Both games are incredible and have their own pros and cons, but what's your take?
@AngryAlfonse

I much prefer the gameplay, building, exploration, and visual style of Valheim... but Valheim is shooting itself in the foot with their INCREDIBLY SLOW DRIBBLE of content. Enshrouded released with enough content to be on par, if not surpass *current* Valheim which is now like 3 years old. There's so little content in Valheim that I haven't been able to get any friends to play in like 2 years, even for the Mistlands update. I mean, Valheim has already sold the majority of the copies it will ever sell, so maybe they aren't shooting themselves in the foot -- they can be as slow as they want. But man, it just feels like it has so much potential that it just isn't meeting.

Yeah I agree. Irongate devs took a 2 month long vacation while their game was still in early access to celebrate the sales success. While I do encourage a healthy work life balance, two months for an entire studio vacation is a bit outlandish and laggy to development schedule. Enshrouded has put in more content post EA release than valheim had up until ashlands with 1/8th the time frame. There's always time to celebrate AFTER your project is finished

If they allowed rotating off the world grid, that would essentially mean that they need to support having multiple grids, which might be a big architectural change in their code base that would introduce added complexity, and they'd have to figure out how to handle the overlaps and connection points of building grids with the world grid. Currently the latter seems quite easy to handle: you have either terrain material or building material (or nothing) at any given grid position, and building/terrain always meets in a highly predictable fashion that can be programmed to look nice. That's what I speculate at least. But I'd also love the option to rotate buildings. Once I wanted to build a house on a hill side... Only to realize I can't.

Its actually voxel based, so it's a lot like Dual Univers in that sense but with lest robust in terms of the manipulation of individual voxels. But DU is a good indicator of what is possible. I have noticed some issues with angles in terms of having the ability to create angled arches. I think they need more snapping points, and better angle detection.

The ultimate survival game? Dethrone Valheim? That's asumming Valheim is the "ultimate survival game", which can be highly debatable. There are a lot of really good survival games out there that give great experiences that are very different from both Valheim and Enshrouded. I would also say that the experience between Valheim and Enshrouded are pretty different. I don't think that a comparison is really necessary or that any survival game sits on some imaginary throne. They all have something interesting to offer.

Enshrouded is not a survival game and Valheim isn't strictly in the category either. Both are great games as they are.

Valheim is more of a sandbox rpg and enshrouded is an action rpg with sandbox characteristics but not ultimately customizable. While they are cousin games, enshrouded is so much more polished than valheim is in noticeably/embarrassingly less time. Iron gate needs to hit the nitrous on their project

I bought Valheim but to be completely honest I never liked it and never managed to really get into it. It felt crude and rough around the edges. But I love Enshrouded so far; it already feels like a much more well-rounded experience, and the feel of the game world + the building system is amazing. I hope they'll keep developing it for a long time, because it's obvious that it could become a huge hit that draws in players for years to come.

I love both games. They are different from eachother. The enshrouded multiplayer experience was a surprise with the progression being world based but we adjusted. It sounds like there will be options for people in the future so you can make the choice. My concern right now is we all want to build bases. With the 8 altar limit and still wanting to explore this isn't possible. We are waiting for the next zones and building is what we have left to do 😢
@ravensblade
@ravensblade 3 месяца назад
Base raids would be a waste of time for enshrouded. I would leave it for modders. Why? The same reason why many games with base raids suffer from boring killboxes and exploiting physics as main defense force. Valheim was designed with base raids in mind. There is structure system to allow destruction and actual attacking of the base by enemies. And you can't just make base floating in the sky. Then there is need for water for transport so building hill fort is not that easy. And it still resulted in most players exploiting fact that terrain can't be destroyed to make indestructible walls. In Enshrouded it's even easier. Because the build system don't have physics most people would just build in the sky or if standard block would be easy to destroy there would be huge rock and earth walls. Digging trenches is even easier. And you can skip walkable entries as you don't need to think about being able to enter your fort with boat or cart. The game is not designed with base raids in mind. AI of enemies is not even close to being able to travel inside player designed labyrinth with grappling hooks. Ps. Personally i never seen appeal of base raids in Valheim. For solo player they were just annoyance, not challenge. It may be fine if you can trigger it when you want, but not when you have to stop every few minutes when building roof to fight random enemies with inventory full of building materials.

I think you brought up a lot of great points about Enshrouded and the current state of the game. It will be interesting to see where they go with it and what they change along the way. While the building system is extensive it also adds nothing in terms of gameplay mechanics. This is one place where I think Valheim has been above all the rest as you have to account for smoke and stability making it somewhat of a game within the game. Enshrouded certainly has a lot going for it, but I'm not sure it will have that spend a hundred+ hours and keep coming back to it to do it again that has made Valheim my favorite.

I think it is intentionally a different experience, appealing to another type of player. I realy liked Valheim at first but stopped playing because it stressed me out more that it relaxed me, especially because of the base raiding and all your gear being left in a dangerous spot when you die when exploring new areas. Enshrouded feels a lot more laid back and relaxing and I love that. I love that I can choose between exploring and looking for danger when I want to, or staying close to my base, building or collecting resources in a relatively peaceful environment, depending on my mood. I really hope they don't give in to the people saying it needs to be harder, or at least keep it optional. There's plenty of games that make survival hard because of mobs coming for you all the time, there's not so many games that allow you to just relax in the world they create. In that way I think Enshrouded compares more to Subnautica than Valheim.
@goblingoddessgaming608
@goblingoddessgaming608 2 месяца назад
I actually almost gave up on Subnautica at first because I kept dying in the beginning. It was my first survival game. Later survival became much easier but the constant need to drink and eat remained an annoyance, especially when I was working on my bases. Had to stop doing what I was doing to get more water. I LOVE Enshrouded, love that it's so relaxed in terms of survival. I can spend hours just building my base and it's such a relaxing experience. Subnautica is a vastly more engaging experience because of the unique setting and atmosphere. One of the best games I ever played. But Enshrouded has me addicted like crazy to unlocking more things to build bases. I'm a passionate base builder and this game has maybe the best sandbox base building tools I have ever come across. The stuff I've seen people build is just mind bogglingly beautiful. I have not played Valheim yet. I had a no Early Access games rule I broke for Enshrouded for the first time. This game doesn't even feel like it's unfinished. I haven't gotten far yet, I started playing last weekend. But the map is so HUGE and there's two much to unlock I find exploration really rewarding. I will spend 100h easy just discovering the whole map. And I like the style much better than the pixelated Valheim graphics.

My fast moving friends have already blown through the story line to the point our dedicated server and are moving on to something else until more content is released but I am taking my time in my own game and inviting my slower moving friends in to help ..Do love the game so far.

Enshrouded has better: Building. You can edit the entire world block by block, and it makes the building entirely better than valheim. Exploration. The world feels more wild, and more dangerous than valheims does for the most part. Valheim at time feels empty and overly dangerous in other areas and enshrouded has the perfect mixture of both. Combat: I really like fromsoft games combat and enshrouded nailed it perfectly with the tactical standpoint. Valheims feels kind of boring after 10-20 hours. Replayability: while I feel valheim pulls ahead because of random seed generation, the skull tree paths of enshrouded almost negate that. You can play almost any way you can think up while you are limited in valheim. Customizable goes to valheim for obvious reasons. Game difficulty is the same in enshrouded throughout all games, valheims makes it anywhere from peaceful to dark souls annoying at anybody's pace. Stability of software. This is a draw because I have 780 hours into valheim between multiple playthroughs and have never had a bug, glitch, or crash. At the same time the game could be run on something with windows xp. Enshrouded multiplies the framerate, pixel capture, and pixel output, and runs just as stable on most machines with zero crashes. It's a beautiful looking game, but plays smooth. Valheim was a stepping stone and again, has its bonuses, but enshrouded definetly sits a tier or two above it.
@Pimpemon
@Pimpemon 2 месяца назад
Are they really apt for comparison though? Enshrouded feels more like Zelda and Minecraft with some Valheim sprinkled on top. Also neither game is really "survival" since they don't have the thirst/hunger type mechanics which is really what actual make the game "survival". You can survive while being afk forever.

i had alot of fun with it, but once i done all the missions and got to max lvl and gear i saw nothing to do (about 30+ hours) other than hoping to find better quality gear which felt pointless. game needs more replayable content other than building to hold other people, atm its basically basic game but expert building systems. AKA better for builders game, i would love a raid system but i think they should make it more like green hells new raid mechanic, trigger it manually and get rewards ect. as many i have spoke to like enshrouded more than valheim because it does not have raids. i hope server owners will be able to expand or remove the alter radius soon though

Seems worth the $20-30 for entertainment value. I like the build system but not as much due to altar restrictions and area resets, and static vs procedural world. The quests tied to save is annoying for sure. I also don't like that you can't permanently clear enshrouded areas. The skill tree seems overly complex, reminescent of Elder Scrolls or something. It'd be fun to explore exploits. LGIO's technique to build up high in the sky then glide everywhere might be viable. If you can teleport up, then there's no need for stairs. If you die and spawn, just grab a glider from storage and go, right? Have 4-6 floating fortresses and 1 ground base and 1 mobile popup hub for exploration, or something. Idk. A stability system, or rudimentary ground connectivity constraints, might prevent build cheese.

I like both enshrouded and valheim, but they aren't the same genre. Enshrouded is very linear and has no survival elements.. not really open world and the only danger is combat in the same way as any level based rpg. It isn't even necessary to interact with any of the building or farming beyond putting down npcs and storage in a building you find...i live in the blue goblet inn and build my class in the same way i would an arpg.

Implying that Valheim sits at the top of survival games is just.... dumb. Don't get me wrong, the building and ascetics are great but that content? What it actually IS? It's just not good. I'm always happy when people enjoy games but to make a bold claim like that is just funny to me. Enshrouded needs about another year at least in the oven till it has enough polish to really function, so I don't know about making any comparisons at this stage being wise. Though, if you were gonna compare it to a game I suppose the unfinished mess that is Valheim would be the most sensible since they both feel like very early beta builds, we'll just ignore the fact Valheim has had years of development as well as ignore the fact that the devs took the money and ran. Honestly I'd recommend No Man's Sky over both of these games but that's just me. Enjoy what you like, even if what ya like is mid.

@@TotalXclipse "I think every persons view is subjective based on their own likes" You hit the nail on the head, I dog on games but so long as someone is enjoying them there really is no harm in it. People like what they like and that's fine. "Enshrouded definitely needs time to be completed, but I think as it stands, it's a firm foundation to be something great" I agree, even in it's very rough state it shows quite a bit of promise. However, I've seen many games in early access develop in ways that turn the gameplay loop into something that wholly disinterests me or flat out abandon their projects so I tend to take the wait and see approach. I do hope it stays on track because for the hundred or so hours I've sunk into it it's been fun. "I'm keeping a very keen eye out for Light No Fire." Never heard of it but I'll give it a looksie. Aside from my total lack of interest in Velheim we share quite a few tastes in games, or at least the games you play here on your channel. I know I come off a bit gruff but I do genuinely enjoy your videos and your cheerful personality, keep up the excellent work mate. Edit:Oh, light no fire is the new game by Hello Games lmao. Your base never gets attacked, the mobs are far and few between, there's glitches everywhere, objects in the distance are graphical blobs and there's no sense of danger. You can easily escape any mob and its just an empty world. I keep trying to play it but when you've played Valheim for 100's of hours it's just boring and empty.
