As always excellent information and insight. I agree that the amount of delay choices that we have in the Helix is awesome but at the same time it can be overwhelming. Thanks Jason for clarifying the differences. Happy Memorial Day!
Very interesting. My faves are the simple delay and the vintage digital but that ducked delay is fascinating, lots of creative possibilities. Have buggered around with it a little bit in the past and never really understood it, so thanks for this. I will be experimenting!
This is great. My favorite is also the Tape Delay. That said I've discovered that the Heliosphere can take the place of both a delay and reverb which is great to use on the HX Stomp to save DSP.
Very useful as always. With so many options in Helix, it's easy to be overwhelmed by the choices. I sometimes wish that Effect Categories had Subcategories, where similar type effects, etc. were already grouped. An example would be a group of the Digital Delays, and a separate group of Analog Delays. It would make auditioning a Delay type, as I know the basic differences in them, but don't know what all of them are by name. Thanks
Jason, have you done these types of videos but for sounds with a high drive and/or a distortion pedal. I have noticed that delay, modulation, and reverb effects can be very challenging. For example, I have a really hard time with flange and phase effects. The effect is never as loud as I would like them to be. Thanks in advance!
I love tape delay, but I feel the transistor tape in the helix does not modulate enough, so I end up using either the elephant man or DSP permitting I will do a parallel path and put a retro reel before the transistor tape to modulate only the delay signal, it works 100%
Analog reverb and digital reverb are not true delay on the LT. My old Vox tonelab SE has true analog/digital delay and the delay sounds exactly like the note I play. I have yet to mimic these sounds on my Helix LT
Do you have any tutorials on how to change presets/banks while performing, and then selecting snapshots within a preset you've just selected...? Is this even possible...? I find when I go into snapshot mode, I'm stuck in that preset, and can't get out of it... I can select any snapshot I'd like within that preset, but I can't go to any other preset... and conversely, if I'm in preset mode, I can switch from one preset to another, but I can't access the snapshots within that preset... is it possible to switch to different presets, and be able to access their snapshots as well while performing...? Is there a way this can be done...? Is there a video somewhere on how to do this...? Thx...
I only use the simple delay - I set it at 400 ms, 25% on the mix and feedback. I never use anything else. But this video is very interesting and I will definitely explore some of the other delays in my HX stomp.
