I see it as four groups: 1-2: "dawn era" the kind of games they have pre-booted into hospital screens or as Easter eggs in certain apps. 3-4 "2d era" classic arcade style and adventure games from this era. When games first got actually fun and interesting. 5-7 "3d era" 3d games with a lot of depth and creativity, especially around 2004-2012 with so much unique things coming out like Spiderman 2, Skate, and Minecraft. (Yup) 8-9 "corporate era" when games got stale and loot boxes became a thing. GRAPHICS-wise, though, it really depends... Zero Tolerance and Beneath A Steel Sky are two games from the same year, one of them looks like dogshit on anything *but* a CRT, and the other is hand-drawn backgrounds that look good on anything.

The Wii is the exception to this rule. It’s essentially a 6th gen console hardware-wise and looks better on a CRT.

@@HydraSpectre1138 The Wii was like a GameCube with a new interface, and the WiiU was like a non-portable Switch. Nintendo has long since given up on graphics, which is smart because they'll never put a dent in Microsoft and Sony through a graphics war.

@@HydraSpectre1138 Except, that most Wii games were (re)designed with anamorphic wide-screen in mind, some Wii games are even wide-screen only. Whereas most Gamecube games were designed for 4:3 and don't support wide-screen.

I got a 40 inch trinitron with the stand (KV-40XBR700) on offer up for $40. Looks beautiful, however once we got it home my wife and I couldn't get it back on the stand ( 300lbs +). I had to order a block and tackle from Amazon and hoist it up onto the stand...... Looks beautiful though.

Exept that most are only 480i because i got a 480i widescreen sony trinitron i am actualy kind of sad that it is 16:9 and not 4:3 because if i play retro games on the wii like some snes games they have ugly bars

Oh come on they're definitely a hassle when you try to pick them up they're heavy and your heart will be pounding not to drop it I recently just picked up and Mitsubishi 2040u very similar to a 2070 when I brought it home from driving 2 hours two and back I felt like life would end if I dropped it it turned on I had to do some calibration though it was a bit blurry so I just had to change the x and y resolutions and then I also change the voltage which might I say if you do this do not and I repeat do not use a standard screwdriver when you go to adjust the three little screws on the left side on the back of the CRT there's a very high chance you can short out the whole thing and kill it just go down to your hardware store pick up a wooden rod snap it or cut it to the size you want like a screwdriver and use an exacto knife and shave it in the shape of a Philips head like you're making a spear or just go out and buy a plastic screwdriver just no metal

Yeah, it's hard to see the point of a CRT if you're not excited to play games on it haha

I can also relate, but there’s loophole - if the CRT is 13” or less, it passes my wife’s home appliance inspection.

My wife love our Retro Game Room. She enjoy my 10 Crts.😂😂😂 From 13" all the way to 36".

Agreed I have an Emerson tv that's has an component outputs as well video cables it really feels nice being able to actually play RE2 on the n64

I played mario on a HDTV bc I was going somewhere for the weekend and my little crt tv broke but I had a small HDTV that I use for my ps4 when I go somewhere and so I played mario on it nes btw and I could feel the input lag but I adjusted to it and I was speed running it so yk how that go but yeah it wasn't to bad but it was bad so I'm looking for another small crt tv

@@albertofernandez9804 Definitely CRT :). LCD is not bad but CRT is so rich. My coworkers think I’m nuts when I dig one out of the trash.

I remember playing COD on the 360 with a CRT before I had an HDTV, though, and reading the text and symbols on that particular TV sucked. I'd make sure that if you're going to be playing games - not just later-gen games - on a CRT, that you have a decent one. That particular TV was around $200 and from the tail end of when CRTs were popular. The difference blew me away when I finally scored a decent one from a relative.

Wii u also has av out same port as the wii

For hd 7th gen (ps3, x360) You should really use component cables though.

I got rid of mine too and an ossc no problem with them they are great but constantly having to mess with settings got on my nerves. I’m picking up a CRT soon

Ps2 looks ugly as sin on HD. I even prefer Xbox og on crt. These consoles look beautiful on a crt, even better if the cry can do 480p, which my previous 4:3 crt could and it looked glorious.

@@ajsingh4545 the ps2 looks good on HD tv when I got component cables the one with the green and blue wires but with the included composite cable it looked horrible

I have an HDCRT.... Best ever!!! It may not be as sharp as an LCD or a PVM but damnit... It looks good and I don't have to constantly switch! :)

That's what I do basically, mine is a 27' Emerson from 2005 with a flat picture tube, has S video in the rear and composite in front, I keep a DVD player hooked up to the S video port at all times and use the composite output for whatever system I want to play.

yes, i use my wii on my old crt tv always and is way better than an lcd tv...that consoles are made for that tv's...same with the old ones like snes or nes.

I have my PS2 hooked up to a CRT TV, it was hooked up to a 720 and the screen was stretched and then I got a HDMI converter where I plugged in the RCA jacks and it still look messed up, so I went and bought a CRT at the local thrift store and I tested it out and the colors look good on it so I bought it and took it home, it works great for my PS2 games it's a 480i tv

@gameofyou1 so for ps2 original xbox and wii do you think there is a benefit with crt or is it ok to use for HDTV for best experience

@HoloKola on a 4:3/"square screen" display/screen/monitor/tv including crt types... though even crt types of widescreen exist.

@HoloKola interestingly enough they even exist (crt/tv at least in us/north america tv] even exist with a dvi port and some with an hdmi or even 2 hdmi ports at the hd 2004 and later/newer models)

Sony FD Trinitron/WEGA KV-13FS100 - It has 2 inputs for Composite Video and 1 for YPbPr Component Video. It does not have S-Video. Sorry for the late response. I just got back to it.

Haha a 32" CRT is whole 'nother ball game! Those are BEASTS. It helps to have somewhere to keep them where they're more concealed. Or get rid of one if you add another.

I think that would probably be a huge undertaking to implement that kind of technology, and there just wouldn't be enough demand for it on a grand scale (even as large as the retro gaming community has become).

@@RetroBirdGaming i don't know men, it's been a while that tv's a getting everytime much more powerful, for something that is avaiable inside a raspberry pie, a nes classic and stuff of the like, it really seems plausible, i mean, we are talking about those new tv's that are implementing Ai upscaling and stuff, what i ask should not be as difficult in those types of tv's

Sounds like you use some of the better HDMI solutions.

Any crt that supports 480p also has input lag. So maybe you can make yourself feel a little better knowing that one would of had lag. The crts that max out at 480i don't have any lag

Yes I use a HD CRT for PS3 and OG Xbox. And SD CRT for anything up to 6th Gen

Because of the fact that many 6th generation games support 480p, 720p, 1080i, and/or widescreen, I'd still advise the use of an HD CRT for those consoles.

@@masquedwarrior1627 yes for real on my Philips hd crt ps3 looks amazing via hdmi also due to the fact that those games render at lower res than 720p internally like gta iv in that regard crt helps

​@@masquedwarrior1627 I agree an HD CRT would be best for those reasons, but I think an SD CRT isn't too far behind for 6th gen (plus Wii) since by far 480i and 480p are the most common resolutions for most games on these consoles, while 720p and 1080i games are extremely rare overall (only the Xbox has a decent handful, but it's truly only a handful). Which is completely the opposite of 7th gen where an SD CRT is WAYYY behind a widescreen HD CRT thanks to the vast majority of games being widescreen 720p (and at least 480p).
