Testing Shrink Art Plastic with all my art supplies Sponsor: The first 1,000 people to use this link will get a 1 month free trial of Skillshare: skl.sh/nerdecr... . I know Moriah Elizabeth has done Shrink plastic pins and I watched that video a long time ago and didn't want to remind myself which markers she used (rewatching after this video I realize it's also Posca).

To anyone who thinks they can’t draw-Sika I’m looking you lol-drawing is a learned skill. When I started art school I couldn’t draw and one of my professors sat me down and had a serious but very encouraging talk about want to be an artist vs working to be an artist. He said I needed to practice a lot more so I asked for extra work and he gave me a list of exercises and ideas and I drew my heart out. At the end of the semester he asked me to come talk to him after class, I was terrified. He made me take out my first and last assignment of the semester and look at the difference. We were both in shock at how much I had improved. I’m not saying I can draw anything and everything, but I’m pretty damn good at what I do. And if I can do it, you can too. And thank you both for bringing me back to my childhood and remembering days of shrinky dinks! So much fun!!! Love you both to pieces!
@katelillo1932
@katelillo1932 3 года назад
This is so true! I think a lot of people believe drawing ability is something you’re born with but it doesn’t have to be! I decided I wanted to teach myself to draw in my late twenties. You can learn to draw at any age if you want to, and you shouldn’t be afraid to practice and make things you don’t love - not every drawing has to be perfect and even the “bad” ones teach you what techniques you like or don’t 👍
@DangerWifeDodd
@DangerWifeDodd 3 года назад
@@katelillo1932 exactly! When I started school I could paint really well but I couldn’t draw anything. Other students could draw perfectly but had no idea what to do with paint. By the time we all graduated we were all pretty damn good

Copics are a transparent medium, so it being pretty transparent on the plastic doesn't surprise me much (tosca and colored pencils are opaque). Also, the effect that happened with the copics was probably due to a reaction to the film or coating they use on the plastic

Sakura glitter pens are amazing on shrink plastic, I love it, you just have to remember to give it time to go back to its original size... made embellishments, key chains all sorts You can also use a craft heat gun to shrinkage plastic, and to make sure its flat, just use the bottom of a glass to flatten it. Remember the plastic is returning to its original size, during manufacture its stretched into thin sheets. Great video as always jackie. Hope you are mending well and managing some crafting, sending much love x

The glitter condenses, and because it's superfine in the pens the results are amazing. I found the darker colours gave the best results and we're opaque! If you can get white shrink plastic the colours are better. Also use an alcohol ink pad and use rubber stamps, great for jewellery, card and sculpting embellishments

I love making magnets out of shrink plastic. From my personal experience, the prismacolor pencils are definitely the best. The posca markers are good as well, but if you’re covering a large area they tend to get streaky and the vibrant coverage is lost. They also have a bad habit of flaking off when you’re trying to add a top coat to seal the project. These are all adorable though. You’re making me want to craft more again.

I work in a childcare center and for Father's Day we made keychains with the babies footprints. When I had baked them some of the paint (I used acrylic) chipped off but after I sealed it with glossy Mod Podge it was fine

You can also buy plastic #6 at the dollar store ( usually a lid that goes on a disposable casserole dish) and you can shrink that in the oven. I made keychains with it and super cheap

Shrink art is really fun! 😍 The best part is watching it in the oven!! 😂 But I hear you about the oven needing cleaning. Impossible to do with a bad back! I do like the sheer quality of the sharpie because it would make a great window decoration!! 👍

The package seems like a pretty good deal since they actually do include everything you need (including a hole punch which really surprises me). I used to love shrink sheets when I was a kid.

OMG, I literally when out to buy Shrinky Dink Paper to make some crafts and now I see this. And yes, Shrink Dinks were popular in the mid 2000's but that died out quickly, but I had a blast with them anyway. I also heard that acrylic paint work well on them too, but I've yet to try it.

I use sharpies for out lines and prismacolors for the color but before i color on the plastic i sand the sheet so it will pick up the color better. i used to not sand it and then when i started to i never looked back. sanding the plastic first really makes a difference

We did these in my high school art class! We used colored pencils which seems like its probably the most common option since that’s what the kit comes with.

Love "Shrinky Dinks" as they were called when I was a kid. Used to make my own figures and would glue them on stands i even made. Would even make dolls and then make paper clothes for them. Since normal paper dolls don't stand up strong. Would make entire herds of horses and packs of dogs, then entire zoos tracing every animal i could find in the national geographic magazines. Plus trees, stables, people. I had thousands of creatures and people, fences. My entire zoo fit in a metal lunch box.

Back in the 70's my teacher had us use the plastic lids from coffee, it shrank the same way. Love Shrinkiedinks too. I've used it to make tiny charms. Made Dream, Death and Delirium jewelry out of it too.

I enjoy making little pins and keychains with shrink plastic. A small suggestion is that doming the finished piece with resin helps prevent the paint from chipping off. Lastly, I hope your recovery is going well!

I love shrink plastic, ever since I was a kid I'd make charms and pendants for jewelry and accessories. I actually plan on using shrink plastic to make dragons and fantasy creatures for a children's mobile
