work. I want to continue to use three monitors for work but would like to SHARE two monitors for recreation. Is this possible with your Dual monitor KVM Switch? I believe it should. So during work hours, I would use my three monitors. And then after work, I would like to switch one OR two of the monitors to my personal use so I can use a maximum of three monitors on my personal computer. For further clarity: 4 Monitors & 2 Computers Breakdown what i think this will look like: Monitor 1 (Personal) connected directly into my personal computer. Monitor 2 (Personal and Work) connected to KVM and I want to switch between work and personal computer. Monitor 3 (Personal and Work) connected to KVM and I want to switch between work and personal computer. Monitor 4 (work) connected directly into my work computer. So during work hours I will have monitors 2,3 and 4 connected to my work monitor. After work I will have Monitors 1,2, and 3 connected to my personal computer.

Hello. I’m hoping you can direct me to which one of your products would best fit my needs. If it helps I’m very technical. I have a single PC and two laptops. Each laptop is for a different work client. So there are 3 computers in total. I have 3 monitors. I’m looking for your best switch that will control 3 monitors and 3 computers and share my peripherals. I am looking to be able to run everything in High Def and USB 3. Ideally I’d like the switch to remember the position the computer was in so that when I switch to I don't have to reset all the windows. I hope all this makes some sense. I’ve never purchased one of these switches before and I want to make sure I get the right one. PS This is all work work stuff. No gaming or movie watching.

@BuyTesmart
@BuyTesmart Год назад
That's a rather complicated (but doable) setup. You should go with a quad monitor KVM but you're going to have to make 4 video connections from each PC, so be prepared for that. Usually this only achievable with graphics cards or quad docks. For TESmart products, you would need 2 of these geni.us/hks821 and daisy chain them together with DCCM.

@BuyTesmart
@BuyTesmart 2 года назад
This is a very unique setup. You would only need a single feed from each laptop because each laptop is only going to use 1 external monitor. With a dual monitor KVM, you'll have both screens either dedicated to laptops (1 screen per laptop) or both screens dedicated to the desktop. The tricky part for this type of setup is the mouse & keyboard. A dual monitor KVM will only be able to pass mouse & keyboard to the desktop and 1 laptop. You'll have to daisy-chain a USB switch to get the same mouse & keyboard to the 3rd laptop.

Correct. KVM's are not "ethernet hubs". That would be a separate device. Honestly, you really don't want your KVM to connect to the internet anyways. Better to keep both isolated from each other, which is a common requirement for WFH setups.

Hi. I'm [] close to pulling the trigger on one of your KVM's but I can't find the answer to this question anywhere: Each computer has a Keyboard out and a Mouse out (2 outs x 2 computers = 4 USBs). But every KVM I see only has 1 USB input for both Keyboard and Mouse. How does this work? Is there some kind of technology that combines the Keyboard and Mouse outputs that I am unfamiliar with and no one explains?
@BuyTesmart
@BuyTesmart 2 года назад
Yes. USB can congregate multiple data channels into 1 data signal. So you can have multiple USB inputs (mouse, keyboard, webcam) going into the KVM and it acts like a "usb hub" and then only needs 1 data connection to each PC. Maybe checkout the desktop setup portion of this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EsfzitB9AwA.html We hook up the mouse & keyboard to the desktop so you can see only 1 data connection to the PC is needed.

@BuyTesmart
@BuyTesmart 2 года назад
The other monitor will just stay black. The monitor may show an error message that it is not getting signal and will eventually go to sleep. Since the KVM is not receiving an image, it will not send an image to the monitor.

Can you think of any reason why the media keys stopped working whilst plugged into the keyboard port?

@@BuyTesmart Thanks for that. The manual doesn't mention the scroll lock + scroll lock + F1 changing the hotkey to the Ctrl key. Kk. You only need a 2x1 since you have just 1 monitor. I have a scenario where I have 2 laptops with USB-C ports and I would like to run them to a KVM switch that outputs to 2 HDMI monitors, BUT, I also need the laptops to be on separate physical networks., AND, the laptops do not have ethernet adapters (the ethernet signal runs through the USB-C). I currently have 1 docking station that has the USB-C input and 2 HDMI outputs (as well as the USB-A for the keyboard and mouse) and 1 ethernet output, and when I need to switch from machine to machine, I unplug the USB-C from one laptop and plug it into another, and then I move the network cable coming out of the docking station from port 1 my firewall/switch to port 2 (each of the ports on the firewall/switch are configured to route traffic to different networks; port 1 routes traffic through a secure VPN to my work office and port 2 routes traffic directly out to the internet for personal use). So, not only do I need to KVM switch the Keyboard, Mouse, and Monitors, I also need to switch the ethernet cabling when I move from machine to machine. I have searched for weeks trying to find a switching solution that will do both KVM and Ethernet at the same time with the inputs coming only from USB-C on the laptops. Maybe what I am searching for doesn't exist. Any ideas?
@GJGerson74
@GJGerson74 2 года назад
So really what I am looking for is a KVM with dual USB-C inputs and 2 HDMI outputs, standard keyboard and mouse output, and dual network output (one network output tied to each USB-C input). I have looked and looked and looked, and I don't think such a device exists. If I ever find it, I will have my dream setup where I can switch from work laptop to personal laptop and at the same time switch from secured private network to public home network.
@GJGerson74
@GJGerson74 2 года назад
I "think" the answer might be to have a small USC-C hub for each laptop that accepts USB-C into the hub and outputs HDMI and USB-A which would go to the KVM and also outputs Ethernet which would go directly to the firewall/switch. I bet that is the only way to do this.
@BuyTesmart
@BuyTesmart 2 года назад
Your last reply is the correct course. You will need 2 docking stations and run the video outputs of each to the KVM (and of course a data connection from each for the mouse & keyboard controls). Then you will run separate ethernet cables from your router to each dock so you have internet. To keep the networks separate, within your router you will want to create a subnet assigned to each port and make sure the vlan is set to different IP schemes. The network connection will share the same public IP though. Networking is out of my league so I might be using the wrong terminology but I think you get the gist.
