Could you imagine if Kodak brought back a tungsten-balanced film in 35mm, 120, and even 4x5 or 8x10 lol the film community as a whole would go insane.

I think the only new stocks we will get from Kodak are low hanging fruit. Ektachrome only went away because of a raw materials issue, so it makes sense that it has come back as a new formulation. Gold 120 is here because they must already be making master rolls of Gold they're just cutting it down differently now. I think what we will get next is something that will be easy given their current process, ie. a tweak to a existing stock, or a different size of an existing stock. And I don't think aerochrome will come back any time soon because allegedly kodak use infrared lasers to inspect film during manufacturing, they would need to change the process to make that film which I dont see happening for a long time...

Sorry to say, but I think is absolutely unrealistic to expect kodak release anything in the future, unless something they can just repack, rebrand under a different name and put on the shop shelf. With Kodak Alaris for sale, as reported a few weeks ago, if they can just keep the production of the existing color films and Tmax line, that will be already a massive effort. Yes I know know Alaris is the distributor and Eastman the producer, BUT Alaris apparently also have the patents for everything other than Ektachrome and TriX (they are also motion picture films). Also, if they do bring this films back, how much are we gonna have to pay for the roll considering their price policy lately? 30€ a roll? Rather than expect Kodak doing something unlikely, I wish Fuji to get back in production and break this kodak monopoly on C41 that they have at the moment. New films would be nice, but for now, just being able to afford a roll of color film would be good enough.

And huge kudos for the shout out for my all time go to monochrome, Plus-X. I probably shot a mile or 2 of the stuff... My got, the stuff you could do. Add to this - I was a dental x rat tech, and the chemistry to develop radiograph film also worked for +x. If they ever brought it back, I'd go out and get a GOOD monochrome camera... yeah, I loved that stuff.

On my Kodak wish list: Elitechrome in 135 and 120. Kodak Vision films sold directly through Kodak in 135 and 120. There are more and more labs popping up that do ECN2.

Your thoughts on Kodachrome got me thinking about the “return” of Technicolor in the late 1990s. The company brought it back and made a few films, ‘Saving Private Ryan’ and the first ‘Toy Story’ among them, before the process was cancelled again. In fact, they never brought back the full Technicolor system, which had been abandoned for good reasons back in the early 1950s. The company’s film stock was completely dead at that point, but Technicolor was able to adapt their unique imbibition printing process to Eastmancolor film stock, with beautiful results that were not possible with any other process. This new Technicolor process lasted until the 1970s, and as I said was brought back decades later, for a short time. If Kodachrome ever does come back, I think it will be something like that. Kodak might find a way to process an existing stock differently and produce Kodachrome-like results.

I personally think their color negative stock selection is good but need to offer them in more formats. Like make affordable color film in large format like Gold, Color plus, ultramax, pro-image. Bring back Ultramax 800 instead of exclusively selling it in disposable cameras. As for black and white film I could only see Plus-X or Panatomic-X returning as slow speed non-tmax grain films. A new completely original emulsion for slide film would be great but would probably be the least likely out of all the options.

adressing the thumbnail: kodak can't bring back aerochrome without building a new production line or significantly altering the existing one since they use infrared sensors in the production line everywhere

For me I'd like to see the High Definition 400/200 (even if the name changes), Ultramax 800/Versatility+ 800, Ektapress 100-1000, Portra 100T, and any C41 B&W film stock.

I would give "extra Tom Brady's" to Kodak bringing higher speed Ektachromes to the line up. A 400 speed would be very nice since it seems to be the Standard "default" anymore. And also, you can do more with it as well....

Definitely could see a few of these on the horizon! I wouldn’t mind seeing Pro Image 100 being out as well, that’s a great film stock that is hard to find. Top pick for me would definitely be Aerochrome…been trying to find a late run (2000’s expiration) to shoot at a reasonable price. I had a 1980 exp box recently with some film I bought, but sold that as I didn’t want to gamble that old of slide film…fingers crossed!

I wonder if EK will figure out a non toxic and reasonably priced reform of Kodachrome 25 and 64... I cut my color teeth on the stuff, really DID love the color profile, and some of my old stock from the 1970's look like new... Hell, I have a couple shot in the 1940's gifted to me that you'd never know were from almost a century ago.

Not just the Tungsten-based color film, they should sell Eastman-XX in 35mm format as well instead of selling it, also, to Cinestill who repackages it and sells it as BwXX. It's one of my favorite B&W film stocks.
@xander1052
@xander1052 Год назад
I think Kodak should make a Portra 400T for the tungsten balanced option. Good ISO range for shooting under tungsten colour temp light, would likely be very close in formulation to 500T. Personally I'd like to see Kodacolor 1000 and Ektachrome 400, maybe Panatomic-X, gotta love an ISO 32 B&W stock.

Kodak could re-create Kodachrome and call it "ColorChrome 64" using E-6 process. But they MUST bring it back in 120 as well. Yeah I know...."Dream on....Dream on...." Great wish list though.... Kodak are you listening???

I doubt any new stocks are on the horizon. We can probably forget Kodachrome, Aerochrome and many of the old color variations like Portra NC and VC. There was a time when I was a young photographer in the late 80’s and 90’s, one could find a film for almost any scenario. Everything from Kodak budget consumer grade to professional films for exacting shoots.

I have been shooting film since 1969. Back in the 1970s I used to shoot a Kodak Color Infrared Film. Later in life I shot High Speed Ektachrome Infrared known as HIE I think that was in the 1980s. I think Aerochrome was their aerial infrared film. It was the last Color infrared film to be canceled in 2009. If Kodak brought Infrared color back again I think you would also see more sales of used film cameras and more sales of E-6 kits. IN THE WORLD OF PHOTOGRAPHY I BELIEVE ONE ANSEL ADAMS HAS MORE POWER THAN FIVE TOM BRADYS.
@batuhancokmar7330
@batuhancokmar7330 Год назад
I think they should first invest their money and R&D on ramping up the production and cutting down costs of their existing products. In the last 2 years, every single film shooter I know in person has moved to b&w because its cheaper and/or reduced the amount of shots they take. Or left film photography completely. I love ektar100 or portra160/400, but I just don't shoot them unless its a special occassion. If we start chosing film stocks not based on taste but based on price, this debate would be less than moot.
